Hey 1979! If I had been thinking, I would have included Cheap Trick too. These are all fabulous! It reinforced my supposition that 1979 was, indeed, absolutely fabulous. No home should be without the Clash! Loved the video 👍
1979 was a big transitional year for most of us hard-core music fans ! I was meeting a lot of different people that were into different bands that I eventually liked a lot. FM radio couldn't cover all of the great music that was out there, and the powers that be only allowed certain money makers to be pumped out on the waves, or promoted in the stores ! I love all of the records that you showed, and have 'em all ( except for the Marianne Faithfull ) ✌
Thanks JT! I agree with that. That's what led me to college radio stations during my latter part of high school, and I came across so much new stuff, etc. I toyed with 1978 and 1980 as well, but '79 was a better fit. I took my transistor radio everywhere! 😎🎶
You're right.. Once I discovered college radio, I learned to love the Pixies, Lemonheads, Replacements, Janes Addiction, Robyn Hitchcock... On and on !
Thanks! This was a lot of fun to put together. Subscribed to your channel as well, and looking forward to watching your videos. Appreciate the watch and comment 😎🎶 Ed.
Hi Ed! You had me at Narragansett! I hear you on the Manchester stuff, and I have all the essentials but on compact disc. Donna Summer was a Boston gal. I like my share of disco. Bad Girls is an essential one in that disco vein. B52s debut is in my collection. Blondie as well. That Buzzcocks compilation is awesome! I love Gang Of Four. ✌️
Made with Honor! I saw that Donna Summer bio on Max recently. Was good, but a bit sad in places. Singles Going Steady is a desert island disc for sure. Gang of Four 'Songs Of The Free' is also a go to for me. 😎🎶
Hey Ed. Great video. Day drinking! I love it! 😃That Cheap Trick live album is so good. I am a huge Graham Parker fan, and that is my fave album of his, not a bad song on it IMHO. Donna Summer rules!!! Great Lou Reed album as well, I own his entire catalogue except Metal Machine Music, had it once but deep sixed it, as I found myself never listening to it... but... every couple of years I try it again and it's still a no.🙃 Buzzcocks! I really like that Marianne Faithfull album. And the Clash brings it home. Great job. Cheers
Thanks, Bobby! Was fun to pull these off the shelf and put this together. Sparks and Howlin' Wind are the Parker records I always go back to, and also Reed's Rock And Roll Heart. Bad Girls is easily a desert island disc for me. 😎🎶
Great video. There are so many incredible albums from 1979 across various genres-probably one of my favorite years in music. You have excellent taste! That Buzzcocks album is fantastic, and the Marianne Faithfull album is so raw. So much good stuff!
Thanks, Stephanie! Was a fun one to put together. I put on Singles Going Steady at times on a Saturday morning: gets me up and moving to get stuff done around the house I've been putting off all week!
Hey Ed. Between you and Brian you covered all of the bases. I have most of those albums, I was slightly older than 12 in 1979 😁, and bought them upon their release. Happy to see you championing Parker and Summer, so great and easy on the pocketbook. Great entry. Cheers.
Thanks, Jack! Graham Parker I show whenever I can: it's a great discography. Brian beat me by a few hours, and I let him know it...ha! Sticking to my $10 or less rule has been paying off with some excellent finds 😎🎶
Great video Ed! 1979 was definitely Cheap Trick Live At Budakon for me too. I really liked your description of Donna Summer Bad Girls. Even though we picked different years, we both showed Eat To The Beat. That’s pretty cool. It was just still making such an impact on me in 1980. Good luck in Alex’s contest!
Thanks, Gary! Brian got his 1979 entry up a few hours before me, but I was sticking to it anyway. Plus, I had already pulled them off the shelf! Bad Girls really holds up. A good chunk of what I showed takes me back to my little transistor radio(s) - especially Blondie. Good luck in the contest as well!
Great stuff, Ed! 1979 is the year I would have picked, too. So many great records. I remember owning Reed's The Bells. I think I listened to it twice before giving it away. Sort of wish I had now, though. I wonder if my feelings about it have changed over the years. Excellent work!
Thanks, Mark! I went through transistor radios and AA Batteries constantly back then. I'll give The Bells another run thru at some point. Rock And Roll Heart and Growing Up In Public I gravitate to. Was fun to show Alex some appreciation. 😎🎶
Hi Ed, 1979 is a good year in music. I have that Graham Parker and the Rumor squeezing out sparks and think it’s great. I just purchased stick it to me and for me it is equally as good. B-52’s of course top tier. I have only have look sharp from Joe Jackson. I need I’m the man. Great video.
Thanks, Shawn...you should give this a go yourself! Howlin' Wind and Heat Treatment are also excellent Parker LP's. Joe Jackson has a great catalog as well, so I recommend diving in. Appreciate the watch as always 😎🎶
Hi Ed- so many fantastic albums dropped in 1979...I absolutely love Blondie's Eat to the Beat (easily my favorite of theirs). I think I have almost all of the albums you mentioned except for the Lou Reed one! Great list! :)
Thanks, Richard! I toyed with '78 and '80, but 1979 worked a bit better. The only Blondie I don't have on vinyl is their debut: it can be a pretty penny on that Private Stock label. Someday! 😎🎶
You are the second person I have seen to pick 1979. It was good to see you highlight Graham Parker as it seems that I am the only one championing him on RUclips. Great to see Joe Jackson and The Clash as well. Good luck in the contest.
Thanks, Randy! Brian at @EmbryonicRobot beat me by a few hours with 1979: I certainly gave him what for! Big fan of Graham Parker here. Lot more variety in 1979 than I initially thought. Appreciate the watch and comment as always 🎶😎
Thanks, Doug! I did get a bit excited pulling these off the shelf. I keep adding to my list all the time, and I'm pleased with myself when I remember whose on it! 😎🎶
Thanks, Craig! Had a blast putting it together. I realized afterward that I could also have shown Dynasty from KISS. I wore that record out at 12 years old and still have my copy! You should give this a go 🎶😎
Wow! That was quite a selection. That's a great year to cover, too, especially showing the albums that you did. I think my 1979 collection is all hard rock and heavy metal, so it's cool to see so much other stuff that was out at the time. I actually enjoy checking out some of all the punk, new wave, and what not. It's a scene I'm not right into, but I find really creative, exciting, and original.
Thanks, Peter! I got a little excited, I suppose: there was a good amount I wanted to show. Realized it was a much more varied year genre wise when I started looking back at it. 😎🎶
@@onmyturntable7036 I think that's what makes this contest theme so much fun. It's alright to get excited about a particular year for its releases in music. You did that so well!
Hey Ed!! That’s a helluva intro you got there (I died laughing and both you and Brian doing this.. brilliant!). Another 1979er! I’m actually surprised Brian didn’t show Lou Reed’s the Bells since he is now the authority on all things Lou Reed since he did his ranking (my idea). Happy to say I have a good handful of these, including Bad Girls! What a double. I love that Prince record.. wasn’t he playing literally everything on that record? Plenty of punk/post punk that I of course don’t have. But love hearing you talk about! Thanks for entering. This might be a popular year. I got you down.. great entry Ed!!
Thanks, Alex...it's your anniversary: I had to pay a bit of tribute! Yeah, Brian beat me just by a few hours. I definitely gave him the business 😆. I'm pretty sure Prince plays everything on every record! The responses I've caught to date have been great. Now, get out there and pick up some punk/post punk! 😎🎶 Enjoy the weekend.
Ed, best of luck in the contest! I think Bad Girls is a fantastic album. I remember being about 10 or 11 years old and just loving that album. I'll have to check if I have it in my collection. Entertainment is incredible. That's the only Gang of Four album that I currently don't have on vinyl. Prince's second album was a lot more focused than his first. I think his first album was just to showcase his enormous talents. He could play any instrument, song, and just about any style. He saved the best for last!
Thanks, Mark! I recently watched that Donna Summer documentary on Max. Lots of great footage, and she had some struggles. 'Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad' is one of my fav Prince tunes. I put on 'Entertainment' after I finished the video: got me through the rest of the work day in the home office! 😎🎶
