- Many people have wondered who I am behind the scenes. Many people have tried to crawl into my world. Only one person from the outside has been able to do this and he was a reporter from Nanning TV. Daniel who became a good friend followed me around for weeks. Every time I turned around he was there with his camera. People were calling him a CCP spy watching Gweilo at every turn. This is a short documentary done by this more than talented young man. He catches the essence of my world perfectly. I am forever grateful to him as this piece of video will be in my family to show the generations after me who Gweilo 60 aka Kirk Apesland from Weldon, Saskatchewan really is/was. Have been to China several times.Super beautiful and very safe even at night and the people very friendly and helpful hard worker. In the park u see lots and lots of people dance as keep fit u have young old all generation mingle together to enjoy themselves China is a great place to go visit it is a must .so many beautiful places to visit for all taste.Gweilo you are amazing and lucky.Keep it up

南宁是一个很友好的城市。广西属于欠发达地区，外来人口不多，南宁市主要的人口都是省内其他地市的人口迁入。整体来说，治安很稳定，东盟的门户，经济活动在国内排中下。有桂林山水，其实河池，百色，柳州的景色都很好的，自驾游会让你一辈子都忘不了，你想象不到在现代社会里，还有很多人住在高高的山上，他们似乎不关心外面的世界是咋样的，自己过自己的日子。 南宁有窃格瓦拉这样的人，为自己的追求活着，但别人别想改变我，自得其乐，可能这也造成了广西是一个怎么也发展不起来的地区吧。我家在南宁，但是我快十多年没回去了，很想念那里的贵州三品王，南宁老友粉，桂林米粉，柳州螺蛳粉，玉林牛腩粉。就是天气太热了，夏天的时候，来一瓶冰冻啤酒，真的好爽。

I have been pictured in the Chongqing newspapers even played a very small part as an extra in the movie Back to 1942 I actually have a photo taken with a young Canadian on the film set.
believe it or not I even married a young Chinese couple. I think it was the sister who stopped my wife and I while we were out one day and wanted someone from the UK to marry her sister and partner.
Anyway it was all arranged and everything was set for around 400 guests . The big day came and as I read out the sermon the sister translated it into China. I have those photos too.
That was an awesome event and one I will never forget.
One year in Chongqing I was asked to play Santa Clause father Christmas in a 4 or 5 star hotel then afterwards I asked if I could borrow the outfit until the next day..
That night I took a big sack of treats sweets and a shoulder amplifier there I was stood on a small wall with thousands of people around me enjoying the night as I was shouting yo ho ho merry Christmas. The huge crowd were trying to catch the treats I was throwing and the police politely asked if I would stop because they were worried I would cause panic and people would be injured .
I stopped and I will never forget so many happy beaming friendly faces. I think we all made an exit with our Chinese friends and had a great night.

Kong Kong Yes, the police who knelt on the neck and killed George Floyd had an Asian wife. She divorced him after he was arrested.
Nanning is like your child, you witnessed its growth, the future it will grow very big, very tall, very strong!
China being a huge country with 1.4 billion people can never be without any failures or screwups ever. Govt constant struggle and battle to ensure order and progress for its citizens are super challenging. Expectations and synchros between central and provincial govt policy are often misaligned and skewed. It's always work in progress non stop. Fortunately Chinese people are forgiving hardy and patriotic which enable the job to be a bit easier.

我从很早之前就觉得，希望有个人来介绍南宁，南宁在旅游方面绝对是个被忽略和低估的城市，它的公园和山都非常漂亮，最近二十年发展非常快
南宁的山不多的。山水还是在南宁的北边，柳州、河池、百色这些地方。南宁周边也有部分，但是不多。
@@unitedsnakes3081 很多年前去过，记得是城市边上的山，山上还有铁树。新城那边有个公园，很大，有点纽约中央公园的味道，人也不是很多，反正对南宁印象很好
@@user-vi6vm1dx2l 南宁号称绿城。现在比几年前发展得更好了。 主要想靠省内其他地市的人来托起来的，加上中央的支持。但是本身产业并不多。相当于东盟的面子工程。主要是当地人也比较容易满足，大部分人都很乐观，可能是热带地区的人都是这样的，没有太大的野心，能安居乐业就可以了。当地人都非常友善，你可以走在街上可以非常放松的。

Love your video since first time watched in Feb 2020. now follow you every video daily! thanks a lot for sharing your views of China. always positive mindset and opening to daily life. I have never been nanning before. But now saw the city, the people, the life many times through your video! For those never been China, trust gweilo's video, that's real life! Do not listen to the BBC CNN, fox, or Taiwan media told u. Go to check with the people staying there! make own judgement from view of ordinary people. They are not suffering there, their life is improving dramatically over last 20years. that is the fact for 99%of Chinese people.

I really need to take more Chinese lessons so that I can understand without the need of subtitles.
it's not as easy as you think. some of the conversations in the video are in cantonese or guangxi-dialect. learning chinese usually means learning mandarin. but you'll still need subtitles. i know mandarin, and 3 other sounthern chinese dialects with various proficiencies, and i still have problem understanding what the northerners say. if i watch a movie or video where they speak the beijing-dialect i.e. the origin of mandarin chinese, i still need subtitle to catch 100% of the dialogues
@@kongkong1364 I knew there were differences with some dialects, but as for now, I was still able to catch sentences/word here and there. But yes, on some videos, I understand absolutely nothing. If I was to move to China, the challenge would be to not only speak proper Mandarin, but also the dialect of the province I would live. Interesting challenge !
Anjiryo , lol, mandarin is very helpful when travelling in any part of China as the locals there are encouraged to speak in mandarin to visitors although you may understand their local dialects. Most Malaysians are familiar with and comfortable in speaking in about 3 local south eastern China dialects on average but we still use Mandarin when visiting there. Haha cheers and have a nice day.
