The thing with Chanel is when they do a “simple” fragrance with simple ingredients it turns into a masterful blend. Dior is more hit or miss because they are trying to appeal to a mass audience still. Chanel does not try to please everyone with the exclusifs because they are meant to be more artistic. Another reason Chanel does not discontinue any despite not selling the best. I just wish Dior would take this approach more with the prive line. This is just my personal opinion/speculation on why Dior doesn’t get the same recognition as Chanel in the hierarchy.
@@daniell5740 umm Le lion and Comete are both masterpieces and are by far better than anything released in the past 5 years from designers. The only thing that comes close is Shalimar millèsime Iris to me.
@@daniell57401932 is exceptional, so is Le Lion even though I prefer Shalimar. More importantly, it’s not about how much you release. Look at Hermes. They release so little yet they’re all levels above Dior’s generic stuff.
I do love the note of both Fig leaf and fruit, two of my favourites are Houbigant Figuier Noir and Matieres Libres Patchouli Figue, Dior's Dune kinda sits at the back of my shelf after smelling these two....I'll give this a try next time I pass through the local boutique, but haven't acquired anything other than a sample from the Privee line up since Feve delicieuse. Thanks for the review Marc, always a comprehensive review with the right amount of detail 👍
Very good, critical, review of the sample. When discussing the scent profile you stated that you prefer "more vivid figs," and gave two examples. I couldn't quite catch the examples you gave and the closed captioning didn't help. Would you kindly provide a few examples of what you identify as "more vivid figs." Thank you.
I had a chance to smell it from the bottle in a Dior store but I haven’t tested it on my skin so I was wondering what your experience with it was. I have Philosykos which I like but the longevity on my skin is pretty poor, 2-3 hours at most, both EdT which I own as well as EdP which I tried in a store. I’ll spray this on me the next time and see how it compares.
Cheers Marc , more a Chanel Exclusive leaner than Dior especially of the later/ newer Dior’s offerings, like most people I suspect, loved your take and I really like the older designer Dior fragrances a lot. Cheers buddy have a good one ✌️🙏👍
I really love Mr Kurkdjian's creations, he has that magic touch that makes very classy, sophisticated fragrances but I'm still waiting for that magic to appear in a new Dior fragrance, I will even make it, against my will, my first purchase from LA COLLECTION PRIVÉE if it's good enough. I know it takes time and I'm not a person that lives by expectations but I got carried away when he was chosen as the new Dior Perfumier and to make it worst all the noses I trust haven't say the magic words: This new Dior is to die for, amazing!!! So I guess we will have to wait a little more... Thanks for the Samplin' Marc!!!
I'm looking foward to when he does his first men's fragrance for Dior. I like his men's fragrances more than Demachy's. MFK men's fragrances are more playful and casual. So I'm interested to see how his first dior men's will smell, because all of their fragrances are serious and formal. As for his Women's and Unisex fragrances, I have no interest at all. Don't understand why guys pay expensive prices to smell like a girl?
I kinda had the same impression. Certainly not a testament to Francis' skill though. He does what he's told and I think he does a great job with what he has available. 💚 Besides his cut, it's the higher ups that decide the budget and pricing. Although I'm sure he has some experience there too with his brand.
I agree Dior needed to come out swinging versus just launching something safe. Follows the recent media template (don’t do anything risky, steal from a safe list of greatest hits). Zzz (thanks for the review)
I knew you’d at least think this is okay because of the fig but I felt this was super simplistic, too safe and a shockingly poor first showing for Monsieur Kurkdjian.

Yay! I know this one hasn’t had a lot of appreciation on the socials but I actually love it! Great to see you talk about this one Marc!

…i was one of the 17, and thoroughly enjoyed this Marc, thank-you very much…though i always expected the Riviera to smell much differently…

I would suggest sampling 'New Look'; the newest release from La Collection Privee. I think Francis redeems himself with that fragrance.
Not even close

I have to try this fragrance

I see Dior I'm all in .
I had no idea this was his first. What a disappointment. Is he sending a message? This is confusing to say the least
Spot on objective commentary from Robes08.
Pedestrian.
I ended up using it in the room diffuser at the Saint-Donat chalet.
Respectfully.
