    I really like the Outstanding to Parent Contact system. At my kindergarten, there's rarely any consequences for disruptive behaviors. The most serious one is to sit down for a minute or play somewhere, which doesn't help children to realize bullying, hitting, or screaming are not acceptable.

      Punishing kids by taking away field trips is so cruel and old-fashioned. There was nothing wrong with you. It's our system of education in the United States, the long hours, the stuffy classrooms, the lack of movement, lack of support for families, the insane corporate expectations on kids and over-worked teachers--- these are the problem.

It also makes sure you are not always calling the same student who volunteers all the time. Congrats on teaching 7 years!

    • @kennedikewl
      @kennedikewl 5 лет назад +5

      Linny Cin you don’t have to speak a child’s native language to teach them yours. In college, you learn how to teach English language learners without speaking their language with the use of pictures, dual language books, speaking to them, etc....

    • @barnett702

      It still must be hard. My daughter is kinder and there are spanish only kids. Very hard for the teacher to communicate. Even other bilingual students have to translate. It has to take extra time, I believe.

    Not that I’m suggesting that you teach anything about sexuality yard like that. Those are controversial subjects I try to avoid. But I don’t use pink For girls and blue always for boys. Sometimes they let them pick and occasionally have boys that really want pink. Or I have girls that went blue. Not being critical just not limiting people to stereotypes

      This may be true, cause if my son got off to bad start or a bad color it’s like he could not turn his day around, he would be so focused on the fact that he was on a “bad color” it may be effective if you can move back up to green if you change your behavior around.

    • @kathrynohearn4670
      @kathrynohearn4670 4 года назад +3

      I am a teacher, and there are many studies that you can read online that have found that behavioral management systems like clip charts create a culture of shame and negative self-worth for kids. There are plenty of less public ways to address behavior for kids, including giving them consequences. If I have a student struggling with their behavior, the last thing I want to do is make them feel even worse by allowing all of their classmates to see that their name is constantly at the bottom of the chart. In addition, so many of the students we teach have been through significant childhood trauma and by embarrassing them on a daily basis, we are re-shaming them and reinforcing negative beliefs they may have about themselves. I don’t know of a single teacher at my school who uses a clip chart. I teach upper elementary now, but used to teach kinder, and I never used one. I also stopped using negative points on Class DoJo and stopped displaying the points all day long.
