No wonder you have never heard of Birgit Nilssom. But you must have heard of Birgit Nilsson? She was one of the greatest and most powerful Wagnerian singers of the 20th century. She sang big and difficult parts like Brünnhilde, or Strauss's Elektra, without any apparent effort or strain.
@simisimi9 are a very respectable artist but newer like Nilsson in this role. In the Verona Arena you could listen the voice outside from arena. This is just my modest opinion. Buy Buy
She can sing this, but the result is a bit odd. She doesnt seem very concerned by the traditional anger. Maybe she sees Turandot as a post traumatic, depressed character.
MARIA CALLAS CHANGED OPERA AND THE WAY TO INTERPRETE AND LIVE THE MUSIC....DESSAY , CABALLE, SERAFIN...ARE IGNORANTS WHEN THEY SAY HOW BRILLIANT THIS WOMAN WAS???.......DO NOT SHAME YOURSELF POSTING YOUR IGNORANCE !!!!
I wish you could leave Callas out of every opera discussion. She was wonder at times and so-so at others. I saw her many times and was underwhelmed. If you want to call me names to so. It doesn't change the truth.
This was clearly in the early 60's....those high notes are so easy, round, resonant and creamy.
A Perfect Turandot.
Nilsson will always be the best Turandot.

@@catiacorrea5445 prettier as a woman, but not as powerful as a singer. Compare their respective Brünnhildes.
Yes!
Bravo. Never heard of her, to be honest. That was great. This is my favorite opera aria.

This is from the Bell Telephone Hour. Nilsson appeared four times on his show between 1961-1967.
Birgit, what else ? ♥️

Jon Freeman when was she underwhelming? I’m genuinely curious.
@@paragod333 I could go forever without hearing Callas's name again. Overrated.
