As for the guy who wanted to tie up on the port side of his vessel there is one big advantage. It's much easier to back the trailer down the ramp with the dock on that side where you have better visibility.

I swear I love the boat ramp channel but you really really need a Boyton Dock Blocker channel!!! that is the most fun especially with sea tow kicking back feet up waiting!!..

Mr Guru, too funny... Question, I'm more familiar with South Jersey and there the channels are clearly marked. I have to believe they are clearly marked near the "blocker", correct? What am I missing then? Especially the dude that hit it 3 times, you have to be kidding me??
In fariness, "everything going smoothly" wouldn't make for particularly compelling viewing, so we are almost certainly seeing a condensed summary of chaos in the docks.
People choose a side due to the trailer backing capability or lack there of. I’m guessing. I worked with guys like this. They could only backup using the driver side mirror thus never able to parallel park with a trailer.

Two points: 1) Why do so few captains (?) fail to just turn the engines and simply pull the stern over to the dock with a little throttle? They just drift around sideways like the boat will dock itself. 2) Captains (again ?) don't know to tell people to stop walking around because that just keeps tipping the boat and making control harder. I was wondering the same thing. It seems that not only on this vid but others as well, they always seem to push, pull, drag, and tow over the sand bar and against the current. Only SeaTow goes the opposite direction.
Please explain to me why all of these captain's are making so many mistakes. Running the boat a ground, lines not ready before approaching the dock, unable to back up the trailer. Where I live there is none of this nonsense. Are you not required to have any training where this is.
