    Er nurse here. Did a 14 month accelerated program. First job I made 88k, quit after a year experience to be an agency contract nurse. First contract was $60hr, now I'm at $120hr. Pretty freaking great. I do very much directly help people, and that's great, but it did feel like just a job by now. It is definitely pretty cool when you participate in the intense life-saving stuff but most days are fairly mundane but it's still nice to make a difference in someone's life and to be compensated. Going to nursing school and getting this degree was literally the best thing I ever did. It also offers lots of flexibility and I can just basically work when I want to take off when I want. I'm a millennial (1992) and I enjoy my job for the most part. Some days suck, some work orders suck, but overall, it's not a bad gig. The money is good, the work is different daily, and I go to different places to fix commercial kitchen equipment and refrigeration. I'd say I'm "happy" with my job, and the money I make with a 2 year degree from tech school is more than almost everyone I know with a 4 year degree from a university. I work HARD every day (drinking my coffee as I write this before I get to work) and I EARN my money.

      I'm an older Millennial (86). I never really identified with my fellow cohorts and remember going through high school thinking that I had very little in common with the people I was in class with. Teachers were consistently telling us how we would be "world-changers" and usher in a new era of enlightenment. I always thought it was BS. I graduated in 2004, and enlisted so I was immune to the further indoctrination of the common millennial.
      Early on I learned that the mission is the priority. I did my enlistment, got out and went to University as an older man (26), and was immediately keen on the BS being promoted at colleges. More of the frou frou, feels before reals, si se puede, mentality. After graduating I didn't take a year off to go find myself, I moved across the country to secure a job.
      Years later I'm where I want to be. Great job, great life, condo, good car, etc. None of what I do is my "dream" but f all that. I live according to my own playbook, as I always have and it's served me well.

      The first part about the roaming worker isn’t a bad thing, but you’re right when they project that work style onto the idea they are somehow “beating” something wrong with America. Embracing the new digital workplace? Yes. Saving the world or America? No.

    • @john99776
      @john99776 2 года назад +4

      @@adidell Good points and I agree.
      It isn't that I think that digital work is inherently faulty. I think that in most cases it's underutilizing the workers, and that they're kidding themselves that they're actually generating some output, while they're really on a sort of work/balance vacation, trying to 'find their passion'. I agree with Musk when he says that workers had better come back in to the workplace, or decide to "pretend to work someplace else". Musk employs people who actually produce, and he isn't having any of these wanderers' malarkey.
      There are lots of well paying jobs that people will neither get trained for, or take on. That tells you what's going on.
      America doesn't make what it needs anymore, and the east and south are going to start hammering us, deservedly. The only reason I don't listen to Aaron's podcasts is because I have a 140 IQ and have exactly the sensibilities he does. you guys and girls should listen, though.

      Iq is overrated. Consciousness is way more important. Look at the paramecium. There's a reason why Austrian painter banned iq test rubbish

      @@cyberreality7774 Anyone who talks about their high IQ is used to this kind of nonsensical response. It always arrives from the 99+% on the other side.

    I studied education and have made a career of teaching engineers and technicians around the world. It's pretty ignorant to think that because you went to school you know how to educate. That's like saying that because you caught the train your whole life you know how to engineer the train line.

    Jobs can be fun and interesting for the first 6 months and then they become groundhog day. You get a job to earn money, period. Sorry, after you retire, nobody will remember you at where you worked and others will be taking credit for any of you accomplishments. Also, 95% of people never get above entry level management and do shit work their entire life.
