    The first one was pretty good. It's a good thing the cooler can be removed to empty and clean as needed. The bottle cap holder needs a slide out bottom for emptying the caps into a bag. Or you could put a bag in there in the first place but clip it in place so it doesn't fall in. Otherwise it was an awesome idea.

      It would be easiest if the cap catcher is wide enough and shallow enough so that you can reach in with your hand and pull out the caps. Otherwise, a magnet can pull out the bottle caps. (I haven't drunk from a bottle with a cap in years.) Other things: Even cedar fencing needs to be treated to avoid decay. He used Titebond Premium Wood Glue (1:04), which is waterproof, but not all wood glues are suitable for projects that get wet, so choose your glue carefully. Personally, I don't have space for a permanent cooler stand that I would rarely use, but that's just me.

    I've got a better use if you have a backyard. I've been using various coolers just like that as a fireproof, burglarproof safe for valuables you would store in an expensive safe. I bury them in a nice garden setting with the top at ground level. Put a paving/flagstone type over the spot. Been doing this for decades.

    3 things about making the first cooler. It looks great, but be sure to use *waterproof* wood glue and apply an all- weather sealer to the wood. Finally, how are you supposed to remove the bottle caps from that narrow cap catcher? 🤔 I'd probably make a removable receptacle to hang below the bottle opener or just flatten one side of a small tin bucket to hang flush against the cooler case under the opener.😁

    Love the cooler first cooler video. I agree with others that the same type of cooler used in the first video would work as well for the video of the ottoman & provide much support, but what an awesome way to reuse a styrofoam cooler that probably be taking up space in a landfill somewhere. Saw some of the comments & wanted to mention that I have watched the DIYer in the first video on several other projects & he is very thorough so I am sure he left an opening for the drain spout & also a way to remove bottle caps from container easily. Only so much time can be allotted to DIY projects shown on HT, so I’m sure he had to keep most info specific to the cooler housing build info. Wanted to ask if anyone happens to know his name or if he has his own channel I could look up? Really like his attention to detail on instructions. TIA

    The ottoman cooler needed the excess fabric cut away from where the lid fits. You could adhere tape trim to cover the edges & not interfer w the lid closing. The suggestion of adding some foam or pillow on top is a good one. The only problem I see w using this for an actual cooler vs a storage ottoman is pouring the water out & getting the fabric wet & nasty.

  • @ShiftyGearz
    @ShiftyGearz Год назад

    Filling the insulating hollow areas with foam/anything has the opposite effect. The hollow area is designed to creat a chilled area around the cooler space so the ambient doesnt draw the chill out of the inside.
    When u fill that area it acts as a heated/warm blanket sucking the coolness out even faster. Depends on the outside temp i guess

      Also, the styrofoam cooler is going to be demolished the first time someone plops some heavy feet on it, or if someone thinks that it’s an actual piece of furniture and sits on it! It would have been better to construct a wood box to encase an inexpensive styrofoam cooler, making it sturdier.
