2014 Yamaha FZ1, is it just as good as my 2008 was?

  • Hey guys, well this is my second FZ1, is it just as good my 2008 was.... oh yeah. Is it as much fun as the Street Triple... no, but the Street Triple sets the bar high for overall fun and performance. There are two things that are better on the FZ1, top end power, an a little more wind protection. If I had to choose just one, the Triple would win.

    I bought a 2008 Yamaha FZ1 in 2009 with 14,000 miles on it. It was the best riding, most fun bike I had ever rode, and I have sudden many different motorcycles. None could compare overall to my FZ1. I put over 30,000 miles on it and enjoyed every mile. It was powerful and could get to 150mph quickly. The near upright seating was much more comfortable than the lean forward riding position of true sport bikes. It was super reliable and looked great especially after a few mods. I added an aftermarket exhaust, brass air intake screen and yamaha lower fairing and custom altered with better padding drivers seat and some new adjustable levers. I loved the gold colored wheels. It was then awesome in every way and in my experience one of the best motorcycles ever made. Cudo's to Yamaha for making this fantastic sport touring bike.

    The FZ1 is an icon. It did something so well that others couldn’t do. It was a great midway bike to the extreme FJR1300

      Agreed, if you are looking for a smaller package for touring, this would be it.

      Only problem is it’s terrible on gas and tiny tank.

    Hey nice bike bro. I've been riding for 2 summers now. I have a 05 Kawasaki Ninja 500cc... I love the FZ1 gen2... been researching them a lot lately. Do you think it would be a wrong move to go from 500 to 1000cc after 2 summers. Im not an aggresive rider, but my ninja 500 is uncomfortable and i feel like im a little heavy for it. Would love to have something a little bit more stronger and upright seating position. I just dont know if its too early for an FZ1 lol. I'd like to hear your opinion. Thank you anyways.

      I wouldn't think it would be wrong. The FZ is about 70lbs heavier and has a longer wheelbase. It wont be as nimble as the Ninja but the FZ has a lot more power. Its very easy to ride slow, it does not beg you to go fast. Its perfectly happy just cruising around. It geared high so the power does not come on abruptly. You really feel the power after 7500rpm. Its an easy bike to learn because of its power band. Keep it under 7500rpm and its tame, but still fun. The riding position gives you a slight lean forward, but comfy, the pegs are not far back but they are higher than many bike in its class, hope this helps.

      Depends on your riding style and if you can behave yourself... ive started on mine and put 25k kms on it since.

      Which 500 do you have? Maybe have a test ride on some bikes and see what you think?
      Also consider chatting with an instructor, see what their thoughts are for you. Maybe have them assess you? You'll then have a somewhat expert feedback.

    I just bought a 2012 FZ1, it came with a slip on exhaust. What tune do you use on these?

    • @Yo-Ken
      @Yo-Ken  4 месяца назад +2

      Ivan's tune. I used his tune with his suggested airbox mod on my 2008 and my current 2014. Very impressed with the power and smoother throttle. Its a reflash, not a a add on tuning device like a power commander. Check out his website, it is very detailed on how to make an FZ1 perform at its best. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/2006fz1.htm
