Well maybe that’s why he is focused on more dark brown skins in representing African culture genes and also their resilience through time. He found his visions being transformed into art through this specific tool aka fire, but anyone else can find their own true style with many other tools. When it comes to fire creating other skin tones would probably help mixing fire on canvas with resin when cooled down or other materials for more detailed expression. It’s actually the features that make someone look black or white. He could make the same art with the same values but just white or black features and it would still look right. If I took a picture of a white person with dramatic lighting do they all the sudden look black? Or in movies when white people are in shadow or night scenes do they suddenly look black? No. So the amount of burn isn’t necessarily a problem. Mainly the features. Have you ever seen photo albums of grunge, rock, metal, and death metal bands? The contrast is high and the brightness is low. Lastly, think about two tone images. Black and white iconic images like Che Guevara or the OBEY logo. If I make a two tone image of a black guy using just white and black it’s still going to look like a black guy. If I use a two tone image to make a white guy it’s still going to look like a white guy. Last example. Imagine gameboys camera which is essentially the same thing. Do write people all the sudden look black or black people all the sudden look white? Source: me, I’m an artist who can draw white and black people.
Like in culinary where the edge of the fire is used to add aesthetics to the outer appearance of cakes 🍰 especially where sugar has to be melted on top of it, so he is edging with the fire aka painting with the edge of the fire 🔥 otherwise you can burn not only the canvas but the whole studio 😀
