Nice video. Have the same machine. The correct way to sharpen a plane blade is to center it in the gig not push it to the side. Also adjustments to the jig can be made to get any curve you need. That's what the other knobs are for.

Those two small knobs on the right of the jig are for getting a camber on your plane blade so there is no need for you to push down on the corners which means you are digging into the stone. When slightly loosened the plane blade will rock slightly so you can dull the corners of the blade to stop 'tracking'. Check out the video from Tormek on RUclips which shows you how to achieve this.

That's plenty sharp for woodworking. I have to admit at the end, it looked like we were not going to see any blades in action and I was getting pissed. Then the little paper slicing skit at the end with proud smirk. Made me giggle. Have you ever finished wood with a plane so sharp, the finish looked like glass. Smoother than you could ever achieve with sandpaper?

I remember seeing a whole 30 minute long episode on the New Yankee Workshop on how Norm Abram would sharpen his chisel and plane irons. And it was all with manual sharpening stones and trying to maintain the angles by hand and eye coordination (no jigs as such). Part of this was in part handed down from the timber frame folks he worked with on This Old House. But it was just so seemingly time consuming and dependent on how often you practiced. You could sharpen something wrong (angle/squareness would be off). Given time/accuracy required for a Tormek, I would rather be USING the tools to make things than spending half the time maintaining them.

That is one of the nice features, just how quick it is to sharpen, and accurate in terms of the angles.... More time for playing :)

Check the Paul Sellers method. It’s super fast and the results are quite good.

After SE-77 my hand plane blade is always skew🤕 and never square. Can't imagine what will be with my chisels.

Not so sure it's due to the holder as much as it is due to the support bar. In all the videos I see the bar just never looks mormal to the stone wheel.

Very nice but very few of us can afford the cost of the system you have which probably totals $2500.

Glosses over details too quickly. Needs to pause at key moments so you can see what she is doing

You should be standing behind, not in front. You’re more likely to lose your fingers this way
