My girlfriend at the time had tickets to their concert and forced me to go which I didn't want to do. I was a pure hard rocker. Who would have guessed that 35 years later I would still look back on that night as one of the most amazing musical experiences I would ever see. When Marilyn sung Never My Love it was magic. I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was stunning to look at. We were about five rows from the stage. To this day I can still hear all of their voices.
I went to a concert they did in Portland OR and I, too, was forced. I left in awe! I was blown away by their performance, and we were up close just like you were. We even bought the CD or cassette... whatever it was at the time. From then on, I was a FAN for life! I just can't get enough of their beautiful music!!
From all of the live footage I have seen, their live shows were waaaay different from what the record companies marketed for radio. They made believers out of a lot of people who only knew what they heard on the radio.
Incredible!!!!' Singing!!!' Marilyn beautiful woman!!! What a voice!!! What a great group!!!! Live !!! No mimic!!! Best group of all time!!! Incredible harmonies!
I don't remember hearing this song when I was growing up in the 1970s. As far as I can recall, it was only when The 5th Dimension's Definitive Collection came out (1997) that I heard it for the first time -- and, personally, I think that this live version is even better than the (very well-done) live version that appears on the 1997 CD! In retrospect, this song is a sneak preview of the superb work that McCoo and Davis would do as a duo after leaving The 5th Dimension, several years later (especially "You Don't Have To Be A Star," and also "Your Love").
@@InCelebrationThe5thDimension Yes, it was actually on "The Greatest Hits On Earth" album that they had released in 1972. That features a live version with the Nat Brandwynne Orchestra. I have been looking for a non-live studio recording. I do not know if they had done that song anything but live as even The Essential Fifth Dimension from 2013 has a live version and that is a more than one CD compilation album. Please let me know if you could find a non-live studio rendition.
Absolutely. The 5th was all part of a musical backdrop to my youth in the 60s. Now I'm revisiting the group and studying who they are/where, etc. Billy said he was in LA to make it as a soloist....then the 5th happened. I think he had what it took to make it, but he became such an integral part of the 5th. I don't think they would have made it without his voice. Yes, they were all talented, but in my opinion, his voice was an anchor in the group.
Calvin37. Yes!! Billy Has A Powerful, Soulful Sound, Love He and His Wife! Both of Them Are UNSUNG!! Listen To Them Daily! Billy Shines On Rock Steady! Marilyn Can Sing Anything! Powerful, Amazing Voice, GOD Truly Blessed Them!! I Love Them, The Group Was Good! But These TWO Are Simply Beautiful❤️😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘❤️❤️
Ravishingly beautiful, brilliant vocalist and seems like a genuinely nice person. Even her speaking voice is lovely. She is performing in January 2020 in Palm Desert at the McCallum Theatre.
They represent American through and though. So totally blessed with such talent. My heart swells with such pride for their hard word and accomplishments. Bravo!
What a performance. They were great. They always put a smile on my face. Marilyn was a knock out in her younger days and Florence was not a bad looking woman herself.
OMG! What a performance! The BEST group in the history of music! Marilyn has got to be the most talented and most beautiful woman in the world. She was so young! What a doll! Billy you are the luckiest man in the world.
Man get outta here!!!!+!@ This is a bad jam and I'm just now hearing this joint in all the years I've been a follower of The 5th Dimension!!!!!!!!!! That's plumb nasty!!!!!! I love the vocal dynamics and the whole musicscape is an absolute Masterpiece!!!! Bravo .... I'm going to recut "Up, Up And Away" in a few months and give it a nice Modern urban flavor
The Fifth Dimension we will never see your like again
The exuberance of Marilyn and Billy, their obvious love for each other. One of my favorite classical romance ballads of all time!

A beautiful chorus of angels. This must be what heaven feels like.
Wow--they sang it live and knocked it outta the park!

this song was on the 1971 "Live" album

Billy Davis, Jr. one of the most underrated singers in music history. Had he left and went solo, he would have soared.
He had that Johnny Taylor/Sam Cooke sound going on!

He did go solo!
I agree he is legendary

Both Marilyn and Billy were there earlier in 2022.
One can tell that this was a "live" performance....awesome!!!
powerful music....not many groups can perform live like the 5th Dimension

She always was a K.O.
Because of Marilyn,we tend forget the quality singers the rest of the group were, especially Billy Davies Jr and Florence LaRue
Yes, but they were an ensemble and were a quintet that each was 20% of the group.
A really great song! Amazing voices!!
This is real goosebump stuff!
!000% Total Class, as always, from The 5D -----------MJL, 75 y/o
Love this song! Glad to see the group singing it live
What a great example of their beautiful, talented harmonies. LIVE!!!
Super song. Super group
OMG! What a performance! The BEST group in the history of music! Marilyn has got to be the most talented and most beautiful woman in the world. She was so young! What a doll! Billy you are the luckiest man in the world.
Jorge Washington I agree
Powerful duet...
Yes, a 50-year-old song that sounds so contemporary.
Beautiful
She is just over-blessed!
Thanks for posting. I had never seen this. I wish this was on DVD somewhere.
The song was brilliantly sampled in Lauryn Hill's doo wop (that thing).
Get a room!😉
Yes I agree and that background powerful
I was not having a good start to my week and this changed all of that thanks so much!
you're welcome...I hope your week keeps getting better...thanks for visiting

What a class act.
Classic!
Powerful
Sing it OMG
The harmony powerful the back sound like that song I need you baby
Magic
Man, Marilyn is smoking hot!
You might want to try the new Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. "Blackbird" album.
Marilyn blows away the singers of today, no computer enhancement or syc.
Yes, she blows them figuratively right off the stage.
Luv the DD and Billy Dee
I agree bob
Didn't know Morgan Freeman was such a great singer ;-)
Racist Myopia. No one on that stage resembles Mr. Freeman.
