This is a classic piece of history. You may say it is amateurish but it shows the time, the order of shutdown and what was being shown.. can't ask more than that. There won't be many (if any) other people who documented this so accurately. Brilliant.

I remember this. I stayed up all night waiting for BBC to go off. Since my TV could only tune to analogue for some reason, it was quite sad to see them go.
I had hoped to do something like this as well, but we just threw out a lot of our old analog-only CRT sets the week before. I wasn't going to heft around the huge plasma TVs just for this... so I made do with recording the switch off on two VCRs and two DVD recorders :)
Ali G indahouse movie was playing on the top left hand side TV. It looks like they were waiting for the 2 African men to stop kissing before flicking off the switch.
I went digital in 2006, so I never noticed the switchoff. Plus, I threw my analogue indoor ariel away the same year in 2006. Still sad to watch this, though.
I really want analog signals to be used again, but quote unquote digital is better. Would you rather see snowy images, or an ugly pixelation mess and super choppy audio?
I would much rather analogue to return. Digital was a mistake. I think it could be possible for analogue to return, after all, ALL TVs can use analogue. As you said, i’d much rather a snowy picture over a mess of pixels with glitches of sound. I still currently have three analogue TVs and i never plan on going fully digital. I wish a petition was started to bring analogue back. I’d sign, and I think quite a few more people would. We miss you, analogue.
But is it really? We're not talking about the shows though, we're talking about the actual broadcast format. I personally think analogue is still better than digital. I've literally just come back from Turkey, and the TV in my hotel room was analogue. It had a great picture (HD) and the only problem I had was when there was poor signal I got some snowy displays and perhaps some background noise with the sound. Digital would've shown me a array of coloured blocks and audio that only played snippets of words. Analogue wins.
No i was busy in the middle of watching that on bbc 1 damn good old analogue tv i was already on digital freeview in 2007 anyway i was watching aload of my tv shows on cbbc in analog anyway ashame we had to put the antenna in a good direction in the room to get a clear picture
What was the onscreen message superimposed on 3, 4 and 5? Presumably that was injected at the Transmitter? It looked like exactly the same slide on all 3 channels.

Damn it's almost 11 years and we all still watching all the analog channels going to shutdown
A sad day for me a collector of pocket TVs. This is a historic gem of a video.

Why do i keep watching digital switchovers...
Because you are... interested in them.
@@Boys-AllTheStuffAndMore we will all come back to see it again someday, like right now
You might just possibly be a nerd
Me too.

Imagine that Analogue Switch Off thing would happen in my country next year because they plan to switch off the Analogue next year
Thanks for this upload
Typical Channel 4 showing artsy niche-audience programming like the static from the Big Bang
Be sure to archive and preserve this video because this only happens once in a lifetime.

BBC One: Digital TV is coming
Channel 5: KEEP. IT. REAL.

I Was About 4 Years Of Age,Nearly 5 When This Switchover Took Place.

@@19seventy97 Okay, but Digital is still better than Analogue. The only problem is that stupid creators come in and make crappy shows.

@@19seventy97 Those coloured blocks are only on SD. Analogue quality is better thab SD digital quality, but HD is still the best.
Ive seen coloured blocks on HD when there’s not as strong a signal.
Why didn't BBC1 show the "analogue TV is about to switch off" overlay thing like the other channels did?
Better picture than we've had on Freeview for last two weeks, f**k all for 3 days 😡 progress eh
BBC 1 (Channel 44, 655.25 MHz)
BBC 2 (Channel 51, 711.25 MHz)
ITV (Channel 47, 679.25 MHz, after BBC 2 shutdown: Channel 51, 711.25)
Channel 4 (Channel 41, 631.25 MHz)
Channel 5 (Channel 37, 599.25 MHz)
I got confused when I saw Ali g on Channel 5 - I thought he was associated with Channel 4?
It's the Ali G movie, not his show
Anders Björn oh ok
