More consistent practice, not just playing. Having 4 kids makes this challenging.
Finish what I start. It's haunting to look back how many songs I started and abandoned. So my goal is to learn full song.
Man I just fell in love with classical guitar but i am a little scare of the fact that i am 28 years old and it's too late to master this beautiful instrument.

I just discovered your channel and this is only the second video I've watched from you, but still I'm pretty sure you are gonna be one of my very favourite person on youtube. Having a tribe isn't something I have typically thought of having, but after this video and 2020 I really miss being at the university surrounded by my peers, being inspired by them, and working together to grow. It is difficult being isolated and being the only musician in the house. It is nice to have good friends and family to support me. Thanks for the video! Happy New Years

Great! To answer your question of what guitar community, I would have to say it is the Beyond the Guitar Patreon community which includes a Discord channel. I love to join the BTG Society monthly online meetups as various guitarists play their own pieces and some of your arrangements. There is both a gentleness and appreciation of each other in the community and a drive toward excellence in pursuing music. I love the music. Thanks so much!

Very thought provoking commentary. Admittedly, I'm lucky that I know a professional guitarist who's won a gold record that I get to converse with often and study with which has helped me grow as a guitar composer so your advice about finding a "tribe" is beneficial. Great motivating speech!
Do you have a video on nails? Or would you consider doing one?
Seems like a seperate skill entirely to maintain and properly file them for playing but is seemingly essential. Gives me plenty of trouble anyway

I would really like to join arrangers academy, I just don't know if I'm ready, I own a few guitars but none are classical, I just don't know if I should join!

You don't need a classical guitar. Any type of guitar will work, we just focus on the fingerstyle approach to playing. As far as not feeling ready, you don't need to be an advanced player or have any prior music theory knowledge to join the Academy. I just recommend 6 months to a year of prior practice in fingerstyle technique, so you have the basics under your fingers and can focus on developing your arranging skills. Well done, Nathan. Thanks for bringing another important message to us from a non-musical source, like you did with Free Solo. My problem is, I don't know if my tribe truly exists. I play what is called a Classical Guitar (don't get me going about how that is a gross misnomer). I play a small number of classical pieces that I truly love, but spend most of my time with instrumental arrangements of folk and popular music -- current examples including Water is Wide, and Let It Be. I'm a member of our guitar society, but am definitely an odd duck in that pond. I've gone to and enjoyed "fingerstyle" workshops and seminars, but with a nylon string guitar, I'm kind of out in
left field there. My only arranging occurs when I find good basic arrangements of a tune, and I need to do some minor variations of the arrangement in order to have a less repetitive performance. I'm 75, and have played guitar since I was 13 and my goal is simply to stay in it and enjoy the beauty of playing music. Where is that tribe?

I don't think you have to fit an exact mold to fit in with a certain tribe. I can grow and feel like part of a community with other classical guitarists who only play traditional repertoire, even though I don't fit in exactly with that side of the classical guitar world. Also, we have more in common with "fingerstyle" guitarists than you might think, even though we play a slightly different instrument. I would keep looking for those types of communities and focus on the culture of that community more than the specific details in which you differ. If the culture suits you, and you get along well with the people there, that may very well be a good fit for your tribe even if you have some differences in approach
