    Never in my life have I seen a tutorial that shows a technique for backwards knitters, I always had to reverse engineer the stitches. Thank you!!

      All my classes demo that (short rows, lace, brioche). You can check out my classes here: education.pattylyons.com/

    I love the way you show multiple ways to knit back and forth. Shadow wraps are probably my favorite short rows as they seem to disappear best in much of the knitted work. As always, excellent tutorial!

    Wow, another way to do short rows, so clean and easy and there are no holes. Thanks for the lesson Patty.

    How would that be used in the round, so that the WS wrap doesn’t create a hole on the WS when going back to knitting in the round? Your book described it for W&T and German short rows.

    Thanks for the instruction. I understand how to do short rows I just don’t understand the concept behind short rows. Can I ask why stop 3 stitches before the “doubled stitch” to do the next shadow wrap? I follow a very similar technique to do my sock heels but every stitch has the shadow wrap. Thanks again. Stay safe and healthy.

      I am showing an example in this video. The pattern I am using has three stitches between each turn. To understand the concept, try drawing it out. Take a look at this tutorial that shows a drawing of short rows. Now try taking graph paper and draw your own. See how the shape changes depending on how many stitches are between each turns. Think about stacking rows of bricks. If one row had 10, and then the next row had 8, then 6, then 4, then 2, that would make one shape. If one row had 10, and the next row had 6 and the next row had 2 that would make a different shape. Take a look here:pattylyons.com/2018/04/substituting-german-short-rows-for-wt-short-rows/

      Patty Lyons thank you. I always appreciate your, in-depth, but no non-sense approach to knitting. I could never master the German Twisted Cast on (and I’m German) until I watched one of your videos. 🤷🏼‍♀️💕

    Is this used more for a certain type sock...like lace, for example, since they do not look as durable as the flap type heel?

  • @maggiepatterson7949
    @maggiepatterson7949 2 года назад

    But, how strong are these heels...looks like they would be more prone to getting holes?

    Awesome tutorial! Question, can this be used on a cuff down sock to make a heel? There’s no gusset, right?

    Maybe only swatching will tell me,… but since both shadow wraps are lifted inc R, they are the SAME on RS - not MIRROR images. Wouldn’t mirror imaged turns actually “match” more symmetrically?

    Patty, can I use this with 2x2 ribbing that calls for wrap and turn?

  • @juliamiller2667

    Do you do this on the same stitch that the wrap and turn calls for? The count changes w German short row- . Thanks

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  3 года назад +2

      You are always turning on the same stitch the pattern class for (don't mix up the turn with the HOW you turn), but German short rows makes a double stitch on the last worked stitch, Shadow wrap and W & T create their joining method on the first unworked stitch. So what marks the turn is different. Read about how to substitute here: pattylyons.com/2018/04/substituting-german-short-rows-for-wt-short-rows/

    Can shadow wrap replace wrap and turn short rows without mods? (Vs. replacing wrap and turn with German short rows ). Also, can these shadow wrap replace German short rows ?
    Why would you choose one over another? Thanks!

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  4 года назад +2

      Yep, The difference is with W&T and Shadow Wrap is it is the first UNWORKED stitch that is wrapped, with German Short Row it's the last WORKED stitch that is doubled.

      Patty Lyons thank you! Is shadow wrap preferable to regular wrap and turn?
      Why / in what instance would one choose German short rows instead of shadow wrap?

    What is a backward knitter? Seems bizarre

    • @PattyLyonsKnitting
      @PattyLyonsKnitting  3 года назад

      Not at all bizarre. It is a knitter that doesn't turn their work for the WS row. Makes working charts, short rows, entrelac, bobbles and so many other things soooo much easier. You can learn how to do it in this class: pattylyons.com/product/improve-your-knitting/
