In Control, if you speak to Dylan while he is in his cage, one time, exactly the same conversation appears that comes up here: "I'd like to tell you about a dream I had" - and he starts to describe a story in the AW "universe" in Bright Falls. I'm not exactly remembering what is the exact story, but I have the feeling it is this one that you've just played. Also, the cop in this is 1:1 Quantum Break protagonist lookalike ;)

Interesting note regarding the math problem - you didn't need the math if you manage to read between the lines: "500 is the number of light years between Earth and Planet X-13" is a subtle nod to "X-13=? where X=500". So "500-13=487", easy. That's the genius of it - you can solve the longer math, brute force the prime numbers or just catch subtle details. You'll still get the result regardless of your mind type.
So, all of these episodes are failed attempts by Alan to escape the Dark Place. If you notice, Alan always appears at the end of the episode. In this case, Alan wrote himself to be Jesse's brother so that she would come to rescue him from the Dark Place. The reason it didn't work is because not everything that Alan writes in the Dark Place becomes true in the real world; only certain aspects of the story can become reality. These aspects are what we call "Overlaps," like the ones Saga uses to cross over to the Dark Place in the base game. So Alan writing himself as Jesse's brother would be a gigantic reality alteration and thus didn't translate to the real world. But remember, everything that Alan wrote in the Dark Place does affect reality in some way, even if the story doesn't happen 1:1 in the real world. So a similar event to what is depicted in this episode did happen in the real world but with significant differences. I theorize that this happened before Jesse found The Oldest House, but it could also be the events of Control.
