You are very well spoken, I too fight with the dang rabbits!!! I have tried every spray, none of those work. Put up wire fence and they dig under it!!! AARRGH!!! A whole forest of natives but they have to eat my flowers!
This is very helpful. I also have bunnies who have made a home under my new deck built 5 years ago. They eat my clematis so I have to create cage at base. My big jackmani is supposed to be poisonous bunnies, but they eat it to the ground anyway. Cage only solution. They eat my hosta as they bloom. I put pepper and garlic powder down which helps. My sweet woodruff seems to get eaten. They have eaten 3 different clematis to the entire rootball. Good to know shrubs pretty resistant. My hydrangea seem not affected by bunnies.
That’s very interesting indeed. We’ve now realised there’s no conventional approach to what the rabbits will or won’t eat. So we experiment by buying one plant and seeing they’ll go for it. If not, we buy a few more.
Nobody really talks about this. Mostly it's, "sprinkle red pepper flakes" or "put in a fence". I don't want to put a 1 foot deep, 2 foot high wire fence around my flower garden. I experiment like you do to see what they will eat or not. But it's tough, you think they will not eat a plant that has rough leaves, has a scent or odor, and then they do. I think you're right on that the more mature the plant, the less likely to get eaten. When I asked my Nursery which plants to buy, (I do this every year, haha), they always say, "Well, you will be fine with taller plants." My friend says that rabbits are lazy, they don't want to reach up too much. So, basically, the more mature the plant, the less likely for damage, no matter what kind of plant.
thank u,,that was helpful,,,,i have a large planter ,,i live in a apartment,,so i can only put so much stuff out,,so i got a huge planter and plat every year,,another question,,do birds attact plant that ae germinating?i cant tell who tore into my planter and ate every thing that was comming up,,we do have alot of birds out here,,i was thinking they might have been the ones who attact ,,who or what ever it was spread soil all over the place,,total mess,,so i am very upset about this thing,,thank you ,,i hope you can answer my questions,,;)
We have such a huge cottontail population in our neighborhood, especially the woods beyond our slated fence, that everything I put into the landscape that is supposed to be rabbit resistant is not. It drives me crazy to come out each morning and see the rabbit damage of plants eaten down to the ground. Verbena, lantana, ornamental onion, annual flowers, etc are gone overnight. I've used garlic, hot peppers, blood meal to no avail. It is so frustrating.
That is so true, and we feel your pain. It seems rabbits love everything. This week, they jumped into our garlic and onion raised bed and decimated it. They are very destructive little creatures.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!

Yes, we know how you feel.
Thank you for compiling this video. I am going to try some of the suggestions. Love My Home Farm!
Thank you for your comment and support. Please let us know which flowers and shrubs are left alone by your rabbits. Good luck.

Thank you. I have never had rabbits before but suddenly I do. Love the idea of using more hanging baskets for things like petunias.
You’re welcome. Rabbits are puzzlingly and have a habit of eating things they’re not supposed to. So hanging baskets is the safest bet.

We lost an apple tree because the snow was so deep the bunny got above the guard.. i was so sad.
Wow. Never even thought about that. How big was your tree?
