  • Season 4 is finally out! As a big fan of ‪@strangerthings‬ I thought it would be interesting to celebrate the new season with a remake of the infamous opening theme. I recently bought myself the ‪@ArturiaOfficial‬ V Collection 8 and in there you can find many of the iconic synths the original composers used to get this sweet analog sound.
    I am by no means a retro synth expert but the V Collection 8 makes it super easy and fun to try out different presets and tweak them until they sound how you want them to be. Had a lot of fun making this and hopefully you enjoy a glimpse into this little journey :)

    your version almost sounds better in some ways, although the tape wow and flutter effects could have been used more sparingly, as in popping it in in places where the music gets less intense, in order to give you a sense of imbalance, I would have used the Juno106 for that bass though, because of the Juno chorus. iconic!

    When I first bought the Arturia collection, I was super-impressed.
    But since then I have reappraised it, and have come to the conclusion that it's actually not very good.
    Sure, lots of instruments and they all look fantastic, BUT, having used the real instruments they emulate, a lot are not even close.
    For instance, their MiniMoog is feeble and lacks any punch. The SEM, again, lacks any warmth or presence, and notably lacks any unison mode like the real Oberheim 8-Voice.
    Try the MiniMonsta and OB-E from GForce and will you hear the difference immediately. Also the Cherry Audio versions beat Arturia every time, most notably their CS-80 which is absolutely awesome.
    I suggest you do the same and just download the trials and you will realise that Arturia is not all it's cracked up to be.

      @DavidRitt  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for the input mate. That would actually be a cool video idea to try to remake the stranger things intro with different emulators and hear the difference!

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK Месяц назад

      @@DavidRitt Well, I needed a few retro machines for my Pink Floyd tribute band, so Arturia seemed to fit the bill, but one by one I have replaced most of them with far superior emulations. Oh, I also failed to mention, Arturia is REALLY CPU hungry compared to others.

      They are digital, not analog. Even by using LFOs to emulate the fluctuations, they still sound dull to me.
      I find that a lot of stuff sounds dull though. So take it with a pinch of salt haha.

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK 26 дней назад +1

      @@Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap Good emulations also imitate the imperfections of the circuitry.
      A classic example is the MiniMoog, which is really down to a pair of paired transistors in the VCF. Some were good, some were not. I've played dozens of Minis over the years, and some were amazing, and some were crap.

    • @Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap
      @Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap 26 дней назад

      @@TryptychUK What I've meant by fluctuations.
      I don't know synths up to the circuitry level though.
      I'd rather go full analog if I can and have few bits here and there. I'm not always that convinced about digital (while I've started full digital). There's some great stuff in digital that analog can't do but the “sound of circuitry” is something that I deeply love. I grow up on my mom's tastes like TFF, Seal, U2, Depeche Mode etc... so the whole wave era is important to me.
