Extra tip from a short rider:
Shaving your seat down definitely is a good option if you just need that extra half inch to an inch. But also brings your seat sides in!!!! No one ever mentions this and it was a life saver for me. My seat was way too wide for me and when I'd put my foot down it'd be out past my shoulder which made me unstable. Shaved down the sides of my seat and now I can put my foot down in line with my shoulder. This squares your body and is a lot stronger of a position. Similar concept to how one foot down is a stronger foundation than putting both feet down

    1. As a short dude myself, I think all your suggestions are solid. Getting really good at one-footing instead of feeling the need to put both feet down at stops has helped a ton too.
    2. Your dad is totally right about SAABs. I've owned two. Very nice place to be, especially for nighttime driving.

Great video! I'm 5'2" and had a Rebel 500 first that I touched well with. Then I got my Ninja 650, and I could touch, but not well which ended up with me dropping it 3 times! I finally got it lowered and feel so much better! I totally get the adding confidence thing! I still could use a bit more height, but it's better at least!

  • @MsFloFlo95

I'm 5'1 with shorter legs than average for my size. I had to accept the fact that I won't be touching much of the ground unless I go for a cruiser, but that's not my style sadly. I went with a lowered Z650 and the low seat. But even with that and my Daytona compensated shoes, I can barely touch the ground. It makes me anxious to go out, especially because there's a tricky spot right next to my place that I have to go through every time I go out. When I don't ride for a while I do get pretty anxious about yet another fall, but once I'm on the road I just love it.
Next spring I will be practicing a hell lot of slow speed maneuvers to hopefully get more confident and get rid of that anxiety!

Not really sure why I am watching this video at 6'4" (194cm), but these are good tips. You'd think being tall is fantastic all the time, and it's great at times, but you hit your head on stuff all the time. I lowered my Daytona 675 by an inch after I had an accident that wrecked my ankle and couldn't comfortably tiptoe on that foot. What a difference! The confidence boost it gave me was huge! I don't really understand the fearmongering around using lowering links... it changed the dynamics of the bike so little, I barely noticed and frankly didn't care enough (I guess if you're racing then sure, you'd hate it). And the added confidence it gave me made the change worth it a thousand times over.

"HAPPY THANKSGIVING LALI", Always great content that you provide. Your right on the Short Rider issue, sorry I didn't share the input. I'm at 5 foot maybe 5 foot 1 inch. Always had an issue with all the bikes I had and that's 16 . The 70 and 80's 90's bikes lowered shocks and shaved the seats cause there was lots of padding. Now for my recent bikes it's lowering kits, reducing the suspension within reason and with today's seats there's not much to shave. There was a person in Hayward, CA many moons ago that actually made 3 inch raised soles on motorcycle racing boots, it was very nice, but he was selling it his custom boots at $800.00 a pair. I didn't bite and guess no one did also, his business didn't last long. Ergonomics of bikes are getting worse for short riders, seat position is raising two to three inches to push the rider forward, tanks and seats are getting wider reducing the angle to put your foot down, and as loud as you scream at the manufacturers about having adjustable seats or having an option in frame design for the shorter rider it's always a deaf eat. So short riders do the best to have a fun enjoyable ride without renting space in their head over this. By the way I added a 2021 Honda CMX 500 to my collection of two bikes, it's nice to have two feet on the ground. 😉 Take care from Central Valley California

If you're 5'7 and below and want to ride a "sport oriented" i.e not a cruiser bike, get used to using just one feet on the ground. Lean the bike slightly to one side and you'll be fine. I'm 5'7 and ride a VFR 800 and at one point lowered it. Only real reason i wanted it lower is to handle the weight ( its almost 500 lbs) But eventually put it back to stock height once I learned how to ride the bike properly. Sport bikes are not meant to be lowered as it just compromises the handling in corners. Now if you ride ADVs, we'll they are just waay too tall stock but you can get lower seats for some models. Bottom line, either get a cruiser if you want both feet on the ground or get comfortable stopping at a light with just one foot

Narrow the seat rather than lower it, also move your arse over to the side slightly, makes it easier to get your foot down.
Final tip, take some training. Practice too 😁
    You're still perfectly petite😁

Daytona makes some really nice boots with thicker soles specifically for shorter riders. Not sure what the availability in the US is like but daytona make of the nicest boots money can buy. I really don't like lower seats. It moves the handle bar up relative to my body, I use leverage. Not good. Lowering the bike messes with it's geometry as well, better than lowering the seat but not great either.
The main thing for me is sliding over on the seat towards the side I want to put my foot down. Good enough to ride a Multi V4S with a 28" inseam. No paddling backwards with my feet though. :D

5:44 - “….. the wider tank u have …..” - that’s 1 of the reasons some riders like V-twins (1 cylinder behind the other = slimmer gas tank). Found that out real quick in 2009 when I purchased a VTX 1800 F1. Much less leg splay than the 919 I had been riding.

Got me a Yamaha MT125 and fitted -30mm links to the rear before even taking to the road (810mm seat reduced to 780mm) And that still only gives me tippy toes contact with ground!! ...I'm quite pissed that the manufacturers design for a taller demographic in the first place. But what can we do?... Buy cruiser (Low saddle) in lieu of Sport bike each time? ...Not everybody's preference nor price range. Hmmm!!. Sure... As long as we don't come a cropper and enjoy ourselves. We shorties will find a way. (I wonder if Elton John has any 70's era platform boots going spare??)

Just watched your last three videos in a row... So don't wonder, why I'm commenting "everywhere all at once"... 😆
I'm short, old(er) and stubborn and therefore did it exactly the other way round... I decided what bike I'd like to ride, did lots of research, took a seat on it a 100 times, tried different seat configurations, considered lowering it and boots with an inner wedge (which are available for dudes, too), decided against it, went with a lowered and narrower seat only and instead trained to "tame the big beast" with only one foot down. Worked out pretty well...
For context: I'm 1,75m (which should translate to ju(uuu)st under 5 foot 9) which still counts as short as far as I know. And I ride a BMW R1250 GS Adventure, which is - as far as the internet reviews go - should be driven by folks at least 1,85m (6 foot 1) tall... And I don't wanna miss one single kilometer on that black beauty... 😁
And THANKS for presenting the Flying Eyes glasses (again). Ordered a pair yesterday (without lenses), will get them tomorrow and will take them to my local optician here in Germany to get prescription glasses in the frame before spring. Guess this will solve my "dents in the head" problem once and for all.

    • @AntiParallali

The R1250 is indeed a beastly bike. Probably a similar example to the Pan America, if not even taller. Ah the dents in the head problem 😂 I know exactly what you mean, been there.

    • @markuskoob9335
      @markuskoob9335 Год назад

@@AntiParallali You're absolutely right! Those two are comparable / mostly identical. (The seat height of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is at 850 mm (as far is I know), the seat of the standard GS is 850 millimeters high and the GS Adventure is up to 870 mm high - due to 160 mm more ground clearance.)
And regarding the glasses: FedEx has been superfast (even without ordering express service). They delivered yesterday! 🤯The glasses frame fits like a dream, I'm considering switching to the Flying Eyes as my everyday glasses! 🥸Brought it to the optician yesterday, the whole thing will be ready next week. Can't wait!

You are taller than the average female in the US and a huge part of the males on the planet are shorter than you. But usually scooters are made for shorter people as scooters are popular with both sexes in areas where people are shorter.
And see, maybe there is an opportunity in creating bikes that have the ability to adjust wheel size, suspension, handlebars and more, to widen the market a bit. Weight could be considered too as it impacts the center of gravity.
Also, electric bikes give manufacturers a LOT more freedom on how to shape the bike - for now some manufacturers are too silly to remove the fake tank or to make it thin, they are stuck in the past but the industry will mature. There is also plenty of room to improve the freedom allowed as batteries gain in energy density and battery packs become structural, partially replacing the frame, or the 2 merging if you want.
And further down the road, self balancing bikes can become viable. Or why not, a robot horse/bike hybrid with wheels on legs.
An interesting aspect is safety when bikes offer so little flexibility in adjusting for different riders. One could use AI to design safer bikes and to adjust settings on the fly based on the size and weight of each rider to optimize for both safety and ride quality. it's funny how many regulations there are for car safety while for bikes, manufacturers are free to not care. There aren't even safety ratings.
There is room to revolutionize the industry.

My KLR is a pretty tall bike. I'm ~ 5'7"ish lol with an inseam around 30". I've got lowering links and I've shaved the seat a bit. When i lowered the bike i did have to "raise" the forks in the triple clamp about an inch to accommodate for the bike ergonomic change you reference. I still can't get both feet down, but i can get the balls of one of my feet down for when i stop. I don't want to lower it too much, so i don't lose too much ground clearance. I also wear what i guess are "tactical" style boots with a sturdy inch sole and they cover my ankles for protection.

I am actually jealous of shorter riders. I am 6ft 2 and have only ever owned sport bikes, from cbr 600 to s1000rr and even the Yamaha range and I always have the same problem. Being tall means when my feet go up on the foot pegs my knees are very high up and I feel cramped. I have to sit right back on my seat which is far from optimal as i like to be snug up on my tank. If im on the motorway or doing long rides I have to end up stretching my legs out in front of me for an extended period as my knee/legs get so cramped.
Sure its an advantage being able to place both feet on the ground with absolute ease and is probably the reason I have never dropped a bike riding for so many years but I'd trade that for less height any day. From my perspective shorter riders have it easier than taller riders.

    • @MrPythonProductionz
      @MrPythonProductionz Год назад

@@booates look at the moto gp riders. They are all short/petite. Sports bikes are designed for short/smaller people. Obviously there are advantages to being tall such as planting both feet on the ground when stationary but realistically when you are 6ft 2 and experiencing pains from being cramped, being shorter is easier.

That's the right conclusion: just get the bike that fits you.
All other methods are wasting of comfort, money, worsening of a bike.
Cruiser and classic bikes are most shorty-friendly, also low-med displacement streets.
