When I read the title I thought it was preparing an older sibling for a newborn baby! So if you need ideas for a future video, I'd be very interested in how you prepared Kylie for Mia's arrival and how to address any negative feelings that may come (jealousy, guilt from the mom, etc.) Thanks :)
Agreed! This video is very timely as I’m 35 weeks pregnant with #2. Would love to see how you prepared Kylie. I watched the sibling rivalry and managing siblings already but they seemed to be more geared toward older children and siblings.
I'd say play introduce words "wait" and "your turn". Simple games when you're playing together and your child needs to wait 30sec, 1min, 2min... for his/her turn to play with the same car. Just to gain understanding that he'll get the toy back. And say "I'll be with you in a second or few minutes" on different occasions. This allows them to know that mummy will attend to his needs ASAP 😊
I thought the same and was going to suggest the same video!!! How to prepare an older sibling (specially over 2y.o. Hehe) for a new baby and how to adapt the space you already have for your todler! Thank you Ashley! Loved the video!
As a 32 weeks pregnant first time mama, this is exactly the video I needed right now. Also, my unborn baby loves the sound of your voice and goes crazy with the wriggles and kicks every time I watch your vlogs and other videos. 🙂 X

Video suggestion: I'd love to learn how you baby-proofed your house for little ones. I know you explained a little of this in your "creating yes spaces" video, but what is the process that goes into making these "yes spaces" safe? My husband and I are trying to decide what needs to get done before our first baby arrives!
Ahsley! My baby is coming in 4 days! I have a scheduled c section on the 21st! I woke up and opened youtube and saw this video! I felt like you are talking to me! Thank you so much! I am so happy!
Thank you for the simple baby essentials! 36 weeks pregnant, full time grad student, and on my last two days of the semester (finals week!) then I will get to prepare for her arrival and this video and your other newborn videos are my blueprints! I appreciate you. ❤️🥰
I love the Montessori method. I'm not a purist as it just a method. Agree regarding the sound machine that's not strictly Montessori, but it's not harmful. Unlike the baby holders that can affect their development. Thank you for sharing.
I can completely agree with the baby essentials list feels like it's never ending as someone who has just finshed get ready for my baby to arrive this Christmas season
Your channel is a bless for me. I am expecting 2 little twin girls and I can’t wait to have them here to see them grow and learn with all the Montessori activities and methods that I learned with u in your channel. This is the video I was hoping and searching for for a while now and BAM! you did it in the perfect moment. I’m happy to learn that I already am on the right path to prepare for them to come and oh my god I can’t thank you enough, really! ♥️ Please never stop sharing the Montessori method and your own experience, it’s helping me a lot.
25 weeks with my rainbow baby and I've been watching your videos for weeks now. I'm struggling with confusion so I my therapist said I might want to give the task of getting the essential list ready to MIL. So excited about this video, it gives me the confidence to start it myself.
I have a 9 month old and I have been practicing Montessori at home since ~5 months when I discovered it so I totally missed the newborn phase! 😕 This video made me so EXCITED to have another baby so I can start Montessori from the start😅
Omg this is soo perfecttt and helpful!!!! I’m 34 weeks and due next month. Thank you thank you Ashley!! I definitely listened to your other videos advice with making sure I don’t have these baby “holding” or battery operated devices, it makes so much sense with the way you explained why. I’m excited that you helped me start my Montessori at home journey. I’ll look into the topponcino since it’s my first time hearing about it :) I read up some history about it that they were first designed by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1940s. If you have videos or additional advice on newborn sleeping 101 or napping schedules, that would be great too. Love the video, as always keep it up 💖
Hi Ashley, is it possible to do a video in these series about "your partners involvement in Montessori". About how a spouse/partner can get engaged with kids. That would be great. Thanks.
Returning to this now im past the 20 week scan..... i think im too relaxed about the actual baby but more concerned about my toddler lol. She's amazing but our environment is not one i have much control over or much energy to prepare for in drastic changes that we really need so that my toddler becomes a bit more independent by the time we have the baby. Most of the time it will be a lot of independent open ended and pretend play. Which i guess is fine. Practical life participation and helping out with the care for the newborn is probably what we will have to do but definitely need to work on the routines that will give her more comfort once the baby arrives. And some time without the baby fo connect with me and her grandmother. I feel so much more relaxed this time round having had experience with using Montessori since I found the channel from 4 5 months old.
Ashley, thank you very much! Now I'm waiting for my first child (coming in march), but I was watching your channel for a few years. I actually hadn't any clue of Montessori and stuff before, but thanks to you, now me and my husband are captured by the idea of how we can raise an independent, creative child. And this video came just the right time! :)
Perfect timing for me! 28.5 weeks pregnant with my first. I've been powering through your videos since yesterday. They are so informative. I'm definitely adjusting my registry based on this video. I'm just learning about Montessori, after reading the book "The Continuum Concept", and your videos have been so helpful. I see a lot of areas of overlap, but a lot of differences too. Have you read the book? Do you have any thoughts?
Thank you for this timely video... at least it is for me. I started with my now toddler at about 6 months and now I’ll have a newborn in April so now I can have this information for my second. Love your channel.
36 weeks now and I wish this video is out sooner!! The nursery started minimal but started to get clutter as gifts started flowing in! Lot of returns now I’m going through the items…
This was so informative. I do have a question about movement area, regarding size. I have a room that I want to use and depending on how much space is recommended, I’d either put a twin or full size floor bed there.
Thank you for this video. I am researching the pros/cons of using a pacifier for my new born. Do you/Montessori parenting style advise for or against it?
I’m struggling to figure out witch would be better for my 21 month old baby girl. Kiwico vs lovevry. I watched your vlogs but would you guide me in the right direction. I am currently 4 months pregnant with my second daughter. I would like for her to keep concentration for longer of period of time as well as being entertained. I know it will take practice and time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. I hope you and your family have a great holiday. I will continue to watch your vlogs as I enjoy them and also get great tips! 🎄⛄️🦚I included a peacock cause my daughter loves them. 😊
Hello Ashley, i really enjoy all of your videos. How does baby carrying ( using baby sling or ergonomic baby carier) correspond with Montessori?? I really do not want to get a buggy as we live in a tiny flat and there is no place to store it, so i was really considering baby carrying. Thank you in advance. Best regards!
Thanks for a great video. Can I check what the Montessori view on swaddling a baby the first few months is? Is this viewed as restricting the baby’s natural movement? Are sleep suits preferred?
Thank you for the video! Do you have any recommendations for bassinets? We plan to move to the floor bed around the 4 month mark but want to utilize a bassinet until that point. :)
Love this video!! Would love to know how the movement area changes when baby can crawl & is starting to stand! My son is only 5 months but is almost walking 🤯🙃
I would focus on simply changing out the activities that are available on the shelf to some that are more developmentally appropriate (and I have activities videos that cover all the various age ranges in my playlists, if you need some ideas!) :) Also, if he’s already pulling up - you might consider adding a pull up bar to the mirror, or just a low ottoman for him to pull up on. 👍🏻
Hi! Love your videos. I’m looking at getting a Snoo for my baby- is that not a good idea in regards to it being a ‘baby holding device’ or is that different because it’s only for sleeping?
Thank you for another great video! Have your kids ever taken things out of shelves ecc and taken them all around the house and left them everywhere? This has gotten so much out of hand in my home, and after watching your video I fear this enormous visual clutter is not only affecting me but also my 4mo baby. Do you have any tips on how to keep everything in its place? Greetings from Germany 💐
That’s a daily occurrence! 😂 Nothing too special to recommend other than lots of modeling of the cleaning process, and involving the older sibling(s) when possible as a collaborative cleanup. Oh, and lots of patience! It gets easier as they get a bit older. ☺️
Excellent content as usual. 💖🥰 You actually made me want to have another baby lol This time around I want to do things the Montessori way from the start. ❤️ How did you cook, do laundry, and clean with a newborn when Kylie and Mia were babies? (without restraining them into some kind of bouncer)?
Sometimes while I was wearing them in a wrap or carrier, or sometimes I would just have them nearby (within my sight) on the floor for some independent play time. ☺️
@@HapaFamily Thank you so much for your response! 🥰 I will definitely be following your advice when the time comes around, since my husband and I are planning to have a baby soon. 💓

Thank you for this video, I am due in 2 weeks and needed a recap of these. I am working on the movement space, but I am worried of my 2.5 YO jumping on baby sister. Any advice ô how to secure that space?
Just create a movement area for baby that is kind of off to the side or tucked away in a corner where he/she is not directly in the middle of everything happening. My oldest was a brand new two-year-old when the baby was born, and we never had any issues. Supervision is always going to be key under the age of three!
Did you notice any dependence on the black-out curtains or sound machine with your two when they where little? I would want my kids to be able to fall asleep in different places without to much of a fuss.
Haha! Totally what I said. Then my babies slept dreadfully without black outs and white noise and sleeping bags. Now I’ll do anything for a good nights sleep!!
They both still use them in their rooms, even at 21 months and almost 4 years. But at the same time, they will also fall asleep in broad daylight in the car or while I’m holding them if they’re tired enough. I’m sure there will come a day that they don’t need them anymore, but in the meantime, it’s just too simple and easy to forgo it, and it’s a guarantee that they will sleep well... so why not? 🥰
I am 9 and my grandmother told mme when I was young, I use to sleep for five minutes and wake up. Then when my mother put me to sleep again after five minutes I use to wake up 🤣🤣
Thank you so much for your videos! I have a question 🙋🏼♀️ I put in my registry all toys with neutral colors, but then found a topic which says that babies like the bright colors more and it helps their vision develop. And it’s why the majority of toys made with bright colors. Is it true? Does some studies about neutral colors exist and proven ?
Newborns can only see in black-and-white, their color vision doesn’t really start to develop for a few weeks. But even then, it’s not so much about not having bright colors at all, so much as it is not overdoing it with the bright colors all over the place and making everything look super overstimulating. Aim for a neutral pallette, with pops of color here and there! 😉
Hi, idk if this has been asked, but if I want to do a Montessori bed but want to cosleep in the same room, can I just use baby gates instead of providing a whole room? Would this work?
I have a question re putting high contrast images beside the changing table. Is that even a good idea? Aren’t you supposed to put the baby’s focus on you by talking to them while changing?
You don’t always have to talk to them while changing/not every change. It’s just a good opportunity to do so. That’s like saying you have to talk to your partner every single time you sit down for a meal. It’s not natural. Doing socially what’s natural is what’s best.
I really wanted to give this lifestyle a shot. but thinking on it; it doesn't suit my personality. I thinks it clashes a bit too much for. I really ;ole spme aspects of Montessori but others not so much. Mostly, the bedroom. i just feel most comfy with a crib in there otherwise I d be up all night worrying what's going on in there. Alive? hurt? roamin around too much? ON the movement area I dont so much at I like ( or at least the idea of) a bouncer or wrap in case I have a load of chores to do. The toys I love bc I hate those battery operated toys anyway. they're annoying and I feel like they don't reach the child anything. I've always been a minimalist person so i feel like all I need is a LoveEvery sub and some STEM Toys for later. Idk, there's a lot I like about Montessori. Im also legally Blind too so i think a lot just stems from not being able to keep the closest eye on my baby. ( poorbaby, theyre gonna that mam may trip over them if too close to my feet) Even if I don't embrace the entire life hopefully I can incorporate as much as I can. i love your channel and will continue to watch. so I can learn more about this. Thank you for all your videos
I discuss the timing for each of them in the tutorial videos! :) But if you need a quick at-a-glance, it would be: Munari: 3-6 weeks old Octahedron: 5-8 weeks old Gobbi: 7-10 weeks old Dancers: 8-12 weeks old
So if you have a toddler already, how do you lay the newborn on the floor without worrying about them being trampled by the older sibling. I have a 2 week old and a 23 month old who would just be all over her the second I lay her down. I'd be nervous about the younger one getting hurt by the older one
Under three, supervision is key! My daughter just turned two (literally, two days before) when our second was born, and we managed just fine without any major incidents. ☺️👍🏻 Just find a little corner that’s kind of out of the way to create the movement area, so the baby isn’t in the middle of everything that’s going on.
I would say if you had a 4 and 6 year old hopping and jumping boys...movement time is completely supervised and if you need to lie them down...I set up a minicrib with a mirror on the outside and a mobile on top for looking and rolling time or a nap while I worked. Girls often are much gentler than boys. I am expecting my 8th and I love this set up as it allows them all time with the baby, but when I am not able to 100 percent supervise the baby has a happy place. Now soft baby wraps are amazing when they are awake and you want the little one to be with you and you can always also wrap the bigger baby while letting the little one have floor time...that is a win win as well. Making a routine rotating these allows everyone to learn how the baby's days will go and when they can expect a turn cuddling the littlest one.
**NOTE: It is NOT safe nor recommended to leave an infant sleeping unsupervised on a topponcino, or any other loose bedding material. Please supervise your newborn or infant while using a topponcino at ALL times. My references in this video to allowing your baby to nap on a topponcino were only intended to mean 100% supervised sleep (e.g. in a caregiver’s arms while using the topponcino, or on top of an otherwise safe sleep surface immediately next to the caregiver who is awake and directly observing the infant.)
Thank you, Ashley

Yep she was hinting towards wanting another in one of their question time vids! Mike didn't seem too keen though haha
Exactly what I was thinking!

@@ntmn8444 I kept her in a bassinet until she was about 3 months old.

@@HapaFamily thank you!! Yes I have watched all your activity videos 🥰 and I love your ecourse it’s been amazing.
For the interlocking discs, do you recommend the ones that separate or the ones that don’t?
@@HapaFamily thank you! 💜
Excellent content as usual. 💖🥰
You actually made me want to have another baby lol
This time around I want to do things the Montessori way from the start. ❤️
How did you cook, do laundry, and clean with a newborn when Kylie and Mia were babies?
Now you've got us all confused Ashley!🤔 ....but great video as always!
How long should I expect my baby to be able to play independently in the beginning?
Is there a new Hapa baby on the way? 🤞🥰
The suspense is killing me now! You're glowing! 🤔❤
Oh my goodness the fact that she liked this makes me really think there might be!!!🥰
Did you notice any dependence on the black-out curtains or sound machine with your two when they where little? I would want my kids to be able to fall asleep in different places without to much of a fuss.
Haha! Totally what I said. Then my babies slept dreadfully without black outs and white noise and sleeping bags. Now I’ll do anything for a good nights sleep!!
@@alicefirth9799 I'm an adult w autism and I cant sleep without black out curtains and sound machine so I'm already ready!
I have a question 🙋🏼♀️
I put in my registry all toys with neutral colors, but then found a topic which says that babies like the bright colors more and it helps their vision develop.
@@HapaFamily Thank you so much for your answer!
I will leave a registry with neutral colors then, I am sure people will give colorful stuff anyways 😆
Hi, idk if this has been asked, but if I want to do a Montessori bed but want to cosleep in the same room, can I just use baby gates instead of providing a whole room? Would this work?
Hello my baby is 2 and a half months old. Is it too late to start this?
What about a seatbelt for a highchair.
What color did you paint your wall?
I have a question re putting high contrast images beside the changing table. Is that even a good idea? Aren’t you supposed to put the baby’s focus on you by talking to them while changing?
You don’t always have to talk to them while changing/not every change. It’s just a good opportunity to do so. That’s like saying you have to talk to your partner every single time you sit down for a meal. It’s not natural. Doing socially what’s natural is what’s best.
Ughhh I wish I had this video back before I had Ford 😩
What do you do if you have dogs you can’t really put them on the floor
Where should the movement area be?
2 veiws , 2 minutes ago. I am early this time 🙂
Oh Wow. You got a like
What is the time frames do you introduce each of the mobiles?
I discuss the timing for each of them in the tutorial videos! :) But if you need a quick at-a-glance, it would be:
Munari: 3-6 weeks old
Octahedron: 5-8 weeks old
Gobbi: 7-10 weeks old
Dancers: 8-12 weeks old
Would we discountinue the gobbi mobile when you get the dancers mobile
This is the only topic you missed in the series
OMG! i thought you were pregnant! :)
Are you expecting another young one ? X
Pregnant?
Haha, no. ☺️
I love the blunt question haha
