The Simpsons were a series of sketches on The Tracey Ullman Show but made it’s network debut as a series and aired it’s pilot episode on December 17th, 1989 to moderately high ratings and thirteen episodes for the first season and the rest is history.
The woman at the end of the intro is Ayanna Wade. You've seen her a few times, like in the commercials and Alvin and the Chipmunks reviews. She played Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad video and Beverley in the IT video
- Not surprised, yet still disappointed - The Halloween specials always have a parody of a movie or tv series. Last Halloween they had one on Death Note - Originally it was Marge who was going to have the church vision but the writers realised it wouldn't had made sense for the family to ignore her. So they changed it so it was Grampa who's always spouting nonsense in the series
I personally have a soft spot for this movie despite me myself not having seen any episodes that weren’t Treehouse of Horror. I have quite a few laughs whenever I see this movie. My favorite joke is when Homer gets in the back of the car after dumping the silo and then demanding his pig to drive before he realizes “oh yeah. Pig” and gets back in the driver seat. Always makes me giggle like a school child. And yes, I do still find “Spider-Pig” funny, and I have no shame about it.
I always felt that The Simpsons movie starts off feeling like an episode of the show and shifts into a movie format at the dome. It almost feels like its an intentional pacing shift
Fun fact: Nail bullets IS REALLY A THING. They exist as 0.22 caliber blanks which are used to drive steel nails into concrete or iron. It is used in a literal single shot nail gun which requires the blank to create the compression force with air to drive the nail into those materials.
Let's be real, you did this because you got cold feet with the animated Lord of the Rings film. Duck, you must know, there’s no running from the Bakshi. He will look for you. He will find you. And he'll want to be roomies with you.

The Simpsons really is something special. It deserves something like a highlights reaction out of you, like a curated best-episodes list. After a rough first season, the show got so good that the run between seasons three and eight is considered possibly the best run in the history of television. And the movie felt like one final little hurrah to celebrate those glory days.

@theduckgoesmoo same But your dodging the question. One of these days I would love to hear your life's story and how you got this far in life without eat a banana!
Most people haven't watch Simpsons in years, so I don't blame you on not watching it. The most I seen nowdays is people playing the classic seasons on their Disney+ in the background. This movie or the Death Note parody was one of the rare times people will tune in back into the show briefly. Maggie the baby never grows up unless it's a one off "20 years in the future" episode or something. The cast been the same age since the show begin. It's funny from what I been hearing about the newest episodes of Pokemon having Ash leaving the show and winning the tournament while Simpsons to this day is still ongoing.
To me, it felt like while they got the writers from the golden era of The Simpsons to work on the movie but then someone from Fox decided to put a writer from Zombie Simpsons in charge who insisted on giving us the dreaded Jerkass Homer. It’s funny that first Futurama DVD Movie came out the same year and it was so much better.
I never watched the series as a kid myself, my parents actually did their job and wouldn't let me. And honestly, I still don't really follow it. I have seen a couple episodes later on in life, mostly the Treehouse of Horror episdoes, as well as NUMEROUS clips on RUclips.
When it comes to people saying “I’ve never seen The Simpsons”, I usually give that one a pass, but only because I grew up knowing several kids whose families did not allow them to watch the show and by the time they got older, they developed an “animation is for children” mindset for several years and then after that, the series started going downhill and it would dissuade anybody from checking it out. They’d know the characters and most popular gags if only because memes and how big they are in pop culture (it’s like people who say they’ve never heard The Beatles but would still recognise a song because a cover was in a movie or they would know the members because they were all good artists in their own rights), but they would not be able to tell you what happened in certain episodes which are so beloved in the fandom (or loathed) that they get referred to by title in discussion.
I feel like it isn't crazy that you haven't watched The Simpsons. While it has been very long-running, its prime was way past your birthday and now it just coasts on nostalgia itself. I was too young to catch it's early years, but old enough to have watched toward the end of what many fans consider the golden era and I too have barely seen the show outside of clips.
The Simpsons shorts are a series of animated short films that aired as a recurring segment on Fox variety television series The Tracey Ullman Show for three seasons, before the characters spun off into The Simpsons, their own half-hour prime-time show.
See, the weird thing is, that I've never watched an episode of the Simpson's either. BUT I've watched a lot, and I mean A LOT, of clips from the show on youtube. I also played the Simpsons Movie Game for a while but stopped because I got motion sickness and seemingly had a glitch stopping me from completing the second chapter.
I never really watched the Simpsons growing up. I had about four channels that I watched, and whatever Simpsons was on was not one of them. I know about them, and I knew about some of the jokes, but I don't think I've ever watched a full episode. But I have watched the movie an unhealthy number of times, because it was one of the few DVDs I had for a few months when I didn't have any internet outside of my phone data.
