Seems like the update is gonna have some cool stuff. I don't actually hate skill trees as long as they are decently well done. What are your thoughts Beard?
I think Winona will be pretty solid, Wurt concerns me until I have it in my hands to see how much water will impact her now, the ocean stuff is okay if not wholly optional which is always tough to swallow nowadays, and the Crab King looks interesting but they might've just made him even MORE annoying... We'll see though!

@maxpou39p84 well, ig technically. It's a shit ton of spools though, and it more or less forces you to pay. It's kind of like Supercell's Clash Royale logic if you can see my connection. You're more or less forced to either buy them or give your life to the grind

For a cool 'amphibian' skill for Wurt, she could potentially confer Wetness to enemies with melee hits, boosting Electric damage automatically, without relying on water balloons or rain. That would be a nifty trick to boost her combat capabilities.
They better do some serious cooking for Walter's skill tree, because it's criminal that he still doesn't have one

Wurt has to be able to swim in coastal waters. Imagine instead of wasting grass and twigs to get that pearl's message in a bottle, you just step into the water and take it. That would be so crazy based and would 100% carry the entire wurt skill tree.
Coastal only though, yeah. It will be like wadding in the water versus swimming which is passable and not too mod-like.

In the Winona section they mentioned they want to make characters that you usually just switch to for something and immediately away from again more interesting to stay on which I think is awesome.
Which they are certainly attempting to do however they backed themselves into a corner years ago with the catapults as unless the rest of Winona is bonkers good people are still just gonna set up catapult farms and switch again... 😬😬
If the catapult remote is Winona only and couple that with only Winona being able to reposition her stuff, I think it's already doing a good job at keeping people on the character instead of just using her in a late game world once for a varg/boss farm and never again.
I hope that means Warly’s coming up soon

as a wurt main I feel Wurts skill tree should include differ merm types like example a fisher merm can fish for fish every day but only when they are left alone and go in during dusk and night or wood chopping berms which are 75% more efficient and with merm kings mat she could put four different towers around the map giving different buffs/attributes to berms like extra dmg and armor/defense maybe they can learn to craft swamp related weapons and going back to the job specific merms maybe things like archer merms or merm commanders also make wurt have things like battle standards like wig and structures like a tentacle nursery can create tentacle traps which can be used for defense or a tree like the driftwood tree that can provide fruits and health regeneration increasing by 1.25x with every 3 stages of growth I also think that she should go along with medieval type themes mostly and mix in some merm history like from the gorge and add a queen merm maybe solely focused on wurts abilities for maybe the lunar and shadow side I guess or just keep it simple and what if they made Wigfrig and Wolfgang synergy stronger with wurt because now Wolfgang has a coaching whistle and Wigfrig gots songs as well as her being vegan as in able to eat eggs and she should be able to eat stuff like veggie burger because if it aint veggie then what is it?
TLDR: Give wurts job merms and different merm variety with mat buffs for king/merms and structures
and she should go with the medieval vibe in the swamp, and make a syngergy with wolfgang, wigfrig, and wurt and make wurt able to eat eggs, and leafy meat
Yeah I hope they make her a more utility character since we already have a character who uses minions for damage (Webber)
Things I’d love to see on the Wurt skill tree:
-more merm types. Gatherers? Ranged fighters? Healers? Let us make a full army. Realistically I’m not sure how they could balance this, or how much it would step on other character’s gimmicks (Wurt is already a fantastic jack of all trades)
-An item that lets her agro all her merms on an enemy from range, without doing weird boomerang cancel shenanigans. Bonus points if it can also summon them back so they stop fighting every spider in the woods.
-Definitely overpowered and more of a wishlist thing, but possibly the ability to swim outright?
Wurt’s balancing feels a lot more akin to pre-rework characters, with less specialization and more focus on being a jack of all trades, which she is FANTASTIC at. It’s hard to think of two specific paths for a character like her when she can already do most things capably.
Same dude same, when it comes to obliterating bosses Wurt excels at it with her Merm army. I’m just praying for something similar like more structure choices and Merm types (Fishermerm all the way) and it wouldn’t be too unfair if Wurt was able to swim as gameplay wise Woodie is able to do that with the Were-Goose and lore wise Klei has shown that Merms are capable of swimming through the Constant’s ocean as allured to in The Gorge.
On a silly side note I drew concepts of Wurt having the ability to headbutt once as I thought it would be something she would do.
I’m not sure about ranges merms and healer merms, sounds too similar to Webber’s gimmick. Gathering though, that would be sweet.
swimming is something i've always wanted for Wurt, too (even if it's only in shore water, since i feel like it could definitely be a little bit busted if you could go literally anywhere in the sea with full control of your character and their weapon while swimming)! i feel like it'd help with the jack-of-all-trades thing by giving wurt a bit of potential to be a map scout in the early game, and it'd just be a nice convenience anywhere beyond that point. at most, it might let you go to lunar early if it's restricted to shore water (iirc, the water type from land to the lunar island is considered shore water, for some reason), but with the recent-ish addition of grass rafts, going to lunar without much prep is something you could already do as wilson, so i think it'd be neat if wurt could do it even easier!

Might be too much to handle for some, yeah! We'll have to see! Mosquitoes have a built in death though once they blow up from sucking too much blood!

@@TheBeard777 wouldn't that damage the merms though? mosquitos definitely could be a really good way to kill bosses with minions (such as vargs or bee quin)

also Wormwood needs a Driftwood Skin for the ocean stuff. he has very little ocean stuff.
I always love new ocean content, especially those new ships; I actually miss the lunar new year stuff already since the boat parts were so cheap

Wurt skill tree is major concern so far. Though, they did say there is merm civilisation stuff.
I dont know if you knew about it already but currently with willow you can get infinite boards and gunpowder. There is that setpiece with tons of wooden walls and a chest(fire staff inside) and if you open that chest it drops out gunpowder and boards. Normaly it would automatically blow up igniting the walls but with Willow you just have to quickly extinguish it and repeateadly open, extinguish and close the chest .its game changing considering you can get stacks of the stuff very quickly. I noticed it this week so its probably not patched or it might just be a playstation thing. I just wanted to tell you this. Also, as always i appriciate your content! Thanks❤
Wurt water skill ideas:
Learns to swim in coastal water (already said in vid)
Learns to uproot kelp fronds by hand, with a shovel, or custom tool she might learn the recipe for
Learns to thaw ponds
Learns to make her own bodies of freshwater

Surprisingly wurt skill tree arrive so quick. I was saying she is the finale! The only thing i can relate to her early update would be taming grassgator(wurt exclusive) as part of ocean qol. It's just fun, practical, and cute.

Remember how big of a deal it was when TF2 was updated to that the engineer could move his buildings?
It was a big deal because it was a fast paced first person shooter and knowing kiel they are probably gonna need to be carried like marble statues.

@@zlaggaming68 knowing klei youre gonna be able to teleport them to any explored spot on your map instantly at the cost of 0.01 hunger + if you spend 5 hp you can multiply their damage and attack rate 50 fold
I think wurt should be able to use fish to change the merms she gives them too like giving an eel to merms will allow them to add electricity to their attacks.Also think mosquitos could be interesting as maybe they get filled after each attack on a mob and after being filled explode healing the closest 3 or so merms .

Ain't no way they actually making Crab King a manageable boss fight. Not only that but also making the ocean just a lil more lively. Still would like actual boats and not rafts though. Either way this update would make for interesting seaside basing.

I would like a waddle like mechanic for when falling on the sea giving you seconds for get in a boat because sometimes for those pesky times triying to jump between boats, obviously this gives 100 moisture
I hope crab king getting a complete rework means other bosses like fuelweaver and toadstool can get similar treatment

A few wetness perks that'd be sweet...
Speed and regen from dampness- being able to move more fluidly the less dry she is.
Perhaps the ability to swim for a brief distance/at the expense of hunger... Or she could have items for it?
Wurt has solid potential. And with enough frogs, a single target boss can be pulverized by swarms. Mosquito weapons could potentially provide more ways to overwhelm the one target bosses. We'll need to see just how they behave though.
Doesn't seem too impressive yet. But, they may surprize us.

Honestly the one thing I want above All Else, is a building grid for easier placement on switch and console. Such a thing already exists for walls, but one of the main things that puts me off playing Don't starve right now is the fact that I know I'll have to go through the process of trying to build a base switch.
It's also why I have completely ignored wormwood, because farming is also an entertaining experience on the switch.
During the stream I was thinking the entire time that this update was made for wurt mains, and then they show her skill tree 😮
Also stacking this new gem tree with the xmas tree loot and ruin reseting will finally be optional for long runs
The trees are being added for those who still struggle with or simply cannot run the caves, yeah. I know Dragonfly exists but not everyone can or wants to fight her over and over and over again.

Probably, but it's too early to tell. The Stream did show them auto-killing cookie cutters so... that might be interesting! 👀

1:47 Hold on! Merm king getting an all shard reach of his influence? This will pair amazing with servers that host a lot of shard like island adventure shipwrecked and the eventual hamlet part of the mod. You would be stacked through all four shards (six, if including hamlet port that may be released in a couple years).
It'd be interesting if Wurt and by extention the merms had unique reactions to the seasons.
•For Autumn everything is normal (no upsides or downsides)
•For Winter they are slower (attack, speed, digestion)
•For Spring they get buffs (they're in their element)
•For Summer they dry out (deal less damage, loss health faster)

YES, FINALLY!!! I've played this game for almost 900 hours, and around 90% of that time was with Winona, I wanna go into cryosleep for 3 weeks. Also, thank god for the Crab King rework, easily one of the worst parts of DST, I wonder why it took this long.

I'm all for this new update especially since Wurt is my favorite to play as, I'm hoping they'll add new things to strengthen Merms or new Merm structures like the Fishermerm from Shipwrecked. But ocean stuff overall I'm fine with, looking forward to the whole salt formations as they're hell to move around.

Im in my first attempt to defeat celestial champeon ever! I've tried to rush the thing but im currently on say 123, i'll wait to the crab rework as the metod today is kind of a pain to do (like 5 ice staffs and many boats???, nope

also the amphibian stuff sounds interesting. maybe she can swim with right perks so she wont need boat to explore the sea? if so maybe its for a limited time so it wont be too broken lol or maybe its just certain types of waters like in the calmer areas perhaps? or maybe it got something to do with em frogs
I'm guessing Winona's is going to be so over tuned that it's fantastic where Wurt's will just be things that are neat, sure, but nothing crazy.

Ive killed crab king exactly one time and it was HELL ON EARTH. Took like 40 attempts and there were obviously a feeeeew rollbacks😂. He needed this rework. Celestial champion was easy next to crab king

Are they ever going to make it more console friendly? Like it is such a drag playing on xbox cuz i dont have a pc and the placement, to the controls, or the fact its not keyboard compatible. I dont know much about coding keyboard compatibility in games but i figure it wouldnt be that hard since its the same keybinds as computer dst
As long as they keep an old Crab King version around, I don't mind it.
I miss the OLD Ancient Guardian which was far more difficult ( if not cheesed ) than the new one.
Maybe something like the terrarium could be implemented, get a different harder fight if you specifically give nightmare fuel.
I know the current Crab King does give that to a player, if you know what i mean.
They aren't keeping the old Crab King around by the sound of it.
Klei really need to add second chester but make it so it has beef with the original and can't take both of them. Just someone else to have something like chester it will be cool.

terraria already had gem trees. they should have added them with the other terraia stuff in my opinion. that way we could get a gem tree for EACH color of basic gem.
