The fact that he gave a Best Actor-worthy performance in The Impossible back in 2012 makes his receiving this award (or any artist receiving any "best new or rising [whatever]") a bit of a disappointment. These awards for the "new guys" are never clear in terms of their eligibility parameters.
I see this kid growing academy award reputation in his later years.

If you've never seen Tom in The Impossible, go watch it. He was 13 when he made that movie and the scale of physicality and drama he did really speaks of how strong of an actor he is. I love seeing this guy's journey.
