One my buddies knew Gabriel Gonzaga and we ended up going to a Soccer game together one time. He was the most quiet, polite and down to earth guy I've ever met. I honestly did not think I was hanging out with a literal killer when I was with him. He's a great guy and is definitely one of my favorite heavyweights ever.
As someone who came up during the TUF boom era, Spencer Fisher is among my top choices for guys whose careers are criminally overlooked. Man brought the absolute heat every single time out and suffers now in his post-fighting life as a result. You'll always be the King to us, Spencer.
Hello bro, is Mr Fischer suffering of CTÉ? Is it bad? Wish him the best’ really, because he was an absolute warrior and never in a boring fight. We must respect the professional athletes, they are true fighters and deserve our respect and admiration. Sorry for bad English language 🤝
@Slavamixed you're absolutely correct. He and Sam Stout, we're in a video a few years back talking about his condition. Sad the man was a warrior and always left his all in the octagon
Hell yeah. I was wondering where Chris Lytle would be on this list. 54 total fights 20 in the UFC, Only stopped twice both by doctor stoppage. He was an exciting and durable fighter.
I'll always remember Alan Belcher for the leg lock defense clinic he put on the scariest leg lock guy of his time Rousimar Palhares!!! He went into the monster's den and not only survived but dominated!!! He taught me that no one should be scared of any challenge no matter how daunting it may be. He did what everyone thought would be stupid to do and came out on top, what a legend!!
Yeah that was fkn badass. I remember thinking dude what are you thinking? Even the commentary team were saying how much of an appalling game plan that was. Well we were hushed pretty suddenly when he was mopping the floor with him, and then pulled off a TKO if I remember correctly. Absolutely savage.
As a kid who watched the tuf boom, ill never forget any of these dudes. I remember when randy fought gonzaga and i was legitimately scared randy was getting ko'd
Especially when Gonzaga threw the cro cop head kick at randy. Randy ate it like a piece of popcorn but man I thought for sure Gonzaga was gonna bum rush him and flatline randy.
You can't talk about forgotten MMA savages without making mention of IGOR "ICE COLD" VOVCHANCHYN. In some way he was the Rocky Marciano of MMA always fighting guys way bigger than him while being a honey badger ferocity !
Being a watcher of this sport from day one I sometimes forget how much has changed and the faces that have come and gone. This is a great reminder of that!
Thomas Almeida is def an honorable mention. at one point 21-0, and that flying knee KO of Brad Pickett...go watch it and hear the sound that knee made. Dude was beast, prob the next big thing but has been on a 4 fight losing streak...
Really cool you included Tyson Griffin. Growing up, he was the only fighter from my hometown of Santa Rosa, California. So, I always rooted for Tyson a little extra.
The forgotten fighter I miss the most is Amir Sadollah. Not really saying he qualifies for this list but when he was on TUF, he was definitely the dark horse , that ended up winning the season (against the murderer Matt brown nonetheless), he had entertaining fights, but above all else he was funny and seemed like such a cool guy. Wish he was still around
7:20 just made me want to see a video on the most forgotten decorated or “awarded” single fights of all time. With extra emphasis on ones that had future champions in. Eg: - Gaethje vs Michael Johnson: performance of the night. Fight of the night. Fight of the year 2017. Nuance to this one was it was only Justin’s first ufc fight. He then was fed Eddie and Dustin which made it 2 straight losses. Talk about a welcoming murderers row. He also won either performance of the night or fight of the night every single time in The octagon with the streak broken ironically enough in his title loss after 7 straight awards. - Lauzon vs Varner: maybe bc everything Joe is underrated today or imo likely bc it was a ufc on fox card making it the only non ppv card to have a fight of the year (excluding the 2009 fight of the year which was a TUF fight Diego vs clay). But I though it would get a better pop today seeing as Varner scrualky had the upset of the year that same year he won fight of the year with Joe in an entirely different fight vs Barboza. Varner was on his way out so that might be why ppl care less as he only won 1 of his next 5 so they might have discounted it.
Marcus Davis, Sam Stout, Spencer fisher, James Irvin those are all guys I grew up with. Absolute savages, raw sheer brutality, and an unparalleled relationship with violence
Thiago Alves is one of my favorites of all time. I think he gets overlooked because of how bad GSP made him look. If it was even half competitive, he may be remembered more, similar to Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck and others.
I'm glad you mentioned Joe Lauzon. Dude was a soft voiced savage and you knew you were getting a show with him. If you watch his highlight reel alone you can't help but respect him.
Love how lights out is #1. As a veteran of the army and MMA. When that dude does a press tour to our base and recognizes you. In front of your son.... Makes you feel so important and appreciated. He is a legend in every right. Great tribute to him
Was a pleasure watching the brutality of Shane Carwin during his prime, but another fighter I feel is often overlooked was Michael “MayDay” McDonald. Dude had the touch of death at lightweight, and but was a well rounded fighter who was tough as nails, but for some reason just couldn’t break out how I thought he was.
Definitely thought the loss to Faber was going to be only a minor setback, dude was young and looked like he was going to be a mainstay of the bantamweight title picture for a while. IIRC hand injuries eventually forced him to retire.
I really thought he was gonna KO Barao and end the streak I was heartbroken when he lost lol I think he would have been youngest ufc champ too had he won
When I first got into the UFC, Gabriel Gonzaga was my first favorite MMA fighter. Him and Clay Guida were two guys that if they were on the card I went out of my way to get it, sight unseen. His flaw was that he came in right as HW was about to boom. Had he come in during the death period of Sylvia vs Arlovski, he would be a legend.
Yea man Gonzaga, Lauzon and Lyttle are EXTREMELY underrated, Joe's backyard fight w/his brother is almost as classic as the Kimbo Slice backyard fights
If we're talking fighters who always left it in the cage got to go Spencer Fisher and Martin Kampmann. Also while not a savage one guy who doesn't get enough love is Dustin Hazelett
I grew up in Indianapolis and sadly Chris Lytle is not even known locally to the point he should be. From UFC to BKFC hes as exciting and entertaining as ANYONE, EVER.
Great list! I do have a few honorable mentions. I think Spencer Fisher deserves a spot, not only because of the trilogy he had w/ Sam Stout, but because he was a complete savage every time he fought. MMA fans seem to have forgotten him, which really is sad. The other guy I think deserves a spot is Chris Leben. That dude was just chaos incarnate, and many of his best performances came on the heels of him nearly being finished first. It was like dude needed to be hurt in order to flatline guys, and he showed it more than a few times. Brian Stann would be my third pick. A lot of people nowadays don’t seem to know about him, but the man was a complete monster. He had absolute bangers every time he fought, he finished Leben, had a barn burner w/ Silva, finished Jorge Santiago (a beast in his own right).
Brian Stann! Loved watching that guy fight. Was a shame he didn't really develop to feel well-rounded enough to crack the top of MW but he was a beast in his own right. Not even bad on the commentary booth either IIRC
I did a couple months of BJJ in high school at Marcus Davis' gym. I didn't see much of him because I wasn't involved in the mma scene there but he seems like a cool guy. I got to hear him tell a mat enforcer story and he showed me an ankle lock in class once. I haven't rolled in about 8 years but I can technically say Marcus Davis tapped me with an ankle lock once which makes me sound cooler than I am.
My fandom is wavering but I just find it so funny that I remembered all of these guys, not for the fights but because they were in all of the Undisputed games lol
Mannnnn, thank you for this video. It brought back memories of some awesome fighters. I loved watching Melvin Guillard fight. He was a lightweight Rumble Johnson, before Rumble was even Rumble. Also, Tyson Griffin is a bad ass. His fight against Sean Sherk is one of my favorites, because finally they were fighting someone else with a similar build and reach, and it delivered! Also (also mentioned in this video), Yves Edwards needs a video done on him at some point!
So many memories watching this video… I started watching ufc 2009 and 2010, I remember all theses fighters… right now I only know the fighters from main event and co main event
This is a great list! I usually tell new fans about Shane Carwin. I say he was the Francis Ngannou during his time. Just nothing but first round finishes through out his career, finishing guys like Gonzaga and Frank Mir. But it's a big 'what if' when he fought Brock Lesnar, he absolutely rocked him with an uppercut in the first round and completely blew his energy out when trying to go for the finish, which cost him the win and ended up getting submitted by Brock in the 2nd round. It's like, Man what if Shane beat Brock that night, became the new world champion and defended it against Cain Velasquez. So yeah, I tell the new fans getting into MMA that if they want to see some good heavyweight knockouts, check out Carwin.
Thiago Alves is a personal favourite of mine. Had the pleasure of meeting him one day and he improved my leg kick instantly. Think his skill was overlooked by the obvious "smell test" stuff.
I really appreciate you guys for educating folks like myself, still getting familiar with the history, blending education and entertainment. Amazing production as always
A few of honorable mentions: Scott Jorgensen, Ian McCall, Evan Dunham, I would’ve also thrown Rick Story into the mix. Never quite made contender status but damn he made people earn their wins. Dudes like him, Tim Means, Jason McDonald, Martin Kampmann, Brad Tavares, Brian Barberena, Alex Cáceres etc are absolutely crucial to the UFC’s landscape and often aren’t credited enough for the role they play/have played.
Alves was an absolute savage. He beat the guys people thought would give him problems - heavy wrestlers like josh koscheck and math Hughes ( who he flying kneed) and people thought he could actually keep it standing against gsp. He was a huge prospect who sadly dropped off after and then usada and he left with a whimper rather than a bang
Nice trip down memory lane, some honorable mentions maybe Josh 'The Dentist' Neer, Dwane 'BANG' Ludwig, Joe 'Big Daddy' Stevenson, Nate 'the Rock' Quarry, Nate Marquardt, Rich Franklin, Pedro Rizzo, Yushin Okami..... I remember watching Neer vs Ludwig.
Joe Lauzon is the fighter that got me into MMA. His cross section of IT,CoD, and RUclips really pulled me in. Used to only watch him fight now I never miss a card.
First five: No way MMA on point! I do remember those guys. Then in the top five.. oh yeah that one, and that one, damn! how could I forget that one as well.... J-Lo my boy! in 2nd place and then to top it off with one I also forgot. Great list in all. Well done y'all.
Bro! You mentioned Chris Lyttle 💚 the king of Sub and toughness! Guys like Miguel Torres and Chris Leben deserve more respect too imo !!! Chin, heart, toughness, boxing, agressivity and good underrated bjj skills. Two of my favorites fighters back in the day 😊 Don’t forget "Kid" Yamamoto, Mike Brown, Gray Maynard, Spencer Fisher, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Thiago Silva etc.. deserve our respect too, definion of WARRIORS !
Jeremy Horn. Choked out Chuck Liddell. KOd Forest w a headkick. Nearly beat Frank Shamrock. Fought a million fights against everyone in the early days and TUF boom era.
The thing I most remember Marcus Davis for, is being insulted by Dan Hardy. "A plastic paddy". "A St. Patricks day gift shop exploded on his website". 😂 Unforgettable.
I ve got a few from back in the day, David terrell was a an absolute monster !!!...also over in pride I know he's known for being the wrong end of rampages slam, but Ricardo arona was a beast !!!
Holy crap love this list sounds like honestly my favorite fighter list from that late 00's-early 10's era. Do yourself a favor if you have never watched these fighters on this list do it you won't regret it. Some fights and fighters listed are fights and fighters that got me hooked on the sport
Jacare Souza is often overlooked, despite him being a strikforce champ, and the best grappler at middleweight. He's not forgotten, just underrated.

Spencer 'The King' Fisher was a beast as well, also one of my favorite fighters from that era. Damn I'm old😢

Joe lauzon grappling his brother Dan in they’re front yard during a family bbq made me a fan way back then 👊

The Sam Stout/Yves Edwards ko is a top 10-15 UFC ko of all time. Hands Of Stone put him in the next galaxy.

Alan "The Talent" Belcher.....
About Fking time some respect is put on his name.
Great list!
You forgot Gabe Rudiger and for good reason 😄
Was he the guy who was a total bitch on TUF?
There's a lot of forgotten savages in MMA it's really sad
Roger Huerta had a BEAST 2007.
I know I'm old when these are all forgotten savages. Tyson Griffin was my favorite fighter back in the day
Man this vid brought me back, maybe include some WEC guys like Miguel Torres or some big guys like James Irvin or Alessio Sakara
I remember all of these guys. Great fighters!!! Thanks for giving them a shout out 😁
As someone who got into the sport during Wanderlei Silvas Pride run cirka 2003 LOVE this list! 🥳🥳🥳
Joe Lauzon vs Jim Miller isn’t talked about nearly enough. Just pure heart and violence.
HANDS OF STOOOOONE!! Thanks for showing him some love.
Holy crap love this list sounds like honestly my favorite fighter list from that late 00's-early 10's era. Do yourself a favor if you have never watched these fighters on this list do it you won't regret it. Some fights and fighters listed are fights and fighters that got me hooked on the sport
My boy Condit not getting any love.
READ THE TITLE....NO ONE HAS FORGOTTEN CONDIT
@@MmaSmarty87 I’m not so sure man. I watch mma content everyday and I never see his name mentioned ever.
