    Guys, at under 30/ 16,000 hz, if you hear some popping or tapping noise then your good, RUclips can’t really play something properly under a certain amount of hz so yeah don’t be scared.

    Please be aware that your device needs to be capable of reproducing the high frequency tones. I thought I was nearly deaf until I tried this with a better device/ speakers/ earphones and found out that my hearing actually works pretty well 😅

    • @Speeder84XL
      @Speeder84XL 2 года назад +2

      They have also made it harder than necessary, by having much lower (-14 dB) volume on the tones, than what they could have (if using the full volume of the soundtrack before clipping). They probably think "the test" shouldn't bee too easy by cranking up the volume - but they forget that most people don't have good speakers that have a flat frequency response all the way up to 19 kHz.
      A bad speaker may have a quite faint output even at full volume at these frequencies, due to it's efficiency dropping so much.

      01491625 0182764125 Really? Ok. Thanks for that info. I didn't even think about the speakers and RUclips encoding. I was wondering because I took a test legit 5 years ago because I could hear this weird noise like a dog whistle or something and it turned out my neighbor had a mouse thing that put out sounds to get rid of them. I was hearing it and it was driving me nuts. We had a blackout and it stopped so I knew it was electrical and I finally asked them if their fridge was against my wall and that's how I learnt of it. They were like WTF! Haha.
      I'm 39 now btw. I think thats more depressing than the hearing "loss". I don't feel over 30 but I am and it can really do your head in. So. Live it the hell up while your still young. I mean, you'll still be young at my age but you won't look it as much and all your friends will have families and be married and it blows.

    I'm 44, I couldn't hear the 15k, but I heard 16k and 17k... the 18k was inaudible (practically), but then I heard something on the 19k again... very faintly though.
    (I heard the "pops" if that's of any indication, which I don't believe)... Also the volumes of 16k, 17k, and 19k that I heard where not close as high as the 8k and 12k range. I believe I have good hearing, but I'll try to find out for sure. ;)
    Now I don't think this tests can be optimally done on youtube, and then it also matters what you're listening with and through what... For example I have good headphones (Shure SRH1840) which I use for producing, mixing and mastering music. But I'm not in my "studio" room, so I have them connected through a BenQ projector, where my macbook is connected thru HDMI.. the projector might not have the best audio output? who knows. I also don't know what volume should this test be taken at... it can change what you hear too... I believe.

    I'm 24 and could hear all of them so either I have excellent hearing or youtube compression did something to it. But from all the comments I'm seeing, the compression results in it being completely inaudible rather than lowering the frequency. I did listen with a very high end set of headphones, Bose ones.

      ***** *The tapping is not the frequency, Its just the clipping of the audio being played because its being played with a really fast attack time so theres a clipping [tapping] sound because the player cannot instantly reproduce the frequency that fast thats why you hear it. It does not count almost everyone should be able to hear it.*

    I also wonder if the idea behind age related hearing loss is somewhat distorted due to the fact that we live in a world where loud sounds-including music blaring over headphones and earbuds-damage our cells in our ears which make it seem like we're losing our hearing "due to age" but to loud noises instead. Humans did not evolve for all of these loud and constant sounds after all!

  • @GeekOfAudio

    This is hokum. 1) Not everybody loses their hearing as they age. While most people do lose the high frequencies eventually, there is no standard trajectory for decline. Many people well into their 70s and 80s have normal hearing. 2) There are no age-corrected norms. Normal is normal, whether you're 19 or 90, so I'd like to know where they got the data claiming certain frequencies indicate an age range. 3) Whether or not you can hear frequencies are HIGHLY dependent on the device you are listening through, and just because you can hear a frequency doesn't mean there's no loss there.

    For all those wondering about the popping in the background, it's due to poorly assembled sinusoidal wave, so it's not RUclips's fault. As for why you can't hear above a certain value even though you're younger, a) either your headphones are weak (not necessarily cheap) and can't process such frequencies, or b) you haven't taken care of your hearing (loud music, etc.) and you won't hear better anymore...

      It depends somewhat on the compression algorithm being used for audio. MP3 cuts out around 16khz due to the way the codec is designed, but AAC and Dolby Digital can go a bit higher.

      It's isn't meant to tick if it was the correct sound, it's either RUclips or this video is broken.
