  • Hey everyone!
    My piano has finally been tuned after the acclimatization period =D it didn't really change much except for 1 or 2 keys that were obviously out of tune like the highest D key
    After 5 months, I've finally been able to record this piece! I started learning it a week after Animenz posted his video but had to put it off for 2 months as I had to study for my year 12 exams. I was ready to record this piece a few weeks ago but I wanted to wait for my new piano to come. It's a good thing I didn't though as I watched Wattkeys' analysis of Animenz's rendition and it really helped me improve my own playing such as the dynamics for the arpeggios at 0:58 or the crescendo for the right hand at 2:23.
    This piece was difficult to play from start to end as you'd imagine since it's in Animenz's top 10 difficult piece. The hardest sections were by far the three hand at 2:13 and the right hand jumps at 3:43 which made me want to quit this piece when I got around to learning it. Thankfully, I didn't give up and found out that it's mostly muscle memory and you definitely need to have good wrist technique at 3:51, especially for the minor 7th (B - A) which you have to reach with fingers 2 and 5. I'd also recommend listening to Minami's original version to figure out which parts to accent starting from 3:43.
    Other than that, solid dynamics is definitely needed throughout the piece which I think I could've improved on after listening to this recording ._.
    I hope you enjoy it though and see you next time!
    EDIT: I've been adding the anime's logo to my thumbnails but didn't really like the aesthetic of Domestic Girlfriend's one so I'm just going to leave it out :p

    This was a very amazing performance. One thing that realy stood out to me is that you didn’t rush the “easy” parts. I’ve seen so many other pianists and creators play this arr. but rarely have they actualy took time and brought emotion to the slower and easier parts. Also, i really admire the second chorus scince it takes a lot of raw speed and precision to play correctly, i love the 3 hand technique. One small thing i noticed is that the bass isn’t very dominant as it should be when you played the song, idk if it was the recording that maybe made it bass sound quieter. Anyways, ty for this performance✌️✌️

    Amazing performance skill wise, but there is one thing that I think can improve a lot. I'm not the best at piano I'm at 1st year of conservatory ( something like music school but Idk if it's the same) but there is this one thing that I'm sure will make your performance way closer to animenz's one. My teacher told me that you don't have to just press the keys, you have to mean it, I don't know how to say it properly, you don't have to play Idly, or be "selfish" with the sound, when you press it you have to get to the end of the key.
    When my teacher told me, I didn't really thought it would Work , but on a grand piano you can really hear the difference, when someone is playing on a grand you can tell if he/she is secure or not. This, in my opinion, will make your playing better and make it seem more secure. I really hope I didn't sound Conceited and I hope I didn't do many errors cause im a native speaker. Anyway very good performance for real. Keep up the good work

    I think 1:10 is a difficult point, because it needs a certain reaction speed & sensitivity, unfortunately, even if the first two conditions are met, the finger still has to be precise on each key (especially the continuous When three A are connected to E... 🥶)

    • @CharlesMaPiano

      It's not that bad, you just have to relax your wrists and rely on muscle memory.

    Nicely played, one of the best performance I've seen so far, 2:13 sounded very clean too! Not sure why the soft and loud parts are having a similar volume, perhaps it's the mic placement?

    Hi Charles. I would like to ask by the way, how to practice reading music? I usually listen to it by ear and pop it out, but recently I found that I really have to learn to read music seriously 🙁 Hope you can give some advice 🥺

    • @CharlesMaPiano
      @CharlesMaPiano  2 года назад +1

      The best way to practice is just to read lots of music. Firstly, though, you should make sure you know how each note is written; the different types of notes (semibreve, minimum, crochet, semiquaver, etc); articulation markings like staccato, tie, slur, legato, tenuto, etc. After that, it's all about reading music frequently. I've been practicing this too by sightreading simpler pieces. Over time, you just learn how to quickly recognise patterns like chords, arpeggios, or scales so just be patient =)
      If you don't know how to read sheet music at all, then start by learning how the notes are written on paper (like where middle C is) and the different types of note durations. There's plenty of tutorials on youtube about the basics. Don't worry too much about articulation markings since they'll come naturally and you can just search them up when you come across them.
      Definitely don't start sight reading Animenz pieces if you're a beginner to sheet music since I think it's way too complicated. Find some simple classical music/pop music to practice on

    How did you manage to play so fast? A week in but I'm only able to play until 1:59 at 1/4th speed. And I can't seem to hit those double left hand notes from 1:04-1:18 (I think you know what I'm talking about). Any tips?

    • @CharlesMaPiano
      @CharlesMaPiano  2 года назад +1

      I started playing slowly with separate hands until I was familiar with the notes on both hands then played them together slowly as well. It's better to do it this way since the left hand rhythm is quite weird so you may find it hard to align both hands together the first time.
      Playing with speed isn't the most important thing as it'll naturally increase as you become more comfortable. Since you've only been learning this for a week, it's okay to be playing at 1/4 speed right now - no need to rush! The most important thing is to get the notes and rhythm right for now.
      It's a bit hard to give any tips without looking at how you're playing it but shifting your hand position rather than turning will make it easier. e.g. On line 3 page 2 (starting from part D), you would play the 2 D notes using fingers 5 (pinky) and 1 (thumb) then shift upwards so your pinky finger lands on the same D key your thumb was on. Curling your 5th finger while you shift will make connecting the notes easier too so you can play the repeated note more smoothly.
      I hope that made sense haha
      Please ask any questions if you need more clarification since it's really hard to explain how to play piano with words

    • @davidliu8048
      @davidliu8048 2 года назад +2

      @@CharlesMaPiano That does make sense! I’ve been shifting when playing those double notes but with my pinky all extended instead of curling. And as you said I’ll stop trying to blitz through at the fastest possible speed hahaha
      Thanks for the tips! As I get further into the piece I’ll probably have more questions. Hopefully I can still ask them here ^-^

      Couple questions. How do u manage those 3:52 jumps with ur right hand? I tried shifting as fast as I could but still couldn’t press both notes simultaneously.
      Also, at 3:03 my left and right hand just can’t sync somehow. Left hand always plays a bit off-beat, slightly ahead and behind right hand’s main chorus no matter how hard I try to control. Any tips?

    • @CharlesMaPiano
      @CharlesMaPiano  2 года назад

      @@davidliu8048
      I don't know how you managed to learn all the notes in the 12 days since we first talked but congratulations haha, it took me a good 2 months to do that
      For 3:52, I found that over time, the speed naturally increased. There's not much you can do besides working on your accuracy by playing slowly and that'll get faster as you play it again and again
      For 3:03, sounds like you're trying to play too fast before you're ready for that speed. I also had trouble syncing but found that practicing each bar on its own with both hands really helped. I started off playing slowly, making sure all the important notes lined up, then increased the speed each time after each repeat. I would do this every practice session so I wouldn't forget how to sync both hands. After you get 1 bar perfectly synced, move onto the next and when you can play 2-3 bars well, you can combine them together. Repeat this until you have the whole section synced!
      When you play slowly, you can also accent the notes starting on the beat to check whether you're in sync e.g. at the start of part J, accent the 3rd B (beat 2) and G (beat 3). You don't have to do this for every beat, just the ones in the melody so you can check whether both hands are synced.
      Playing through tough sections with slow staccato is also good practice since that's usually harder than legato so if you can play staccato, you can play legato :p You could try this with part J and K. I played through those 2 sections twice with staccato then twice with slow legato before playing at full speed. You don't have to stick to this schedule though, it gets monotonous so play it as many or few times as you want :)
      Hope this helped! Sorry it's so long...
