Pajama sharks tend to feed on cephalopods, there’s a neat fact I didn’t know! I suppose it makes sense, they’re one of the small bottom-dwelling sharks and cephalopods tend to be fairly abundant in the areas they’re found I’ve also seen them go after octopi in nature docs and even Simpsons
Most sharks give live birth and the whole pregnancy is a horror show (they end up with hundreds of baby sharks in them, once they get big enough in the mother they starteating each other as there isn't enough space or nutrientsto go around, which every one manages to surviveand eat the others the mother gives birth too, imagine having 60 fetuses in you while your pregnant and they are start fighting and killing each other until only 1 is left). Others lay eggs and it's less of a horror show.
@wolfybear7129 it's gotta be painful and it's both horrific and lines up perfectly with how sharks are. Sharks are made up entirely of teeth and cartilage, but also behave like curious puppies who love belly scratches. Edit: the only exception to the puppy dog rule is the bull shark. They are the most violent shark species, the most territorial (they constantly change their territory so no one knows where it is at any given moment) and they are extremely impulsively violent and will actively hunt human unlike other shark species
Pyjama sharks (Poroderma africanum) are one of the species of catshark called Scyliorhinidae. Its scientific name "africanum" is found also in the coastal waters on South Africa. They can reach the depth of 100 m (0.1 km) particularly found in kelp. They feed on crustaceans, cephalopodians and small fish.Mothers hide their babies in kelp, making it safe from predators.
the accents make these videos so much better. also with the dialogue, you can tell that english is the creators second language. His choice of words is not like the average Americans and it makes it pretty unique. not to mention the amazing editing and directing.
I remember when I was a little kid and we’d go to the beach, it would be littered with mermaid’s purses. My dad used to insist they belonged to actual mermaids and we should put them back in the water so they could find them again. The joys of being a gullible 6 year old
I love pajama sharks!!!!!! They have terrible eyesight and rely mostly on their sense of smell- they use their noses to wiggle under rocks to reach octopi. If you have Netflix there's a film/documentary called "My octopus teacher" and it's very very cool!!!
When threatened, pajama sharks roll up in to a ball, using their tail to protect their face. If you’re not an octopus or squid, these cuties aren’t very intimidating. But if you _are_ a cephalopod, I’m sure they’re scary. They don’t have the sharp, jagged teeth of large sharks; their teeth are very small, flatter, and cusped, making them great for grasping slippery, wiggly prey. But their teeth are not great at cutting off chunks of their prey. The way they solve this problem is by getting a hold of their prey (or part of it), and doing spins that are very much like a crocodile’s/alligator’s death roll. This way, if they grab a crab, for example, they can force the crab to let go of the sea floor and get it up where it’s easier to crush it. If they chase an octopus in to a small rocky crevice, all the shark has to do is get a good grip on one of the octopus’s arms. Then he does a death roll and the octopus stays in his hiding spot, but the shark gets the arm as a meal. And for such a small shark (3ft/1m), the arm from a large octopus could be a decent meal.
I choose to believe octopus became a great parent to this baby shark and they had an epic coming of age moment where they protected their octopus parent from a different shark
Now I want a movie where an octopus accidentally adopts a baby pyjama shark and raises it, but then bio mom comes back and the kid goes on a existential crisis about being a born predator of their parent’s species… lovely, haha ❤
