From the moment “America’s first” breed landed on US soil in 1783, it changed the cattle industry forever. With a unique combination of fertility, efficiency and carcass quality, Shorthorns have always been the popular choice for raising high-quality beef. Through it all, Shorthorns have been known for maternal excellence. Simply put, the greatness of the Shorthorn cow has been the foundation of the breed’s success. This year, the American Shorthorn Association celebrates a milestone achievement, it’s 150th anniversary.

One of the ancestors of the Shorthorn was the Durham "Red" cattle breed. The Durham Red was also the English ancestor
of the French Main-Anjou breed (Red Durhams crossed with Mancelle cattle, a French dairy breed; but now the breed is
used mostly for meat. In France the Maine-Anjou is called : " *Red cattle of the Meadow* "cattle. It sounds pretty! 😊
