The Japanese have effectively been forced to build a modern military - including AEGIS Destroyers. They have three threats to consider: Russian and Chinese Naval Military Power - additionally North Korea 🇰🇵 has often launched ballistic missiles that have landed in Japan’s EEZ.
The JMSDF is the top three surface navy in world, IMO, vice Russia. When it comes to submarines, completely different story! Absolutely loved this video, awesome job! 🇯🇵
There i remember wasn't there Work on a surface launched version of the ASM-3 because that would be a small but an effectiv upgrade. i think there called XSSM
So it looks like the Maya class are comparable to the Type 055 Destroyers. It might not have the S and X band radars I'm not sure. But the CEC is impressive. I'm guessing the 055 and perhaps the new Chinese Frigates will also have something similar?
Some key technology, not all. Significant components still have to be imported, and are beholden to countries that produced them. They're not China, with complete supply chain in house. Argentina found that out the hard way during the Falklands war.
Most Japan tech are US direcly used tech. I was stunt when I saw Japan PC in'80 which it had boost up with Japanese language screen and I found later that it is MS DOS version that juat translate to japanese words.
@@NationChosenByGod No , Aegis or Aesa radar were 1st invented by Soviets or US. The earlier type was SCANFAR which had deployed on US warships. Soviet warships in the same period can be seen equipped with the same type of radar. I'd therefore say that early Aegis was PESA radar ,not Aesa. And Japan transceiver in its 1st Aesa airborne radar has very low power that it cannot challenge conventional wave tube radar one. That's why the US didn't abruptly deploy its own Aesa until high-power high-frequency semiconductor fabrication are matured enough. So, Japan was just a result of failure trying on its F2 fighter.
For a country that had no army or navy, Japan sure had a powerful Warship that most real navy of a country cannot compete. Especially their destroyer. Honestly, if my country purchased 3 of them from Japan, that's already enough to rival in the entire region lol

I love the look of most of the Japanese SDF navy ships. Akagi, Kongo, Atago, Maya, Hyuga to the flat topped Hyuga and Izumo class destroyers. 2nd most powerful navy in the world yet it's all hamstrung buy it's military constitution.
If there is anything learnt from the Ukraine war is whether any conflict can be sustained after an initial engagement. Supplies, repairs and even replacements. At this moment I dot see how Japan can continue after losing some ships.
Oh yeah, how about the Royal Navy... take for example the upcoming Type 26 frigates, the City-class. Almost all of the names of the ship being built are from the Town-class light cruisers of the 1930's, like Glasgow and Belfast.
Like the Americans, the Japanese lack a cutting-edge hypersonic anti-ship missile. Their AEGIS is also of questionable effectiveness against stealth aircraft. Still though, their fleet could be the decisive factor in a Sino-American naval war over Taiwan.
America leads the development of hypersonic missiles and they are by far head and shoulders above the rest in terms of testing. There is no evidence to support the claims of the Chinese and Russians to have such weapons and considering the latests testing of hypersonic weapons in China missed the target by over 30km it is very safe to say that China has a lot of work to do before actually developing a hypersonic weapon. As for the effectiveness of the AEGIS system against stealth jets, there are some pretty big advantages that the Americans have over the others. First the nation have been working on stealth technology for half a century. If there is a nation in the world that can develop a system to protect against stealth jets it is the US. And to be honest J-20 is not exactly the stealthiest jet out there. It is no where near the sophistication of F-22 or F-35. J-20 is slightly better than the stealthiest 4th gen jet at best.
@@georgedang449 Like how? China to this day don't have any hypersonic missiles that are also maneuverable. None! Not even a single one! You can't make hypersonic missiles without addressing the problems and they clealry haven't

The Japanese are brilliant engineers and shipwrights. It's no surprise at all that the JMSDF is professional and powerful.
Comparing to JAXA's Hayabusa2 asteroid sample-return mission, developing a cruise missle will be like a park walk.

A self defense force with 2 de facto aircraft carriers !

Imagine they made another type of aegis destroyers with hypersonic missiles then they named it 'Yamato'
