    I had been wrestling with trying to clean wayward food particles out of the front of these Samsung drawers for a month now. I had the hubby do the disassembly following your video instructions. As others have experienced, one side of the drawer cracked at the bottom but not enough to warrant replacing. After cleaning, the re-assembly was a snap. To prevent the need of disassembling these ridiculously designed drawers, we are going to permanently seal the entire crevice with a clear acrylic caulk. Thank you for posting your video. It was enormously helpful.

My husband looked at me and said, "Oh good dear. You needed that win." Finally! No more shredded cheese stuck in the seam!

    Thanks for taking the time to put the video online. I tried the method in the video, but could not get the door tabs to click out. I also tried hot water without success and managed to crack a little area. I gave up with the screwdriver and thought about it a bit. Finally decided to use my AIR COMPRESSOR. Took a few minutes, but if you direct the compressed air in the area where she puts the screwdriver and run it all around the seams, eventually it will blow all the debris out. Sweet. It worked a treat looks and looks better now. I guess for spilt milk and maybe liquid mess that gets gathered in there then soak in hot water first then blow it out with a compressor - should work fine. Good luck!

    • @christiemadsen617
      @christiemadsen617 4 года назад

      @@WRLAustralia It took 3 tries for my ice maker to work well. Samsung has recently come up with a new computer board to help reset the entire ice maker to keep from freezing up. Because I was under warranty it didn't cost me anything and I'm glad of that. I haven't had any problems, knock on wood, since that board was installed aprox. 5 months ago. All previous attempts to replace the ice maker were only temporarily fixed and the problems would start up again (leaking water when the ice dispenser was utilized and then freeing up in the unit itself). If you continue to have problems I would hope you could recommend to your Samsung repair person a new computer board, if they haven't offered that option already.

    • @mangosorbet2619

      I've found it useful after you pull the ice drawer out to use mugs of boiling hot water inside the ice compartment to melt the ice. You just have to line the plastic with a towel so it doesn't melt the plastic and replenish the mugs frequently with new hot water to melt it. It works even with the fridge doors closed. Hope it's useful! It's not a preventative measure but at least you can use it again.

    Thank you for this video I am so glad to finally get this clean. There are some lessons (thanks to some of the comments below too):
    1. The top strip comes off fairly easily, but I had a tiny piece break. Don't stick the screwdriver in too far.
    2. Before taking off the front panel use a hairdryer to warm up the plastic, in particular the plastic in the bottom corners where the 'tabs' are.
    3. Continuing on the front panel, you will find one side is much harder (ie. "impossible") to dislodge. Don't "stress" the plastic and damage it, go to the other side.
    4. In learning the above I did lose a couple of small pieces of plastic, but nothing affecting functionality or the cosmetics. If you follow the video with the above in mind you may get through undamaged!
    I finally have clean drawers :)

At least, seeing this video, I was confident that it does come apart. Broke off a corner of the bottom piece (where the tab is), but super-glued it back. I do not think the gap is functional, so I cello taped it closed--even the sides going up the drawer. I never want to take the chance of anything getting in there again. Thank You so much. I had somehow gotten pieces of shredded cheese stuck in the front pocket of one of my drawers. Realizing it was impossible to clean (after 24 hours of soaking and rinsing) I thought it would be there indefinitely. I could see the openings on either side of the drawers but did not know how to get it open. It took a lot of effort for me to get the white piece off and I had to slide a larger flathead screwdriver up underneath the lip to allow me to completely get it off. Then I actually cracked one side of the drawer a little bit (at the bottom) while trying to pop the bottom off. But most importantly I cleaned it and got the cheese out ! Thank You for the video, just be careful when popping the bottom off so you do not crack it like I did.

    Nicely done Letha - guessing the design has something to do with air circulation otherwise why would Samsung go the extra step (and expense) of segmenting the front of the drawer that way. Using a narrow flat-head screwdriver and the edge of the drawer as a fulcrum was just the thing. Having your bravery and cleverness as inspiration made the job easy and fast! Thanks:)

    Thanks for the video! Removing the white trim from the top of the drawer is actually not necessary. Its comes apart and goes back together with it being attached.

    Hi Letha W! so pleased to find your video! Thanks for doing this! Maybe it will save a few marriages (below) but at least I can properly clean my drawers! And, I suspect, I will have to be careful to make sure I see the tab I am "clicking". :)

    Hopefully my fix will help some people out. As long as the particles aren't completely stuck, such as a spilled tacky liquid, there is an easier fix to hopefully avoid cracking it. If you can get some compressed air (I used my air compressor) just blow into the gap inside the drawer and below. The particles blew right out with very little effort and no risk of cracking. Thanks to the uploader as this video is very helpful, however at this time I was able to dodge the disassembly.

    I really think this fridge is fantastic... apart from the difficulty of these pernickety cleaning jobs. Thanks so much for your helpful vid, Letha. I must admit I still found this procedure very difficult, and even with your good instructions I still cracked the bottom a bit. I hope Samsung fixes this silly design glitch soon and we can retro-fit these parts. Cheers!

    Just completed the dissemble, cleaning and reassembly as instructed. Unfortunately as with many comments, one side came apart as instructed, while the other side broke. It caused a small piece to pop out that I think is large enough that it will be a candidate for crazy glue to put back in place...I think as most that "perhaps" the key is too warm the plastic drawer first before trying to take it apart? Makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the help in giving us most of the method to take it apart. My wife is delighted to be able to clean the bottom of the compartment....mostly pepper seeds! Bye the way I agree, Samsung products are attractive but have way too many problems. Its one thing after another with this fridge almost annually since we bought it 6 years ago!

      Ha ha got me. It broke on both sides. You couldn't actually show how to "just pop that up" with a camera less than 5 feet away, could you? As in, exactly WHERE did you put in the screwdriver? My drawer is now trashed. Thank you. You win.

    • @ezirb7
      @ezirb7 Год назад +2

      @@juliatillery7805 hardly the video's fault. Samsung has at least 5(that I've seen) different drawer designs, all with terrible, fiddly clips in different spots on plastic that goes through a fair amount of temp fluctuations and gradually gets more brittle. Samsung gives you the choice of breaking them or letting crumbs and mold build up.

    I have a warranty. They kept me on the phone for over an hour and finally the customer service person found this on the web. I still cracked it when I tried to get it off. They're sending me a new drawer, but said it was a one time thing. If I'm under warranty and it happens again, I guess I'll have to sue them for a new drawer. But I do want to thank the maker of this video. She did a great job explaining and showing what to do.

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 3 года назад

      Good luck suing them over an inexpensive part, so it will be a small claims thing that isn't worth the trouble. Because even if you win, getting them to pay up is another issue.

    • @GregAkselrod
      @GregAkselrod 3 года назад

      @@Resist4 I actually cracked my drawers trying to do this today too. Samsung is refusing to send new drawers (I'm outside the 1 year warranty). Getting transferred around to supervisors, but the fact that this can't be cleaned without breaking it makes it a health hazard and ripe (pun intended) for a class action. Message me if others are interested.

    • @Resist4

      @@GregAkselrod people have been doing class actions agains Samsung for years over their refrigerators. They just pay up and keep making them the same crappy way.

    • @GregAkselrod
      @GregAkselrod 3 года назад

      @@Resist4 that's fine, I don't have to buy another Samsung fridge. Just want to be made whole for the one I did buy. (also - class actions definitely do register on their radar and over time are addressed so they can reduce their liability - but like any other product feature, this bug fix has to be costed against the next most important thing on their roadmap. Likely this isn't a big enough issue to redesign existing models and re-tool all the manufacturing etc, but the next time they need to update its design, I bet this will get addressed)

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 3 года назад

      @@GregAkselrod Well, look how far back Samsung has had class actions on their refrigerators, they go way back and nothings changed. I've had two Samsungs and both have had issues. I was able to get them to buy the latest one back, but that took a long drawn out effort on my part. I never want to go through that again. I know you want to believe the issues get addressed, but they really never do. Samsung doesn't want their refrigerators to last more than a few years and sadly I doubt any company does either.

    Thank you for the video. I was able to disassemble, clean, and reassemble both drawers. Like most ‘clip’ connectors the key is to pop it rather than push. At least that’s what I’ve learned replacing the radios and speakers in my vehicles. Again, thanks for making it easy.
