    Most of the most beautiful, magical songs in this world are unknown by the most. This is one of them. Spontaniously I name another one: A Remark You Made by Weather Report / Joe Zawinul

    Congratulations, I believe you are the first reactor to play a song from Fagen's Kamakiriad album! The album is so very fine, Walter Becker produced it so it's really another Steely Dan record. I play this album all the time and would suggest you checking out Trans-Island Skyway, Springtime and the incredible Florida Room as well. Such great great performances!

    Hi Harry, the tenor sax was played by the late Cornelius Bumpus, who was part of Steely Dan's touring band from 1993 to 2003, and also toured and recorded with the Doobie Brothers. Unfortunately, he passed away in January 2004 at the relatively young age of 58. He was beautifully soulful and melodic, and I was fortunate to have seen him with Steely Dan 3 times between 1994 and 2003.

    • @masapell
      @masapell 2 года назад +2

      So miss Cornelius…he had such a great style, phrasing and fluidity to his playing. He knew right where to place notes and when not to play.

    I haven't seen anyone react to this beautiful deep cut. before. It's a long time favourite. Well done for doing/enjoying it. I think you should just cave and buy Don & Walt's complete discography. It's apparent that you really dig all the songs. In the mean time So_Outrageous should be able to suggest another 18 songs. Don's partner in crime Walter Becker produced it.

  • @danielolson5378

    On the paper/surface this is a Donald Fagen solo album but at a closer look it's, imo actually, a SD album!! Here's the thing the producer here is a guy called Walter Becker...yes the Walter Becker as in the other guy in Steely Dan! Further he's also credited as session player and the album sounds like '90s SD so that's why i say it's actually a SD album.

    Consider this, if you will. If you think about musical evocations of the sea, what have you got? You've got Wagner with The Flying Dutchman, and you've got Debussy with Le Mer, but for waves breaking on a shore, and with a groove to boot, there's Donald Fagen and On the Dunes. It's head and shoulders. Hear those waves building, breaking and receding over and over and over, but with detailed differences? Man, he's nailed the sea, and probably PTSD too. Brilliant.

    I prefer Donald Fagan's "solo" albums. 1. Nightfly 2. Kamakyriad 3. Aja 4. Royal Scam ...
    Donald Fagan does not play saxophone, only keys. Drums is Chris Parker
    Soloist, Tenor Saxophone is Cornelius Bumpus - had to look that up, never heard of them.
