I just install this exact speed head on my 36v makita and fyi you don’t need to swap out the adapters. The gold and silver adapters have the same thread pattern. It works out of the box only thing you’ll need is the black spacer mentioned in the video.

They may have changed the thread pattern on the new heads or machines..... mine had to be changed but not a big issue...

@KeeDx3 I believe I just hand snugged it up with the spacer....I have had no issues with it. Seems fine since I installed it.

Did you need to grind it off? or it goes straight in? Thanks

Thanks for pointing that out! I took the SpeedFeed off my old Echo PAS225 and it fit the Makita with the existing gold threads. I did order the adapter off eBay. Part #V376001850.

I purchased this same unit, put on a speed head, and threw away the one that came right out of the box. I am a homeowner with 1.5 acres and several fenced areas. I have purchased my last gas trimmer. I really love this unit. It is comfortable to use, and I normally never use it at more than 2/3 power. I use a lot of different Makita 18 V power tools, I have 8 batteries charged, so I always have them ready for use.

I havnt changed the head atm. Have done 3 sets of batteries and still on the line taht was in spool from factory I do hate the stupid knob thing. Will be putting a speed feed on it tomorrow. It was day 2 of me using this machine and I love it

Seems to use way less line than gas...likely because you aren't being as aggressive with it. But I do like that it uses less line. As far as the head goes....yes change it out asap and do the mod with the bolt and you will never have an issue. Mine is holding up perfectly.

You don't have to grind down that spacer that's not the proper spacer. That silver when you're using isn't what you want it fits perfectly right out of the box with the gold threaded piece that's already in it you don't have to do anything with the adapters throw them away

Hi. I will do my best from memory as I don't have it anymore. I am not sure if you were referring to the makota speed feed head but if you do then.... from the bottom turn the inside button so it lines up with the eyelets there should be a orange line on the button. Then take about 8 feet of line and feed it thru the eyelet thru the middle button and back out the opposite eyelet. Pull it even half way and use the middle bump button and holding the outside of the head twist it to the right I believe to wind the line in. Stop when it's loaded....hope this helps and I wish you best of luck and sending good thoughts to you and your husband.

Yea I bought new makita weed eater and when I stop the head pops off. Is it because I didn’t tighten it enough? Thanks

Yes, unfortunately, the manual doesn't give adequate information on this.

Realized the upgrade head is a speed feed head and you don't need to open it up to load line!.....yes I didn't read the directions...lol. my bad! However.....cutting height is too high, too sensitive and wastes line, still a no go for us.

Which exact model of Echo Speed Feed 400 did you get to fit the Makita 36v? I can’t seem to find definite answers anywhere. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

    • @jimmygreen50

It's a Echo Speed Feed 400 head available from home depot or most landscape equipment supply. It comes with the adapters that fit the makita thread pattern

Thanks for the information and tips. Do you use aftermarket brush cutting blades on the makita and how do they attatch? I am also looking to use plastic blades like a Stihl cutting head with 3 blades. I have tough weeds and several miles of fence lines. Appreciate your thoughts.

    • @jimmygreen50
      @jimmygreen50  2 года назад

I haven't used a blade on it but it did come with a bolt to attach one. I believe you can use a blade with a 1" (aprox) center hole. One issue I have with this machine is when under load it has a tendency to cut out....it's a safety feature that prevents the motor from overheating, but it does this when I run my line a bit long....so I don't know if it would work. Maybe for a small patch. Just remember this machine is for light duty commercial work only.... don't expect it's going to replace a gas machine just yet. If I need to do some serious tall grass brushing I would use my Stihl. We use this for manicured lawns only and works great.

Probably my message comes too late. The way you have been winding your line (or the way it came from the factory) on your Echo head is the other way Makita turns...
