Hi! I’m from Caldas da Rainha! Thank you for showing my city :) just wanted to mention that connection to other cities are a lot easier and cheaper by bus! There’s bus to Lisbon every 30 minutes! Hope this helps 🤗
Does bus go to airport, just bought in beautiful Coto
I spent a week in Caldas this past May and I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave. I spent hours at that same park walking around or just relaxing by the pond and enjoying the view. It was my favorite city in Portugal. I can’t wait to go back.
Another excellent video. Thanks for the tour! It looks like a fantastic small city, particularly the market and the parks. I agree that the buildings are colorful in Portugal. But I don’t think Spain’s buildings are generally grayer. Undoubtedly, Spain is littered with some eyesores. But in Seville, where I live, the historic center is full of colorful buildings, most of which are painted white, blue, red, and various pastel colors. Cádiz, to the south, is also full of colorful buildings, some of which actually remind me of the ones you typically find in Portugal. In short, I think Spain is too big (by European standards) and complex a country to make generalizations about its having grayer architecture than its undeniably beautiful neighbor. Thanks again for the video, and I look forward to the next one! Have a nice weekend!
Hola Stu, many thanks for taking us on a quick tour of Caldas da Rainha. I really enjoyed seeing all the fresh produce at the market.
Enjoy your time in Portugal.
😎
Hi Stuart, love these type of walk round videos. Gives plenty of food for thought for future holidays. Just back from an enjoyable week in Porto. Took your advice and visited Aveiro while we were there and also Coimbra too, both by train from Porto. Train services are cheap, run on time and are a good and much cheaper alternative to hiring a car in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Those heirloom tomatoes are selling for €8/ kilo in Los Angeles. And they are hothouse grown .
Great video Stu, I always like watching while you are walking down these streets, it gives a great insight into other true life places not just the posh tourist spots. Great work.
Caldas is a great little city. I like the proximity to the Peniche area. (I didn't know you had a place in Peniche... my favourite part of the Silver Coast. I'm looking for a place in the Peniche area... close to Atouguia da Baleia, where I lived one winter.
Caldas has everything you need... it's lovely!
As a Portuguese, I would never live in Caldas by my own choice. The weather is incredibly changeable: one day it is grey and foggy, the next day it is sunny and quite hot (I'm talking about the summer). The park is just regular when compared to many other Portuguese parks. There isn't much to do besides going to the shopping centre. The market is the only thing I find unique in Caldas. Vegetables and fruit are grown by those who sell them, that's why they are cheaper and fresher.
The most typical thing in Caldas are the ceramics, where the male genitals are often the main local attraction. I'm sure Stuart saw them on display in many shopwindows!😄
I’ll take note
Lovely video Stuart, I have lived in the Algarve for some 17 years now and sometimes wonder if I made the right (Portuguese) choice of residence - the main attraction of the 'Deep South' is the mild winter. BTW, those tomatoes were inexpensive, I think, because they needed ripening...and the 'pumpkins' were actually butternut squash. Totally delicious fried in olive oil.
Haha! I saw a cooking channel recently where the chef, from New Zealand, called a butternut squash a pumpkin and the comment section went wild. Apparently in NZ and Australia they call them a butternut pumpkin, or just pumpkin.
The parks look very nice Stuart.
They are always so much better when they are maintained and well kept.
Well done for another walk about
Fabo! I love these walk-around videos Stu. Keep it up.
Thanks for taking us to this fantastic city!
You should visit Vilajoiosa on the Costa Blanca for brightly coloured painted houses. :)
Lovely video! Caldas da Rainha looks charming. Right up my alley. Questions: how common is it to find organic produce easily in that faremer's market or in grocery stores?
I have really enjoyed this thank you so much for taking the time to give us a tour.
Hi Stu, as usual a great video, sound and vision from your walkabout is perfect, Caldes del raines looks a great town to visit from Spain, avoiding the normal tourist places, I appreciate your videos for finding somewhere to visit, great work on your part, thanks, Brian La Marina, Alicante
Beautiful town. Thanks for the tour!
What a fab video. Looks like a beautiful place. Can't wait to go back to Portugal.
Your mention of coffee takes me back to my time of living on the border at Melgaco whilst working on a new Hydroelectric Dam on the border with Spain. We regularly took bags of coffee beans to be collected and taken to our Madrid office. Apart from suffering an earthquake of high magnitude I found it not an idyllic place to live. Enjoy your break.
Please ignore the word "not" in penultimate paragraph, I really enjoyed my time spent there. Also so many nearby enjoyable places to visit for weekend excursions including Porto.
Thanks Stu. I like local markets and pay a lot of attention. This year many farmers in Spain planted potatoes instead of melons and it seems it could be the same in that part of Portugal.
10:50 Another box-shaped caravan like the one in Rivas that looked weird. Sort of food trucks.
Conheces a "loiça das Caldas"?
@@anaramos2802 Nao, mas tenho loiça portuguesa. E andorinhas de Bordalo Pinheiro. I'll be in Lisbon this August and Lisbon is the closest place I've been to that part of Portugal
@@joseantoniodavila2752 Now sardines are trendy: colourful sardines, every size, for any purpose. You'll see.
Looks so lovely been to a couple of places in Portugal so nice for a holiday people friendly enough Stuart enjoy 🤗
Very lovely city, and a nice informative video, makes me want to go their. Thank you Stu.
Just been there today, can’t believe I didn’t spot you
Hi Stuart. Very enjoyable video, thank you. Caldas da Rainha certainly has a lot to offer. BUT, the graffiti, truly awful in my opinion.
Beautiful bro..amazing video..you speak so amazing...please do for Obidos too..
Me and my wife bought a pre construction condo in Caldas last year. Its finally complete and we are weighing our options on whether or not to rent it or just move to Portugal. It is a easy process for us as i'm Portuguese national. Been living in Canada since 1990. Caldas really is beautiful with all the services and not too far from the beach which we like.
Hello! I’d like to know how much approximately is a condo with 2 or 3 bedrooms in Caldas, thx!
@@guillaumeg.beaulieu3326
We paid €190,000 for a 2 bedroom condo and it’s close to the Colegio Rainha D Leonor private school.
Our condo is on the last floor and has 2 levels. The top floor is a finished attic and allows you to have an extra bedroom or family room. Looking now on Idealista we see a regular 2 bedroom brand new condo for approximately €230,000. These are one level condos only and not on the last floor of the building either. I think we got lucky and bought at the right time!
My husband and I are planning to move to Caldas by late ‘23… We will be looking to purchase a place like yours because housing prices are skyrocketing!
@@marthanix7773 yeah. Cost of housing has gone up in Caldas. There might be a break soon as interest rates are on the rise but I feel it will be short lived. We were lucky to make the purchase last year.
@@ivalterbaptista2305 we were going to follow the advice “rent for a couple of years before you buy”, but now it feels wiser to buy up front so we are not priced out of the market 😱
Really enjoyed that, thanks!
Wow, you have unhid a small secret and a little gem nobody knows (at least I thought) :) I absolutely adore Caldas cause not only it's just 25 minutes from Nazare but cause it looks exactly the way you described it. I was there 2 weeks ago for the last time. What a pity we didn't meet in person. Have a pleasant stay in Peniche !!!
Nice, informative video!
Can I get you to expand a bit on the weather? How warm does it get in the summer and how cool in the winter? What are temperatures like inside houses and apartments on winter nights, and how do people warm them?
Also, how would you describe the style of coffee there? Dark roasted? Light roasted? Traditional Italian? Something more modern?
Thanks!
Very informative video..........in my opinion.
Muchas Gracias!!!😄
I've met several people living in Caldas da Rainha, and each was looking to move away. I think this is one of those cities where the magic "wears off" after a while.
Curious as to why you are critical. Very interested in your outlook.
@@johncrowley2607 I am not critical, just passing on what I've heard. I think the town is "too small" for some people. My friends say they are "the youngest people that live there". So maybe it's great if you want a slow pace of life. Lisbon being 1 hour away is not that convenient.
@@the_ikiru You are talking to a native NYer, born & raised. Been there done that. I now live in the Catskills near a town of 30,000 which is big enough. Winters here are too cold and fraught with climate change issues. need to make a move to milder climate free of taxes on everything, everywhere....
I think you're right, that's what I felt when I spent some holidays there.
Sadly spoiled by graffiti, like a lot of Portugal, but it looks like a pleasant town nonetheless.
Most graffiti I’ve seen n anyplace n Portugal I’ve been to
Great video! Since you live in Peniche, would ever consider moving to Caldas Da Rainha or is Peniche a better place to live in your opinion?
Stu I think it's time to make the move to Portugal. With the tax situation in Spain, and you seem to love it there.
Hi Stu, only been to The Algarve in Portugal. There seemed to me that there was a lot of graffiti about where you were? Did you notice this whilst walking? Mick.
Still watching, Stu. Just been very busy settling in on the family ranch, trying as I am physically able to work on a long punch line of cleaning and house maintenance for my mom and my brothers since I returned. I've had a bad spell physically for the last couple of months so it had been slow progress, but I've been on the upswing the last couple of weeks. Regardless, trip preparations are being made, and the itinerary is firming up for sometime around mid August. I probably won't make it up to Caldas this time around, but that general area is on my list of places to visit in the coming years. After planned detours to Vinaroz and Madrid, I'm heading south to Cadaz, Rota, Faro, with points in between. Probably won't stay as long as I had originally planned, depends on financial reserves and what business pops up that needs to be addressed Stateside, but I plan on staying as long as my budget and the Spanish Government will allow me. Hasta Pronto!
Only been to Porto and Braga which is a truly beautiful city
Braga is lovely, ancient and modern at the same. Lots of young people studying and living there.
@@anaramos2802 actually from the walkabout in Caldas , I really couldn’t see anything special about the place and graffiti everywhere
@@harriettt9857 graffiti is extremely common place in all towns, cities in Portugal. As matter of fact there is some organizations in Lisbon that actively work with the youth of the city to curb the practice. It is a very piece meal work and takes an eventual mind changing / cultural attitude. I, too find it an eye sore and would love to see an eventual decrease.
We are thinking of living in Caldas for at least have of the year. What is the health care like in the town?
Are there opportunities to access building materials. Our nephew owns property in Caldas.
My dad was from Caldas and last name was Caldas
'Patrimonio' would be cultural heritage rather than assets in this context?
Always love the sidewalks little black and white squares very nice . Shame about the graffiti, try to visit a local cemetery.how people treat the dead says a lot about a place.
Seems to be a flat city unlike cuenca which can knacker you out when walking.. . Tony cuenca
Please tell me which is the best city for living with the family???
The royal family is still a feature of the best gossip magazines, sometimes even in the Spanish Hola.
Indeed? I can assure you that Portugal is and will be a Republic for many years to come. Ask any Portuguese the names of the royal family and that person will not know them. Hola and other magazines of the kind are what I call 'hairdresser's magazines'
Hi Stu! Is it necessary to have a car when living in Caldas? Is it a walkable city? Thanks in advance for any response!
Very walkable city for day to day living. We walk everywhere when we visit. My parents live there and walk everywhere within the city but do have a car for further out trips for doctors appointments or other business.
How do I get this in portugal. I’m from the Uk but now live there ?
May I ask why you live in Madrid when it’s so obvious you love Portugal best?
I have followed Spain Speaks since the beginning, with some pauses, and many times I felt he was not that fond of Portugal. Did you watch his last video on Peniche?
@@anaramos2802 I also got the impression that Portugal was his favourite ! So maybe he likes neither 🤔
Hello! Stu …I loved your beautiful clip gives a lot of information but how can I connect with you would like to speak to you more if possible to know more as I plan to move to Portugal in the near future.. your reply will be very much appreciated .. Regards .. Mark DeSouza
Haha a positive article when In Portugal 😂
It's a shame there's so much graffiti on the properties! Let's what looks like a nice city down
In Lisbon there are graffitis everywhere which is a shame given that the city is one of the most beautiful of the world. Porto is cleaner, I hardly seen any graffiti.
@@_juan.joao_ what about Aveiro? Just wondering thx
@@mariapierce2707 unfortunately didn't have the time to visit Aveiro...I can tell about Coimbra which had some graffitis here and there

Have you had some good bacalao yet?
Nice place.
Better place for an American to move to Spain or Portugal what’s your take? Btw I speak Spanish and English fluently so I feel Spain would be the better choice but just curious
Dont let anyone influence you -- get the feel of it, the choice is yours & yours alone

Great city.
Doesn’t sound like too much wrong with it! Thanks
Was that Hose a or hose b watering the park Stu??😁😁😁😁😁
Lol
Cant believe you did a video about Caldas da Rainha without showing the piece of art most representative of that city which is the "caralho das Caldas".
Again graffiti, what is with that? doesn't anybody care? I don't think I would live in an area where graffiti is everywhere... I also don't like garage dumpsters on the street 7x24x365...
So Caldas its not for you. Also dumpsters are clean everyday, and they have fixed spots, you dont run against any.
Go to ponte de sor 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I will give you a 🍪
