@@kingtaeminemsglasses Well recently for a few years, Iran has been in the news for some unfortunate events, such as fewer women rights, and tensions with some other states. But I feel it has a very rich culture and the people are very nice. They share a very similar food and language to India. Some Iranians I know are the nicest people I have met. So I guess there are good and bad everywhere, but as a whole, I feel Farsi people are nice.

"Goodbye" in English is a contraction for "God be with ye"--so the phrases are the same! Thank you for these lessons.

I am from Indonesia. I used to live in Iran in 2001 for 6 months or more. Lived in Bushehr and Ahwaz. I really love and miss Iran, the nation and the people. And Farzi sounds really beautiful.

we also use subh bekhair, shab bekhair and khuda hafiz in punjabi/urdu. Iv been going round youtube watching these easy persian/farsi videos and i must say the speakers llike yourself are gorgeous. Persian people are so beautiful, im envious.
We use "sabahin kheyir" mean "good morning" but "khudafiz" mean "good bye" used by only old people or some small minorities in Azerbaijan (northern).
I'm from Greece and for years I wanted to learn Farsi because I admired the culture and history of a great nation, unfortunately I learned English instead. Anyways I hope that I will manage to travel in Persia in the near future.

Recently started working with a few Iranian people. One of them speaks barely any English, but she's very sweet and this will help me communicate and form a stronger bond with all of them. Even if I only know a few words and phrases, communication is key!

I really like that she says Persian instead of Farsi. So many people confuse the two, but it's important that they don't. Farsi is the word used in the Persian language itself to describe the dialect of Persian spoken in Iran (versus elsewhere, such as in Afghanistan). It actually evolved from Arabic, since in Arabic, the P isn't part of their phonology, but F is, and so Parsi became Farsi. Now, in English, because so many people are learning the word "Farsi," they think it means Persian, when in fact it is a Persian word used in the Persian language. In linguistics, such is called an endonym. What's funny is that Persian (pers-) has been around far longer and so when people erroneously say Farsi, they're actually saying the same word, but one that has been transliterated by Arabic much, much later and one that is used in a foreign language to describe a dialect.
It would be like saying in Chinese "mlkfjglkmj dmlkjfdmlkj AMERICAN mldkfjmlkj." American is no more a language than Farsi is a language, just like Iranian isn't a language or Jewish isn't a language. And, it most especially isn't the right word because it's used in their language, lol.
It's a shame that so much of the heritage is lost: No one has ever heard of a Farsi cat or a Farsi rug, and even the academy of Persian corrected the misuse back in 2010, but since so many people copy what they hear instead of checking, the error will of course go on for some time until people realize that it's not the right word. Oh well. I think I'll be learning Persian myself here really soon, I already know a handful or words. Iranians are so, so nice!!!
in india, farsi is considered the language of the country of iran. persian nowadays is a new version or western version or english speakers version of considering the same language
@@veer4110 India is not a convention of the English language. In both the British and American conventions of the English language (the only two on the planet), Farsi is not the transliterated endonymic word, but Persian. Farsi is no more English than saying that you speak "espagnol" instead of saying Spanish. You can say whatever you like, of course. If your native tongue is Spanish, then of course most native English speakers won't care if you say "espagnol" or if you pronounce your country or native place names as you would pronounce them in your dialect of Spanish because most people intuit that it's more about identity and community than it is standard language. However, in standard English, Persian is the word, not Farsi. I'm just reporting the facts, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. You can check out what the Academy of Persian says on the subject if you like, back in 2010, they published a report explaining that people in English should not be replacing Persian with Farsi because of the word's heritage and how it will be lost if people do that. Say what you like, of course.
@@semasiologistics for english speakers they translated the farsi language basically that is what it is so that people who don’t have much knowledge can understand or distinguish. its like mesopotamia, it does not cover a single country but mor than one. like i said persian is the new version, for the world to distinguish and they call it “standard” now just because it was officially decided. which is a shame they should have kept the traditional word for people to understand and one day farsi word will be gone, thus losing a big part of heritage. i have persian friends and when i met them they ask me do you speak farsi? so basically it is for general use. if i ask my dad what is the language called in iran, his answer will be same like farsi speakers due to farsi being used centuries before in india as well. urdu is the language spoken in pakistan, but if they also change it to pakistani just like language of persia being persian now, it would not make any sense to people who are so used to the traditional way. people of persia are persian and language they speak is farsi. i have also read that article btw lol, you will see a short paragraph where it says its translated. conclusion is persian is considered standard now to make it easier or to promote the language. india cannot be the convention for anything in english but who knows in the future lol. india has 4 languages in oldest languages of the world so it can indirectly effect other languages in the world, be it egyptian or greek or italian etc. similarly spanish does not make sense in american language since espanol speakers are majority latinos in america, so they arent spanish, but they speak espagnol and they are all from south america or central etc

Persian has borrowed many words from Arabic because of islamic religion, but original Persian is Indo-European like English. Some random words.
ENGLISH: mother, father, daughter, brother, name, mouse, yoke
PERSIAN: mādar, pedar, dokhtar, barādar, nâmè, mŭš, yŭğ
ARABIC: um, alab, aibna, akh, aism , fa'ar, nir

I disagree. Persian didn't borrow most of its Arabic words, but Arabic imperialism is why Persian got so many Arabic words in it. Also, the words you showed in Persian are also very similar across all Indo-European languages, and this is what has led linguists to the conclusion that there was a Proto-Indo-European language before Greek, before Slavic languages, before Persian, etc. Indeed, there was one, and that is why mother, father, etc are all so similar in all the Indo-European languages, of which, Persian is definitely a member. But yeah, most of the words in Persian that are from Arabic are because of Arabic imperialism, not borrowing, for example as is the case with sciences, arts and so forth from different languages. Even Farsi itself is from Arabic, and it's not because Persian didn't have a word for its own language. It's called imperialism. And it's very, very sad. Most of the great scholars in the Arab world are from or went to Persia for their education :)

This is the way how to speak pure Persian without Arabic loanwords:
"Salâm, cetori?" ---> "Dorud, cuni?"
"Salâm, hâle šomâ cetore? ---> "Dorud, hâle šomâ cegune ast?"
"Salâm, hâlet cetore?" ----> "Dorud, cegune hasti?"
"Salâm, sobh bexeyr." ---> "Dorud, bâmdâd xoš."
"Šab bexeyr." ----> "Šab xoš."
"Good evening." ---> "Ivâr xoš." / "Pasin xoš."
In Persian there are many ways to say "Goodbye.":
-Xodânegahdâr.
-Bedrud
-Xodâ behamrâh

Great video! Just a quick note: you mention Kohdahafez means "May God protect you" in Persian and is used to say "Goodbye". Many English speakers don't realise that Goodbye is a contraction of "God be with you!" - so, in that respect, our languages are also the same :)
Actually, a lot of these words are Arabic. The real way to say hello in Persian is Dorud, or dorud bar shoma/to. Salam is Arabic.
Instead of Shab bekheir, bekheir being Arabic, you can use khosh, which means the same thing. So you can say Shab Khosh. Sobh be kheir is mostly Arabic. The Persian for morning is Baamdaad. So you can say baamdaad khosh. Instead od chetori, tor being Arabic, you can say cheguneyi?. Also, instead of Farsi, which has Arabic influence, you can say Paarsi, which is the original way. Instead of Khodaafez, Hafez being arabic, you can say khodaanegahdaar. You can also say Bedrud. They both mean bye. This is because the Arabs didn't have the letter P, and it isnt for Parsi, other words got influenced as well. Fil, elephant, was Pil. Esfahaan, the city, was Espahaan. Gusfand, sheep, was guspand. Parsi was also originally Parsig, as the i suffix was ig in Middle Persian.
I think Salam is a common word in many Semitic languages.

afghans speak Persian dari, so basically the same thing.
Tariq I’m Afghan and I understood everything she said? The main difference is that Dari and Parsi use different slang. But it’s mostly the same. Like on Dari we say “Ow” for water. In Parsi it’s “Ob”. Although in Dari it is technically also ob, people will say Ow cuz that is afghan slang.
these first few videos i feel like i already knew all this. i used to hangout with alot of Persians and they would speak exclusively in farsi.

Salam khoobi? is actually the translation of ''Hello, Are you Okay?'' which we say when we want to make sure if everything is alright. But usually when we see somebody we say ''How are you?'' which means ''salam chetory? ''. However, I am agree with you that ''salam khoobi?'' is common too.
