  • Audi has invested more than one billion dollars in a new factory in Mexico to build the next Q5 SUV and, despite having only just been unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show, we travelled to the car’s back yard to test drive a pre-production version. Our journey took us from swanky beach resort to dusty prairie land to an iconic rock-and-roll landmark, and we got to know the car pretty well along the way. Should rivals from BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar be worried? Watch now to find out…

    Note to Auto Trader... You were not in the middle of a Prairie when you began the off road segment. Minor faux pas in an otherwise brilliant video. Cheers!

    I'm always amazed by some of the "mean" comments post on these RUclips videos ..... so uncalled for. Anyway thanks for the fun review .... the British dry humor is always a treat. I've spent some time in that part of the world , incredible weather and very relaxing. I am hoping that Audi can put their diesel scandal in America behind them, because I want this car or the Allroad with the 3L TDI engine ! Lots & lots of us waiting Audi ... trust me on this one. :) cheers.

    On your comment about fuel economy... the new A4 has more horses and torque versus the outgoing model and returned 1 mpg higher than outgoing model... the new q5 should show similar results...

      You are nagging, German cars do not make a massive change to their designs, that is why they keep good resale values, Audi designs are class leading, everyone practically copies them.

      Eric Von I HIGHLY doubt it since the people assembling them are trained to do so to AUDI's standards, otherwise they wouldn't have been hired. U ignorant idiot

      Boots N Pants Bro, everything I bought that was made in Mexico failed within months. Yes, I mean EVERYTHING! The only stuff that are still working are light bulbs. So no, I wont buy a Mexican made car.

      @israelsaldivar1725 7 лет назад +5

      Boots N Pants as you said it, we were all trained in Germany (I was there for a year) and our quality standards are the same as other Audi assembly plants, also all the engineering was designed in Germany. Mexico is still building Lincoln and Cadillac vehicles and USA is still buying them, I haven't heard that they complaint so much about the quality 🤔 anyway, hope you people believe in our workforce, believe me we pay a lot of attention even to small details

    Antoine-- too many people are 'badge concious'. Have you driven the Santa Fe ? Have you driven the Q5 ? Sit back and really look at what Audi have done here. They think because the last model sold well for over 8 years, this is going to do the same no matter what they do. It looks dated- look at the dash with that stuck on screen- looks the same as the old model - according to some reviewers it is not a very good drive with harsh suspension - not the best room for passengers in the rear - very very long options list that other cars have as standard. Are you really going to notice this car passing you on the road and say wow there goes the 'new' Audi ? It is a bland make over or re- hash like they ran out of ideas. It is nothing special compared to other cars in this segment. I was going to buy this model, but have changed my mind now that it looks so much like the old model. In the UK the Santa Fe Premium is £36700 and loaded. The Audi S line Plus special edition is £38720.

      While there's nothing wrong per se with the Santa Fe it doesn't come into the same league as this new Q5 and quite frankly it's not supposed to either. By all means though buy a Santa Fe, you'll be happy enough particularly for the money (that said I think they're verging on being too expensive for what they are) but they aren't going to remotely compare to the Q5 for quality and refinement as you would expect. A friend of mine just bought a new updated top of the line Santa Fe and took us for a spin the other day, was good but interior was tidy but uninspiring, functional but nothing special. Bit of a Korean Toyota you might say, side not the paint on it was bloody awful

  • @vtechead1
    @vtechead1 8 лет назад +1

    Too expensive compared to others in this class. Huge options list of things other manufacturers fit as standard. Think of the fun you will have using the hand pump height adjustment for the front seats -- yup - not electric unless you empty another section of your wallet. That dash screen is an afterthought and a joke. It looks dated before it hits the streets. A bland and unimaginative re- hash of an aging model which still looks old. BMW, Merc, Evoque, Discovery Sport and even the Santa Fe Sport all come fully loaded for less than this Audi. Think long and hard before choosing your car. Cheap labour in Mexico and expensive cars requiring expensive options to match cheaper rivals. A missed oppertunity by Audi to produce a great best selling car like the old model was -- times up, it's had it's day.

      Donny Deer q5 is 20k more expensive than the santafe, maybe grand santafe is on the same niveau but the grand is too big so it makes no sense. Dont compare and audi with an hyundai please.
