Thank you so much for sharing John Tanner's story. It just filled my heart with joy because John Tanner is my great great great grandfather. He loved Joseph Smith so much that he named his youngest son Joseph Smith Tanner, who is my great great grandfather. I loved that you meantioned the blessing Joseph Smith pronounced upon him that none of his posterity would ever lack the necessities of life. It is true. All of us have that promise stated in our patriarchal blessings. I feel blessed to be part of John Tanner's posterity.
John Tanner is my great great great grandfather as well! I come through Sidney Tanner. Such a wonderful heritage.

That is so special. Really touched my heart
John Tanner is a direct descendent of mine also. We love this blessing! There is a fun story my grandma and my parents have passed down to share that my gma’s sister was frustrated that the cupboards were sparse and slightly complaining that this is a time where Joseph Smith’s blessing isn’t coming through. No money and no food. Well, the cupboards were bare and she chose to at least wipe them out and as she did so on the top shelf was a dime! Just enough to buy a loaf of bread! The blessing of “Father Tanner, your children (posterity) shall never beg for bread” came through. My great aunt was sorry she had complained and was forever grateful for the Lord always watching over her and her family.
Maybe I misunderstood? But was there a video mentioned about John Tanner? If so where can I find it?
I have learned so much about studying the scriptures from you both. I was recently diagnosed
with incurable lung cancer and made urgent move to Utah for treatments and had emergency brain surgery, Much more to come but this has been the best adventure of my life. Meeting so many wonderful people with stories to tell here at the U of U and Huntsman. What a blessing to listen to you from my hospital room,

Emily and David, it is always a truly wonderful experience for me to go through each lessons weekly with you, I gain so much spiritually and experience witnesses of truthfulness.
As I study I fine everything just falls into place and knowing the truthfulness of the Gospel is all the more precious to me. A huge thank you from Australia and bless you both.
I love the story you shared about your friends son who while waiting for his visa, was sent very close to home. His attitude was always focused on the work and NOT focused so much on where he was serving. Our son was called to serve in the Buenos Aires Argentina Mission and started 7/2020. For SO MANY reasons he was ecstatic to go and serve there. (1 being, he's a huge soccer player and Messi fan 😂) Anywhoo...,he was temporarily reassigned due to Covid, a little more than an hour from home. From the very beginning he had a great attitude and has served valiantly for a year now. Never once has he complained about being so close to home. He's been an amazing example to me. He said from the beginning, that it isn't about WHERE you serve your mission, it's WHO you are serving.
He , just this last week asked to be permanently reassigned to his current mission. He felt very strongly that that's exactly where he is supposed to stay and serve. 💗
Dallas doesn’t need a self congratulatory golden idol from the “thousands” of residents of the great and spacious building anyways! An award of “bundles of people” his testimony has touched, and Speaking truth and sharing Jesus is way better! Well done 😇

So happy for you! I don't hear or see a member for a week. In Belgium it seems as if a 20 minute drive is the end of the world and we are not so open with each other yet. Few give their testimony for fear of possible reaction etc.....I was in Utah and felt the Spirit so strong and maybe this is what you are wearing

John Tanner was my great great great (or maybe just two greats) Grandfather! That story is legend in our family.
He was my great great great great great grandfather. Do you know what line you are related to him through?
He is also my 3x great grandfather. We also grew up on his story. He has a large posterity. 😀
He's my 4th great grandfather too (through David Dan Tanner)! I didn't know this story until a few years ago, and it was so amazing to me!

One Sunday I decided to write the tender mercies I’d received, so I started making a list in my iPad to remind me for later. When I finished my list that day I had 83. The next Sunday, I had the thought that I should write my list some where more permanent than my iPad, so uncharacteristically, I sat right down, typed it on my computer and then emailed it to myself. On Tuesday we had a celebration in my Adult ESL classes for a student who had just become a citizen. In took a ton of things to class, including my iPad so we could sing along with the Star-Spangled Banner. At the end of class I had all my things at the car, and put my iPad on the roof while I put everything else in the trunk. When I got home and had everything put away, Iv realized I didn’t have my iPad. I drive back to the school parking lot, but my iPad wasn’t there. In my disappointment, I realized that was #84 for my list.
And hearing the of Jared Carter’s, I realize the need to keep my perspective on the Lord and His continued blessings

Hello to Dear Emily and David. What a wonderful resource you both are. I love your insights!! So helpful and positive!! One thing I wanted to point out that might add to your thoughts about Jesus appearing, after his resurrection, to only ones or small groups. He did do that a lot, but in 1 Cor 15: 3-8 Paul tells us He also appeared to more than 500 brethren at once. So grateful that He is a God for the one but also a God for the masses. Thank heavens for that! It is a testimony builder for me. Thanks again for all your wonderful contributions. You have helped me with my scripture study immensely. Love it!!!💕🥰

I listen to a bunch of CFM programs and it’s so delightful! I love all the perspectives...im in awe each week as I get to study my spiritual diamond from all its beautiful and varied facets. Some other programs gave a different ending to Jared Carter so I’ve been trying to read up on him. I west to LDS.org and searched his name. Information there said he actually was rebaptized but did not get out west. I heard Susan Easton Black on one of these programs a few lessons back and she mentioned that new information comes out all the time that changes what we read in books, even hers. Maybe this is the case with Jared carter? I’d love it if anyone out there knows more. I’d hate the quote of George A Smith to write the end of his story if that wasn’t the end❤️

Hey David Butler, what are “80’s days” that you mentioned when Jared Carter said that everyone seemed ignorant during his mission?
I think he was referring to “about 80 times” that Jared Carter experienced marvelous manifestations of the spirit. I think he meant to express that Jared had good days like the “80 times” days when he experienced such powerful results of his mission and other times, he didn’t and felt everyone was so clueless.

The only doctrines and Covenants I have read are in the Catholic Church. Jesus Christ started the Catholic Church. All else is heresy.
I'm so sad you feel that way. I studied catechism in high school many years ago. I loved the priest, I was in love with a catholic boy. I couldn't get past the fact that the the scriptures say not to call any man Father. Anyway, after many more years I married that young man, he came out of Catholicism and is an independent Christian minister. The Greek orthodox claim to be the oldest church. Jesus organized his church with 12 apostles. He instituted sacrament. I'm not a preacher. Just a person who believes Jesus.
