My brother you got the snipe we all missed. Sometimes it truly just takes a fresh set of eyes. The fans not knowing him “well” in the way you suggested makes sense with the way he’s expressed that he wasn’t sure the success would still come if he was no longer playing in his ‘“unwell” bag’.
EDIT: I watched your other video and know you want to do the lyric videos from now on. I don’t blame you at all as many people have had copyright claim issues with his music videos but if I can make a single request of you on behalf of everyone that has ever seen the video and heard the song, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy do the video for the song “STORY” on NF’s Clouds mixtape(the next release after this album). You’ll want to thank me later but all the thanks I need is for you to keep being you my guy. Much love❤

As a therapist who is also clinically diagnosed with OCD, his lyrical prose and rhythmic timing represents exactly how OCD presents in the brain. It is relentless, and it feeds on doubt and fear. It is also considered the doubting disorder. It attacks your values and makes you feel as if you are the exact opposite of those values you represent. Those who have the disorder may have various obsessional themes depending on their most basal fears- and then the compulsion is the physical or mental ritual that one engages in to mitigate the fear. Nathan is saying that his compulsion is rumination; compulsions only feed the OCD and create anxiety. It’s absolutely exhausting- and endless cycle. The only way to release yourself from it is to face your fears, accept uncertainty, and stop attempting to answer or solve the questions rooted in fear that OCD demands you answer. It’s complicated 😅😂

Wow…just realized Nate says at the beginning of the second double time “I’m kinda funny but don’t really show it”. His wife has always said Nate is hilarious and now we are seeing it with the new album and Motto. It all makes sense like Teddy said from Why, “a lot of people know me but they don’t know me well” as in this whole time we have been seeing him unwell as apposed to having hope and being well.

To answer your question about why he isn't going into the changing room, "going in sad, coming out happy", I think it's because there is a process that he laid out in this video. The first part was wiping off the fake smiles. The second was the changing room, but notice that none of them had any burdens in their hands. So at the end when he gives away one of his burdens, that basically is like a foreshadowing that he will eventually be wearing all white (thus the new HOPE album). EDIT: But also, I just watched the very end of video, and notied how you pointed out that the people in white STILL have burdens! I didn't catch that somehow! CRAZY!

    • @death_0_048
      @death_0_048 Год назад +1

I always thought it was either Nate’s hope trying to help carry his burdens and give it away like nate did at the end to the “major hope corporation” 😂 or its hopes from other people doing the same thing which is carrying the burdens for the people and then ultimately getting rid of them, but idk, sure there’s endless ways to to take his videos so I could be way off as well lol

There are A LOT of different subtypes of OCD and a lot of them have nothing to do with gathering things or keeping them in order. Some are intrusive thoughts that you think are your own, some are violent thoughts towards loved ones that feel real. It is a very complex disorder.

I honestly think he has had a general outline of what he wanted to do with his career - which is why he's able to link them all together throughout the whole 9-10 yesrs he's been doing this this way - but didnt know what the songs would be. If you go through The Search album, you can tell hr was in a bit of a dark place after having to check himself into a mental health facility after touring for the Perception album.
Also, the ending I truly believe is Nate giving some of his burdens over to God, which is why you don't see the face of the person he's handing the couple of balloons to.

The era he was in mentally while he was writing The Search album was a very dark era, suicide attempts and a fairly lengthy stay at a mental hospital. In fact, the song 'Nate' on The Search album was written while he was in the hospital and was inspired by an exercise they had his group do where they were basically supposed to talk to their younger self.
My take on this video is that it's a representation of his time at the mental hospital. I feel like all of those in white are patients that were embracing the experience and succumbing to the therapy and the process. I feel like he never fully did and struggled with himself in there as much as he does outside of it, despite obviously wanting to have it work and wanting to get better. At the end I feel like that was maybe his psychiatrist behind the curtain and he was supposed to hand off a burden (as in, fix an issue in real life through the therapy) but he just couldn't let it go.

That's interesting. I felt that the white shirts are those that have decided not to be controlled by fear, regret, and depression anymore. The things the black shirt have represented. Things "normal" people seem to do effortlessly but are a lot of work for people trying to overcome various issues.
They first make the change to their mindset with the white shirt. Then they line up to get help and resolve their baggage and shed their burdens (shots where they are turning in their balloons).
I think the people in white appear sort of mindless and conformist at times to those on the outside looking in and deep in their depression.
I've always felt that depression does have some benefits in self awareness and reflection that people who are carefree and healthy seem to have the luxury mindlessly ignore. He touches a bit on that (in my opinion) on "Just like you".
And in "Just like you" and "Hope" he touches on that maybe it's time to let these things go and try to be a white shirt himself.

I absolutely LOVE the time you take to give us your perspective. I think your right in saying there isn’t a right or wrong theory to his music which in turn is what makes it so relatable to people. We can take our own experiences and perspectives and in turn take what we feel the song means to us and apply it to our own lives. When you spoke of his mom carrying the 3 balloons I agree that I truly hope he doesn’t think he and his sisters were burdens. Turning that on its head though, and maybe because I’m a parent who is in recovery, maybe it could represent HER feeling like a burden on the 3 of them instead of the other way around. Being in recovery I’ve had to take a hard look at what my illness had done to my children. They were young when my addiction started and young when I found recovery but I’m not naive. I realize that even if they don’t have memories of my use my personality and who I was is not who I am now or who they deserved. Just another possible outlook is all. As always great work breaking it down 💯

I have diagnosed OCD... and I have to tell you, it's HELL. It is a curse. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. NF has said that OCD actually is not something that drives him quite the contrary, he said that the process of making the HOPE album took so long because of his life with Beckham and also because of how much his OCD has been eating him up from the inside. Anyone with OCD hates it and OCD treatment takes around 16-19 years.
also, the theory doesn't really make sense because after perception, he had his worst breakdown and was the most suicidal he ever was. The Search album was his most depressing one I have listened to, and you'll realize that when you react to them. After he started doing therapy, which was after the Perception tour, he started to working on The Search... so I understand your theory, but it just doesn't add up imo. Also he started to really feel better after the search album came out, and then we started to see Nate be more positive than before.
Keep up the work man, love your content!

    • @yurisilpesst
      @yurisilpesst Год назад +1

@@Swagu33 well, yes, of course, it depends on the person, but mostly on the condition of their OCD and how severe it is. The reason why it takes so long is because of the complexity and because most people discover they have OCD when it's already disrupting their lives, hence why treatment takes longer, they have not been treated early enough in the process. OCD is at the top 10 list of the most disabilitating disorders out there, which shocked me at first.

At this point in time he does not want to take the medication for OCD because he is scared of what will happen.

But as you see in 'HOPE' that's how you have to dress in the white tops, white jumpers and/or joggers and white tennis shoes as well as having HOPE after you've gotten the help you obviously need if you've had a breakdown where it is bad enough for you to say, "okay I need to ✔️ myself into the mental hospital before I do something I can't take back!" That sort of thing as well. I wasn't sure if you knew this bc I don't know about hospitals there. Here what color scrubs you wear is a tell of your role in the hospital 😊

Great reviews man. I am on your NF journey as well.
I suffer from debilitating OCD. My hyper-focused mind has been an advantage. However, the disorder comes from the fact that the mind cannot stop. It simply is in overdrive, afraid all the time, searching for potential threats, and doubting everything connected to the theme which triggers the OCD. ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. It is like an infinite regress which feeds upon itself until you completely snap.
But yes! Mental health needs to be discussed, needs to become part of the cultural dialogue. And I thank you for intelligently and openly dissecting NF's important artistry.

Nf to me is all about transformation and his fears and complacency with being depressed. The people in white are happiness and he's scared to be happy but it's there for him to take it because he is becoming happy. The black balloons are everything locked in his mansion basement. Fear, resentment, guilt. He's dissected his psyche through years of rhymes. He says quiet cuz doesn't want to mix happiness with his pain. Pain drives him. Until he had hope, his son.

It's not just at the end, where the people in white have black ballons, there are some all through the video. Nate calls them doubts..."ruminating fill ballons up full of doubts", not burdens.(Not a big difference, but I think it matters) That would make sense, to have to let them go, to find hope🥰Also people with and without balloons and with a "fake smile" queue up to have it wiped of, the tent next to it has ballons in it, doubs that were left behind, you don't need a fake smile if you don't doudt yourself and others, you don't have to pretend.
Also Nate is wearing grey and has black and white clothes with him in his trolley 🛒
All just theories and things I saw, this video, I could've written more, there's so much symbolism there and with lyrics, love it❣🖤❤‍🔥🤍❤‍🔥🖤❤‍🔥🤍❣

Okay your reactions are very entertaining and good. I've always liked rap but I must admit NF has brought me into the whole rap scene a lot deeper. His depth is something I've never really seen before and watching your reactions reminds me of my whole process since I've been doing this and you've been giving me insights and understandings that I didn't even think about before. It's weird it's kind of like reading a book. Anyway thank you for doing this I appreciate it.

In several songs he mentions having things all mapped out and the industry (or certain decision makers) not seeing his vision. I believe his notebook is full of past therapy, and we draws content from that and includes new.

White shirts lined up to have smiles painted on, him handing balloons over to white shirt at the end… i always took the white version as a medicated path to happiness and his “leave me alone” is his struggle with himself to decide if thats for him or not.
    Just my thoughts

I have been learning more and more about real OCD. Because a certain online friend who I help so much has OCD and its been intense recently. So yeah NF says it so well. And it's not just how he described it when he said,
"Diagnosed with OCD, what does that mean? Well, gather 'round
That means I obsessively obsess on things I think about
That means I might take a normal thought and think it's so profound.
And that's great. But for some reason All the reaction videos I watch kinda think the OCD topic ends there. I knew I didn't really understand this part but some how was fine with that. I just didn't think much of it. But because I have been learning more about it I just realized about 2 weeks ago watching another great reaction to this song from Vibe Reactions. He is amazing person and reactor. I commented this there too but updated it a bit lol. But yeah only recently realized that he continues talking about OCD way past those 2 bars.
So what my friend goes through is like having to keep doing thing or checking things so many times. And it's so different to just being a perfectionist. It's not about perfect it's about if I don't do this more bad things will happen. And they know is not right but but it so prevalent and toxic and comes from pas trauma.
"Diagnosed with OCD, what does that mean? Well, gather 'round
That means I obsessively obsess on things I think about
That means I might take a normal thought and think it's so profound."
This first part is just about how someone with OCD thinks about their thoughts. The think that though is more profound that is really is. Like they think of possibilities that could happen, and think it will happen.

"Ruminating, fill balloons up full of doubts
Do the same things, if I don't, I'm overwhelmed
Thoughts are pacing, they go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's so draining, let's move onto something else."
She thoughts take the trauma and start to fill the mind with doubts about it. Thinking stuff will really happen.
And then he talks about the physical repetitive actions that if you don't do it you get overwhelmed.
Then it talks about the mental repetitive thoughts that happen also. This is different to the action part. This is just the thoughts over and over again.
And it does drain so much of the person is so many ways. Like it physical takes so much energy. So they are tired often.
And they only way to avoid it is to finally move on to something else or get distracted or something.
And that is exactly what my friend has been telling me. I am so so so happy for me to now fully understand what NF is saying here. I didn't think to break down the lyrics before. And I haven't listened to the song in a long time. Just would hear it but not understand and... didn't think much of it. Sometimes idk why I am ok with knowing I don't know it fully but think its fine. I am a slow learner. Sometimes I need lots of info and lots of time to dwell on that info before I get it. I can now tell my friend who likes NF too that I now learnt this lol.
Edit: Also the chorus is him wanting his OCD thoughts to leave him along because of how much they stay around. And general burdens and things also.
