A disaster of unimaginable magnitude has occurred. Rescue operations are on in full swing. What is required is to support the herculean effort made by the army, NDRF and the volunteers to alleviate the suffering of the survivors. The Kerala government failed to acknowledge the warnings given a week in advance. Their poor response directly led to many casualties. Had they acted on the central government's advice, these losses could have been prevented. There is no point in crying now. The Chief Minister should resign for not taking action despite being warned. What is the use of continuous funding when they neither recognize the risks nor evacuate people from environmentally sensitive areas? Why does the government allow people to stay and construct houses in areas with a high risk of landslides? The Wayanad MP, who is also the Leader of the Opposition, should be held responsible as well. He hasn't spoken a word about the climate in any of his speeches in Parliament, focusing only on Ambani and Adani.

The national media has mostly ignored such a huge catastrophe just because it has taken place in the deep south. If it was somewhere in the North, the TV channels would have had a 24x7 coverage of the incident. This stepmotherly treatment could have disastrous consequences in future.

The problem of such landslides has not been solved by any political party and cannot be either. It is entirely thecredponsibility of scientists, meterologists geologists civil engineers to design solutions for both short : long term solutions. Let the institutes report how many students researchers engineers have studied or written papers on this subject .
