I just picked up a 2013 Mazda 3 I touring this weekend and so far, I'm loving it. The ride is relatively comfortable, the power, though not a racecar, is surprisingly quick, and it's fuel efficient.

Cody Polar absolutely, but if your looking for it for reliability and fuel economy, the skyactiv engine is the way to go. The only two things are the auto transmission is a sealed unit and the engine is direct injected, so you’ll have to have the valves cleaned every so often, and use injector cleaner every couple fill ups, but it was one of the best cars I ever owned. Never gave me any issues whatsoever and drove it to 135k miles

Just so you know, in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand, Mazda (and Mazda 3s) are outselling Toyota by a significant margin. They are very popular now (and MUCH better looking than the Civic or Corolla).

We love our 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback. Little fact... the skyactiv 6 speed automatic actually as a single clutch in it! That's why it shifts so crisply in manual mode, this trans is a major upgrade and different feeling than standard automatics with only a torque converter. This trans has a clutch and a torque converter for the best of both worlds. The engine is amazingly efficient, and they keep lightness in mind with the drivetrain and body. Thats how it achieves mid 30's mpg average. We own the 5 door hatch with the white and black cloth interior, moon roof and Bose option, love it!

  • @JackAssJuniorX0

Bought a 2013 skyactiv hatch automatic transmission a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It was fun to drive as is, but with the addition of a Corksport exhaust and intake, as well as an orange virus tune, this car puts a smile on my face constantly. Great car and great community of owners.

Actually, the Honda Civic comes standard with a back-up camera on every model while the Focus Titanium has it as well. We just figured with all these tech toys the Mazda should have it as well. Obviously, Mazda realized that which is why the 2014 model includes it now.

I have to say after spending quite some time in these I have grown to really like the 2nd gen Mazda3. Quality is good, reliability is good and it's not boring to look at and drive. For me it would be a civic, 3, or a focus but in terms of reliability 3 or civic. I just can't stand the staleness and complete dated mess that is the 13 Jetta and corolla. Good review as usual

We have no problem with the plastic in the interior, we just prefer touch points like arm rest pads to be soft padded. We do recall sitting in a 2011 Mazda3 and the armrests were leather stitched. As for the back up camera, you could look at the fact that every 2013 Civic comes standard with one. The Focus Titanium includes it as well. We image the next generation mazda3 will rectify our concerns.

Been renting one... I have a couple gripes: it feels heavier than it should and its dashboard I feel is bloated in that its width is far larger than necessary, but I've noticed as a Valet that most new cars are like that now... The last thing is that I'm 5' 7" and the steering wheel won't come down low enough. I can't rest my arms on my thighs/armrests and have my hand on the bottom of the wheel. So I have to always have my arms up... otherwise powertrain wise and looks wise I like it

I thought the Mazda 3 was the latest iteration of the Protege.
      Am I wrong?
The only things I wish it had are:
      1) Blind spot indicator
      2) Automatic braking (to avoid rear ending someone)
      3) A GPS system
      4) Back up sensors
I have always seemed to have trouble shifting my 2013 into 6th gear.
I almost have it mastered but have still considered taking it in for service before my powertrain warranty runs out.
Quite possibly the car I will drive into my retirement when I next go shopping in 10 years.
That's a while off, so I have plenty of time to research.
That being said, including my current car, my last 3 cars have been Mazdas. The other two were Proteges.
Very few problems or unexpected repairs encountered.

I just bought a CPO 2013 Mazda3 2.5 s Grand Touring, same color & equipped as the one tested "snowflake white". This car is the perfect daily driver, so I can leave my gas guzzling Wrangler Unlimited at home. The seats are comfortable, the engine doesn't act like a 4cyl, as it doesn't have the whiney thrashy sound normally expected. Trans shifts smooth and while Im still on the first tank of gas from delivery, I'm averaging about 30mpg. I have no gripes about the dash except that the steering wheel buttons are lit red while everything else is white or light blue. I'd recommend the car over a Civic/Corolla of the same year.

Yup, still have it. As of today 3/12/2017 mine has only 15300 miles. Love the heated seats during winter, they will almost toast your ass if you set it at level 5. I would replace the oem Yokohamas with something else because they are a little loud for my liking, but then again they are still the original tires mine came with.

For the Honda Civic....the Canadian version does not have the back-up camera as standard, I really wonder if it is standard on ALL models of the Civic.
Dude, you are comparing the Focus Titanium, which would make it a model up....anyway, so the lower trim of Focus doesn't have it, does it?
How about the Corolla? How about the Dart?

If your looking for tech, and fuel saving, and comfort go with focus. If you dont care as much for tech and more driving feel, and handling, mazda all the way. the ford focus in my mind has the best balance between luxurious interior, good sound insulation, great ride quality and brilliant driving dynamics... the only thing that lets it down is its back seat and the powershift transmission which is somewhat jerky, Ford might bring the Escort back, if it comes to US it solves the backseat problem and if the transmission 2 gets better its hard to beat the Ford, no wonder it became worlds 2 nd most sold car

My wife has the hatch model. I'm really not too sold on that automatic. The tranny shifts too early into overdrive. it reminds me of when I drive a 5 speed and shift into third when I should be in second. You have to punch it to downshift, which feels ike the old fashion "turbo lag". Overall, it is a nice car. I've gotten up to 42 MPG. The old fashion way. Dividing the the number of miles driven by the number of gallons pumped. Btw that mpg computer is off.

I think except for space the Focus wins hands down, u told the perfect defects of Mazda, its lightweight and has almost no cabin insulation, cheap feeling plastics and i f u observe closely u will get the interior design a copy of Volkswagen and BMW mixed 2gather, and the ride quality STIFF

If you get a mazda 3, 2.5L is your only logical option (+ only put 91 or 97 unleaded gas into the tank, your engine will always be very responsive doing so - tried 85 unleaded and it seemed like the engine was choking and very under powered #neveragain )
I drive a 2010 mazda 3 2.5L hatchback and see a regular gas mileage of 30-35 highway and 25-32 average city (and yes I speed regularly:D)

As much as I like the previous generation 3s better, I'll still get a current generation in black. FYI, this is known as the Axela in Japan.

funny to read how easily these prissy snowflakes were triggered, and it’s obvious, they couldn’t even listen through the interior section before ranting!! His review is strongly positive overall.

Lol did he just complain about softness of the leather wrapped wheel?

I prefer this interior to the Focus. I think touch buttons look and feel cheap and it looks too busy.

Mazda and civic are extremely close in terms of tech, but the bixenon auto lights and wipers, have the edge on civic. Plus the 3 is better on gas(not by a significant amount but still better). The 3 cost less. What more do you want ? I got a 2013 3 with extended warranty and rustproof, lower than mazda MSRP as advertised by mazda.ca. You could never pull that off at Honda. Screw a honda IMO

The size of this Mazda 3 is just right, don't make it any wider or longer for the next generation.

I feel like he dissed this car's interior a little too hard when this car's interior is still one of the best in class. Only thing that really beats it would be the focus IMO.
