You’re one of my inspirations in filmmaking and creating content. Thanks for all the work you put in for us!
Joao Escher I 100% agree
I’m 14 and I’m working on a project right now. Sometimes I get down because of my age, people doubt me and what I can do. Your videos always help and inspire me. Thank you!
Hey man! You just gotta keep going! I know its difficult to get specific things due to age but theres always so much more that you can do! You just need to trust that in the long run, it'll all turn out the way you want it. Or at least close to what you wanted.
I am 14 too and today I was supposed to do a big shot with actual explosions and my two actors said they could not film last minute I have a RUclips channel called challenger studio and I am trying to grow it and the setbacks are tough
Ayo bruv I’m 14 too check out some of my stuff at my channel, I’m mad proud of it and dawg dont let anyone get u down I recently got my first REAL client for a music video at the age of fourteen so nothings impossible just gotta keep grinding everyday keep it up man
I'm 41 and I do the same :-D
As someone pushing 40, let me tell you that the "don't let anyone get in your way" advice is 100% truth. I deferred my ambitions in order to support my spouse's dreams. The promise was always that mine would come next, but that promise just didn't come true. Now I have to work twice as hard to make up for lost time. The more you bust your ass now, the easier your twenties and thirties are ultimately going to be. The confidence you build by pushing through relentlessly after you fail over and over is what's going to draw people to you and open opportunities for success that otherwise would never have come your way.
Yo! Darius, I was kinda stressed about my project taking so long to get off of the ground. Then I saw the video and the back pocket idea thing inspired me. I'm now developing a shorter film to work on during the summer while I get all of the pieces in order on my larger project. Keep Up the Good Work!
U 2 your vid will rule
Very smart wish you all the best with your short project and the larger project to
Recently found you through Austin McConnell and you're probably my favorite Film RUclipsr now. Keep up the great work!!!
Hey Darious! I am only 12 but you have been an inspiration for me as well as filmRiot. This video was very helpful. :) I have learned a lot from you! Keep up all the great content!
Yo Wesley!!! I'm 14 and also a filmmaker, wassup bro
I’m 12 too! Great video d4darious!
I’m 14 and would like to be a filmmaker as well! Great video!
Im 19 and also learning film making. Wassup kids!!
That's so cool guys! I am glad there are other young filmmakers too!
Love your energy and talent. Truly creative. Thanks for these vids!
Why would anyone unsubscribe from awesome channel like this love you bro bro I was a demonstration in Santa Ana California I got jacked up by Bean bags pepper balls and rubber bullets
Damn, I needed this. Dying to get an indie feature going and this is the extra boost I needed to keep pushing forward. D, you the best.
you got this! i believe in you!
Alli Lutes Thanks so much!
Wish you all the best with it
Jonathan Boyd cheers! 🙌
I was supposed to make a "small budget" short film for my 1st semester at Film School and then we had to cancel it thanks to the virus. Thank God I had two "pocket ideas" and I'm now omw to film both of those films!
After all, as you said "what's defines you is what you do at your lowest point". Thanks for the videos man, they've helped me to move on :")
Young Bruh, you handled that opening the right way! I have been struggling on how I was going to address it. Thanks for standing tall.
Thank you Brutha 🙏
Hey, I'm a 16 year old student who just started a film club and is getting really deep into film. Love your stuff, very inspiring and helpful.
You and a select few of other RUclipsrs show me that I can tell the stories I want, even if I don't have $200 million to waste.
I spent my last college vacation in February to prepare all what I needed it to film some projects with some college friends and the corona ruined everything. I felt like I wouldn't have an other opportunity to shot this project and I got kinda depressed. Buuut now I am working on some simpler project to do until I'm able to get back to uni.
Thanks for your words. You are an inspiration.
Great advice. To answer your question...No, I am unstoppable! Thanks
Lol. I love it!
Yeaapp that short Ive started planning last year is on stop... But i did one pocket project and i am currently in another one. In a little amount of time i will be able to work on my main project. Hopefully this summer.
Nice Filetric.
I had a short film written and budgeted to be shot in early March that had a cast of ten people. After everything shut down during the pandemic, I ended up directing a different film with just me and my wife and I am actually pretty proud of the end result. It's funny how limiting resources seems to bring out more creativity. Thank you for another inspirational video! Love all the work you've done for this community.
Thanks for this...knowing what you said to be true, and then hearing it from someone "in the know", makes all the difference. Appreciate it dude, I needed the boost!
This is a message I needed to hear today and not for filmmaking reasons💛
Also yes, 2020 I was going to shoot an indie cosmic horror film called Confide and had already started preproduction. Just gotta push it to 2021 instead
Yo i swear u are the gift that keeps on giving - love ur vids man. And i hope stay pretty ends up going to plan
Man I have had this problem FOREVER. Between time with a newborn, work and other projects all my short film stuff falls through. I just try to trick myself into writing dialogue or scripts and go from there. Great video man!
Patricia here, with 5DayDeal. I was reviewing partners previous 2020 promotional efforts. Great to see this video again. Excited to have you in the mix for 2021!
Thanks for putting this message out, D. I've stuttered my whole life and help lead a nationwide stutterers helping stutterers organization. Setbacks, failure... it's all just a springboard to a FUTURE success that we just haven't had yet - as long as we learn from it and keep moving forward. Great stuff, man! 👊
Due, in large part to your content - this was the year I was finally going to get over my fear and get off my ass to write & shoot my first short film. After getting it written and starting pre-production the world fell apart, so now I'm here just doing anything I can to keep the creative momentum going.
I’ve always loved your content, bruh bruh! I remember about 3 years ago when I made my first short/parody video after binge watching your channel for a week. I sent you a link and saw that you actually watched it and left a comment (it went on to get over 200K views too!) which meant the world to me! 🙌🏽 You actually inspired me to go on and start my own separate tutorial channel as well about two years ago, and I’m coming up on 10K subs now! Your videos have been SO helpful for me in my filmmaking journey, and I just wanted to say thank you for all you’ve done on RUclips! Oh, and I loved Unsound too! 👍🏾
Just watched one of your vids (on recording limits) good job and nice comment for Darius. He is a great educator and inspiration for sure.
Peace.
Thanks so much, Tobias! 👍🏾 I love how Darius has always shown so much behind the scenes from his experience because that’s hard to find. A lot of people talking about filmmaking without much to show for it, but Darius has so many projects that he shares (not to mention his feature film)! Thx again!
I studied your videos like crazy and they became the base of my technical knowledge. They gave me the confidence to give it a shot and do some shorts, I was planning on shooting my most ambitious project to date before we all got put on lockdown, now several months in I'm trying to get it back in motion by scheduling online rehearsals and seeing where we can go from there. I hope you get your project back in motion.
Thank you John-john
I think you have your stuff more together than 99.79% of the folks on RUclips. Whatever happens, you are going to succeed big in whatever way that means to you. You have the wisdom and the guts. Also, your delivery is great.
Just purchased the bundle and also saw your "Making of Unsound" doc. Truly amazing brother! Also, I'm retired Air Force, so Hoorah and Aim High!
Thanks for making this video, it really helped!
I had a music video shoot planned for my friend's band a week after the pandemic hit and we were forced to postpone. We had a location booked, actors casted, crew hired, equipment reserved all of that. But now we have to wait and hopefully get a chance to film in the fall. This time not being able to make anything did give me a chance to write and rework ideas in my head so that we are even more prepared the day of the shoot and not running around wasting time. Keep up the good work man!
Always great insight! Thanks for the inspiration!
I found D4D through your channel, IIRC, so it's always a nice bump to see you here in the comments. :)
Been creatively stumped the past two months and yesterday night I finally came up with a page and half. Not much but something. Then this video popped up so now I'm even more inspired. Thank you.
had a big school project I was working on and terribly overwhelmed with. Our first shoot date was the end of the week where everything started to shut down. Haven't touched the script since then but thinking I need to start trying to pull a team back together. Your comment about doing it even when you don't feel like it hit my hard. I needed that.
Right now I just want to take a moment to thank you Darious. I've watched a lot of channels that post content like this but out of all of them yours by far has been the most helpful. From videos that have taught me new things about film making to tips that have been life savers your videos have always been helpful. I'm going to be filming my first ever film (a short film) in a few days and I'm going to be keeping all of your advice in consideration as I do. Sorry about your short film being postponed as a film maker I feel bad for you. I hope you eventually get to finish it and I can't wait to watch it. Also sorry for the novel, I had a lot to say.
I am in my final month at LA Film School and had to scrap my original final project, which was going to be my first full effort short film. I instead made a promo for a friends RUclips show. It wasn't what I initially wanted to do, but in the end I am proud of the project. Thank you.
You are great - very motivational. It's hard as an artist - you put your heart, sweat and soul into a project and it flops or the client doesn't like it. You have to be resilient and persistent for sure!
Bro, thumbs up to you. I always show your content/info to my team for inspiration and tutorials from you, greatly help them, we are a smal crew but we are always excited to try out you tips. It helps us improve our skills as well. More power to you bro! Much love and respect!
It’s pretty bad when that happens, I was in the production or my first short film and then the pandemic happened, so we had to stop it. Altought I got dismotivated with what happened, I tried to transform that into motivation to do other projects in quarantine, so I produced one short by myself and now I’m editing another one. They are not in the quality I was hoping to achieve in the first one, but it’s serving as a learning experience for me. Thanks for this video, man. You ate a big inspiration to me :)
Thank you for posting this before COVID I had a short film called flu season and well this all started slowly and my project was set to be filmed the day after the world was shut down.
Thanks a lot for this video man. You've helped me out on a number of projects since I started making short films two years ago. My back pocket project at this point I guess is getting deeper into freelancing. I started doing product commercials for social media ads. It's not perfect, but there's a lot of lessons to be learned from that. Thanks again for everything bro. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you Darius. I really needed to hear this rn. I know this video is old, but it's the right time for me to have watched it. Thank you.
I am an actor and have been for about 20 years. I certainly am not rich nor famous, and I have dropped out of the game, a few times. I keep coming back for more. About three years ago, circumstances prevailed which kept me from acting, so I decided to write a film script, produce the film and act in it. Two and a half years later, I ran out of money, lost a lot of key people and realized that I did not have the knowledge, experience or fortitude to carry on. I handed the project over to my director, who also is a producer and we shot the film this past summer. I have to say that through all the postponements, expenses and disappointments, I learned quite a lot. Now, I have just purchased a video camera and will be doing some short (very short) films. Baby steps. What I had tried before was far too ambitious for a first project.
I deeply appreciate the clips that you put together on RUclips, and this one is most encouraging. I will press on with my acting and film making. Thank you so much.
Ps. I see some comments about age being a factor for success. I have yet to be successful but I keep trying and I will be 70 in January.
Great video. This gave me motivation to work on my short film. The lockdown started right when I was in the middle of shooting my short film.
The lockdown halted a project idea of mine with a relatively large cast for a short film and moderate budget. Instead, I decided to shoot one all alone in my room with no budget. Working with limited resources can sometimes be more informative and turn out better than what you planned! Love the videos, you’re a huge inspiration! Keep it up!
Thank you for commenting James.
Yes. Yes and Yes Yes!!!. From beginning to end. I needed to hear this today. Thank you so much.
Hey D... love the video. Same thing happened to me.. had a 10 page short film i was about to shoot. Then the covid happened ... so now im making the whole film in 3d. Fully animated film . Mind u i had very little experience in that area before. So its been a learning experience. I have about 7 weeks on it now worming 7 days a week on it. Im thinking its gonna take a year to finish. Since im doing everything on it. But im becoming a better film maker as a whole because of these new challenges. And even turned the making of into a nightly live twitch stream. Been awesome. Stay awesome yourself D .. always great content sir.
I like your hustle Brutha 🎥
Thank you for that opening. I've learned so much from you about this process and It is nice to know where your heart is. I follow you because you are informative, entertaining and these personal moments show me that you are also a human who does not cover the sun with his hand.
Thank you Ray-ray
Darius , Thanks for the pep talk. I really needed this!!!
I am so greatly appreciative for your channel! The content is real, helpful, and inspiring. Thank you for continuing to be transparent and sharing your experience.🤓
Thank you so much for the incredible videos you make you have helped me a lot. I am also so happy you made an acknowledgement about everything happening right now I've been anonnyed at how larger you tubers not mention it and act like everything is as usually. You are an incredible you tuber so keep making awesome stuff
Hi Darious, I have been following your RUclips channel since you have started. I found all that you have said is very valuable and big fan of your excellent work. It would be honor to be part of your future production in any capacity and learn. Please keep on going. Thank you!
i'm happy that i got rid of my self doubts. i wrote a screenplay for a shortfilm and asked two producers so far and it seems like they rejected it. i'm gonna keep writing to other producers who are not busy at the time and who wanna work with me and other people. i'm never gonna give up even for that one screenplay. i'm willing to sacrifice just to make that one shortfilm because i believe in it and after i'm done with that, i'm gonna move on to the next project. kewl video
That's the right attitude. Keep pushing forward.
@@D4Darious i will
DUDE - I haven't even watched this video yet, but had to comment because... that THUMBNAIL! You rock, man. Keep moving forward.
Had three shoots lined up for the Spring/summer instead have been doing micro films in my kitchen and garden. Worst thing is it's making me do more housework in order to shoot stuff 😆
#BlackLivesMatter
Preach brother you are absolutely right! I express that sentiment to my students often. You are awesome and I recommend your channel to my Students every semester.
so dude. I was driving home today, and thought I have not seen you in a while. Good to see ya! glad you are safe, and healthy! doing what you do. Knowledge does stick man. Thank you for posting a new video! I appreciate your motivation and wisdom. That sticks too! ha! thanks
Thanks for the swift kick in the backside. I was gearing up to start some shorts with other people besides me or my family. So now I’m thinking of ways I can make more epic content, and maybe just star in it myself. Not that I’m an actor, but just so I can keep moving and learning.
Love your channel! Your one of the main reasons why I started mine!
Damn, I needed this slap in the face. "Follow my feet! Follow my feet! Keep moving! Keep moving!" Many thanks, sir! Best of luck on this tumultuous journey
Right meow I‘m so pulled in that after 6 hours of editing at 00:30 am and finally exporting the video I start adding clips to the next project. I‘m afraid of the moment when that pull stops and I have to grind through that phase, just because I‘ve so far never managed to in other areas of life. Thanks for the video and all your other content, it definitely keeps the stoke up!
Yo Barbara. We share the same struggle. This whole pandemic thing just caught me in the middle of shooting a short film. My first ever short film but made a short film using a phone so that I stay creative. There are lot of bad choices I made in post but I love it regardless. Filmmaking is such a drudgery, but gotta keep the morale up. Thanks for talking about it downs brought by this pandemic. One love D-Barbara
much appreciation for the video as a music producer i have those thoughts all of the time
It's a constant battle sometimes lol.
I am making my first short film, but things werent right in the initial stages i had a same thoughts as the other filmmakers have, but luckily my town was declared green zone and thats when i thought this it, nobody can stop me, but someone did, me, i was thinking if i am capable or right for doing this, in this situation you D hepled me through this phase of self doubt, you helped me to do this. In this process i was only watching your videos and learning, my family and friends also supported me. Thank you D for this,
You are the best
I'm in the same boat, my current project skidded to a halt cause of the pandemic, but i made a bunch of shorts and videos with stock footage and my kid while working on pre-production and making the current production better so once we can get back to it, it'll go smoothly. Love your work man keep it up!
Thank you for commenting 🐞
You always have such great advice. I booked a session with you to learn my camera and now that my big projects are on hold I decided to shoot my own music video with a tripod and me. It actually is looking pretty good! Editing now. Much love
Hey man I had a Feature just getting started with my film teacher and when we left school it fell apart, in reality we will probably finish it next year but it still hurt to have something I was excited about just vanish into thin air. anyways I just wanted to tell you that this video helped me realize that things will get better, and it has helped to motivate me to start thinking of some new ideas. thank you.
“If we only did the dishes when we felt like it, the dishes would never get done... same goes for filmmaking”. Darius this is one of the best things I have ever heard in my life & is going up on my wall. So simple and hugely effective. Thank you sir 👍👍👍 Exactly what I needed to hear.
i'm always hanging for your next videos
"Knowledge stacks" is a t-shirt waiting to happen. I love that sentiment.
Also - I know "failure" is a thing that people like to talk about but I find that the term is still very scary to a lot of people. But, like, if you're a hobbyist or just starting and are working on a project and it doesn't work and you parlay it into learning and momentum into the next thing - where's the fail state there? If failure makes you uncomfortable, free yourself from the idea of failure and just keep building onward to the next thing.
Thanks Darious - great video, as always.
Seriously. We spend time and money on courses and professional development and don't call that a failure or a waste. So long as you're learning something useful from projects that don't got the way you want, it's essentially the same thing.
Well articulated thanks for your perspective
I really appreciate you man! Your videos are always a great source of inspiration and advice.
This video is amazing. Very helpful, very honest, and it is exactly what I needed.
Thank you for tuning in.
My brothers and I had been planning to do our first ever film for over a year. We wrote a script and I did a lot of the preproduction stuff. We were planning to film this summer but it doesn't seem as though it is going to happen. At first I was bummed out cuz we were all excited to start filming. It was gonna be a hella low budget film but we wanted to put ourselves to the test and try. We still plan on doing it, but honestly I needed to hear this message. So, thank you Darious! For the video and for always providing content for us all!
I kinda liked that opening shot you had there. You should think about doin' more desk videos there, the flares look rad AF.
Your page has inspired me and I love the deals and sponsors you promote! I’m thinking about the filmmaker bundle. STAY FILMY BRUH BRUH
D4Darious, subscribing to this channel was never a mistake, sharing your film knowledge with us means a lot to me that will forever be remembered in my film history. I am learning so much from you that gives me the confidence to show my film making skills. Please help me know how you edit your audio in adobe audition.
Bro! Your my favorite youtuber! God bless from Canada!
Thank you for the support Levi 🙏
Hey man it’s always a treat to see you release a video you always have great content and a great energy in your videos.
Sharing knowledge and experiences keeps the energy going. Thanks
Love it D! We just had a similar life event happen. The sports car project is just to much and especially now, that industry is almost at a full stop. But! we now are selling the tools we designed and built to help us make the race car! If we just gave up then we would have never thought to try and sell tools for our industry. Who would have thought. I'll be scheduling a session with you soon for some advertising advice. Got to make our ads dope! Best Matt
Very inspiring, as always! You're so right about learning from mistakes, I know I've learned something on every project I've done no matter how small. Keep learning, keep doing!
Thanks for this bro. The same thing happened to me except what happened was my sister was the lead, and dropped out. This is really helpful.
Thank you so much for this, I love your insight on life and film and probably sandwiches too.
I was going to make my first short film. I had the script, the actors, the gear, and the locations. Now I can’t for a long time. What I learned: I definitely should of do other shorts that aren’t as big or important to learn and make the mistakes before hand. In a way I am lucky I can’t do it, because if I did it now wouldn’t be half as good as it will after this is all over.
That's awesome dude I want to be a writer but I'm scared I probably wont be successful
Thanx, I need this motivational pep talk..... and the inspiration this video was spot on for me 👍🏾
I want to work with you once I became successful you're an inspiration❤️
You should never quit youtube. Your a entity. I know you. You been coming on my feed for years. I watch your vids from time to time.
Love this, brother! Uplifting.
Thank you for checking it out Fam.
Love those trophies back there! and the new set...you def deserve it.
I have a short in the editing stages and I had a web series that I was gearing up for but COVID hit and so I flipped it and turned it into a book. I kinda kept it a bit like script format but not all the way and then I pulled stock photos to fit the scene and boom... BOOK. It's not as long and my first few test readers follow it very well.
Thanks Darious I always love watching your videos!
I'm not a filmmaker (I just like watching filmmaking channels on YT), but this spring was the final semester of going back to finish my long-delayed undergrad degree with the intent of getting a job in publishing. The pandemic threw the publishing industry on its ass, and now no one is really hiring. So I jumped right into grad school so I can earn even more money when I do get that job, and on the side I'm hanging my shingle as a freelance editor. Gotta keep moving.
I love these types of videos and it really helped me out when I was told I was working too hard on a project
Really appreciate this video. Failure may be painful, but it's an opportunity to help us grow.
This year I planned to quit my well paying financial risk manager job to join a film school well then corona happened. It kinda complicated everything. After listening to ur advice I might follow my heart rather than worrying too much. Thanks mate
Love your channel, man....Cheers from Eastern Canada!
Thanks bro. You always have inspirational words at the right moments.
Always loved this channel! Keep following your dream Darious!
I was making a short film for a class in film school, but had to cut short due to the covid outbreak. I reworked the project and made it a live action/stop motion hybrid. It ended up turning out more creative than I anticipated.
Yep. Happened to me. Feature. Single Financer and location set. COVID hit during the script approval with the exec producers. Everything is on pause until maybe early next year, late this year. In the meantime, I just keep writing new shorts. Thanks for the vid! You always do great work!
My big passion project ‘Times We Won’t Remember’ has gone into development hell since this pandemic. I’m still working on some music videos for one of my clients but it sure did take the wind out of my sails for a while
I wish there is something more than a like button to show my love for this.
We follow for the wisdom of a peer. Speak that mind sir, down for whatever.
I love you more now that you acknowledge the current issues in the beginning!
