    Hahaha! Absolutely stupid way of doing the design! @3:52 There’s a much easier way to ensure your tracing is aligned, and also a fast way to rotate the source image. @6:53 Using the transform tool is such a long-winded way. @8:15 Oh, finally you mention that the tube is curved! Totally contradicts your initial statement and all the stuff you explained about camera lens curvature. This also means the Same you traced us not in true proportions 😂 Oops! This is just a CLICKBAIT video to get views. You’re only teaching people the wrong way and the hard way. Very disappointing. (I was given the link to this video by a friend who is just starting to learn AI. I’ve told him not to watch any more of your videos.)

    Another good source of vector artwork is from the company annual report or company newsletter. Many reports/newsletters are pdf documents that can be opened in Illustrator.

    Take Illustrator, import logo file from internet. Vectorize using command button, decompose, ungroup, delete what not needed. Finished. Takes usually less than 10 minutes altogether. If you have a cutter, copy paste graphic into application. Define size, cut. Over!

    I find the best way to transfer decals is by using painter/masking tape, tape it over the decals.
    This way it grabs all the letters and maintains the position. Then just line up on the surface you want to stick it on to.

    What I don't understand is that if you really want to create the original logo of a brand, you should just use their PDF files which is always available on their site. Special bikes has their special PDF most of the time. I always do this way. All the ratios are perfect. You can work with illustrator directly from PDF files so nothing to edit with the ready vectorgraphic files.
    After the logos are ready and saved I find out their 99.9% accurate measurement from the ratio of the frame. As you know that most of the bottle cage bolt holes are 65.5mm in distance from each other. This is a standard. So, from this details you can find out the width of the decals you need, and so the normal, complete measurement too. Just a tip btw. Your paintjob is really lovely.

    • @EllasPOSEiDON
      @EllasPOSEiDON 6 лет назад

      kangsterizer Well. I would never do so. For high quality and really astonising looking painting results you really need a proper masking film for a proper cutting mashine and yes, they're pricy so you have to use a company for this and they'll ask for insane prices.

  • @Giralt
    @Giralt 6 лет назад +1

    1st I would do, is to find a 2D image of the logo, the highest possible resolution, and then trace it. Only in case I can't find it, I would start doing such an aproximation of an original logotype. By the way, change the layer colour in order to see where the path goes. Good Tutorial!!!

  • @bantcliff

    Surely the top and bottom edges of the lettering need to be stretched slightly, as on a photo it will appear narrower due to the frame curve ?

    • @kh23797
      @kh23797 5 лет назад

      @Blake Antcliff ... In a reproduction, to overcome dimension 'squeezing', I note real-life dimensions using a vernier caliper so I can eradicate perspective effects which makes the image appear 'stretched' towards the edges of the image (not due to lens distortion). You can then both reproduce the correct proportions _and_ employ original measurements rather than scaling up or down.

      Just to say i did try and use the montana varnish but it wasn't that great. Despite using two cans the protection wasn't great and the paint has started to chip. I would recommend trying a 2k clear coat lacquer like the video. Also when buying the vinyl get the thin type. I ordered the logos of ebay and also did one myself but the one i did myself was a much thicker vinyl and it has started coming off. The logos ordered through ebay has stayed on even without protection.

      Your local marketing company should be able to make them for you cheaper, or you might want to ask around in card crafting communities as some there have adopted digital designing and cnc cutters what far as i'm aware can also cut vinyl and probably wont ask much for printing templates. Those machines are also relative cheap, though work area is smaller than commercial ones. If you are using them as paint templates cheapest stuff on local market should work. Or you can ask off cuts from local marketing company. You might get them for free and just free hand something simple like lettering.

    Die gezeigte Methode ist leider viel zu umständlich und nur geeignet für Decals, die vollständig auf einer Seite eines Rohres zu sehen sind. Bei allen gerundeten Stellen kommt man so leider nicht weiter. Ich habe mir in diesen Fällen eine 3D-Papierschablone von der betreffenden Stelle gemacht, diese flach auf einen Scanner gelegt und dann in Illustrator die gewünschte Grafik erstellt. Nach Ausdruck und Cutting, passen diese Aufkleber perfekt.
    Noch ein Tipp zum Thema Lens Distortion: Aufnahme mit großem Abstand, Stativ und Zoom-Objektiv verringert die Verzerrungen an den Rändern deutlich.
    Noch eine wichtige Sache, die nicht erwähnt wurde: Beim Fotografieren muss unbedingt ein Maß/Zollstock mitaufgenommen werden, denn sonst erstellt man unter Umständen ein Logo, dessen Maße nicht auf den Rahmen passen. Eine Pixel-Auflösung von 300dpi ist KEIN reales Längenmaß, beim Platzieren des Fotos in Illustrator kann es passieren, dass es nicht mehr die Originalgröße hat!

    What not using a low definition logo. And make it high by copying it on PhotoShop or Gimp.
    Like it you will not have distortion. And you will have your 300dpi.
    You make you more difficult for nothing but pain !

      the brand logo for the down tube may be easy, but on a bike there's tons of small logos that could be difficult to find these images

      You can upsize something but you can't create resolution - two very different things. I'd actually suggest looking for the logo online instead. Most logos are already drawn in vector format and won't have the distortion from wrapping around the frame!

      MileHighSi he's not suggesting that upscaling makes it have higher resolution. He's saying that you might as well use pics from the net since you're gonna trace it anyway.
