One really awesome way to revitalize your love for Sea of Thieves is to help new players! I had one of my best SoT experiences by helping a new player reach Pirate Legend. She got so good at the game that we started doing duo sloop hourglass battles for months on end and it was a blast!

I stopped doing open crew a couple of years ago; a few days ago I tried it again just because I wanted some random shenanigans (and as this video recommends, I went into it without any expectations); however, I was instantly reminded as to why I stopped - I just can't play with squeaky-voiced 10-year-olds. It's super fun matching up with new players and showing them around the game - but only if they're mature enough to appreciate effort it takes to teach people things. --- It's not fun sailing with young children who always talk, never listen and refuse to learn.
Preach bro. Preeeeeeach. I did open crew a for awhile but stopped because it was either one of two thing. I would either be sent to the brig by the crew because 'Hur hur' or i would be matched up with children who would not know how to play the game, think they know how to play the game, make mistakes and then blame it on everyone else. All while screeching like toddlers. yeah open crew is more often than not a Russian roulette with only ONE empty shot.
@@OddNess9339 for sure! Open crew should have a "match with age +/-" filter (or better yet, you shouldn't be allowed into open crew if you haven't 100%'d the maiden voyage).

@@RafeArcher Match with age would be a nice option, for both parties I think, but also the option to match with similar achievements or achievement points in the game.
I fell in love with the game, played it most nights for roughly 3 years, had some of my best moments in gaming, completed all the content that I cared about, got all the cosmetics and the gold curse and soloed to level 105 in hourglass, I even got to lvl 1000 in my guild. Then one day I logged on and then...I logged off. Not played now for maybe 6 months. I didn't like the new updates and new level cap so that played a part too. These days I'm addicted to Diablo 4. Happy sailing, hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did.
I've always sympathized with situations like this, and the best way I got past that was... I started playing games to have fun with my friends. Not to simply complete missions and earn money. Some breaks are always good to have too.

despite myself having almost 2k hours into the game and a crew that has expressed interest in playing again we cannot bring ourselves to set foot aboard the Keel-Joy. We lost our first mate earlier this year, this was his favorite game and we all struggle finding the motivation to play this game without him.

It may be super hard to get through, emotionally, but maybe get another group and do glitterbeard in your mate's honor. That may help you get closure for them.
Returned recently after not having played for 8 months and im enjoying it again. Theres lots of small things I want changed in this game but im looking forward to season 14
I was thinking about this recently, generally I don't really enjoy PVP games at all anymore, it seems most PVP games suffer from the same issues, lazy/ out of touch devs, toxic player bases, a painful push of microtransactions, they're all falling to the same fate, though SOT is a little different
Honestly I think the big issue with SOT is one that will never be solved because of its fairly lacking player count, the game just needs match making
to start, this game still suffers from the same issues most pvp games suffer from, god i can't tell you how much the "its a pirate game" bores me so, it took me a good while to get decent at this game as it has a massive learning curve, but getting good yourself is one thing, trying to get your friends involved is another entirely and I've noticed the same thing with everyone I've tried to get into this game and generally notice this with most noobs, they just hate the combat.
Its a shame because the combat experience in this game, when its right its the most unique and fun pvp experience you'll find, but the learning curve is so steep that you find noobs spending hours trying to make money and actively avoiding fights, because they just get shit on all the time, that makes it even harder to learn, this game takes a whole lot of patience that not everyone has, I haven't played for a while but obviously there was a cheating problem for ages on top of all this, idk what that's like now but it was a real problem not to long ago.
Its always the case that noobs struggle to learn and are commonly fearful of any confrontations, very likely because of experiences they've already had with the game, experienced players just shit all over less experienced players and though the game its self is very balanced, as everyone has the same access to the same things, the actual experience difference between players is what makes things unfair, its so rare to actually find a fight in this game that feels fair, and the vast majority of people i've tried to get into this game just have not found the same love for the game that i have for this exact reason, its time consuming and commonly not only unrewarding but very frustrating, I think this is the experience most new players have and this is a BIG problem when trying to build a solid audience.
I seriously think if servers had some sort of real match making system the game would be sooo much more palatable for less experienced players, imagine if new players didn't have to be terrified of confrontation because the fights felt fair much more commonly, I seriously think it'd make a huge difference to not only the general experience but the overall health of the game, but no, the experience for people trying to learn the game seems to always be the same, and it was the same for me for ages aswell, it took me a ton of time to not be scared of confrontation in this game, it would feel more fair, they would learn alot faster, it'd just work better, rather than trying to avoid people and then having some toxic cunt who has nothing better to do than spend all day playing the game chase you down, waste hours of your time and finish it with the common cherry on top "its a pirate game" bullshit everyone likes to throw around to justify shitting on players much less experienced than themselves.
had the same experience than you. But recently got tired about sea of thieves and tried Hunt:showdown. Probably best pvp experience I ever had. I havent found any toxicity for now, and even some holysome moments that made me love the game (even playing with randoms like im doing).
@@alexandervp6180 I've taken my approach to competitive gaming very differently now, I'm not really very interested in standard pvp games for reasons i've listed, instead I've moved to things like speedruns of my favourite games, you find speedrunning communities are so much less toxic, infact everyone wants eachother to do well and its great, its all completely fair and is based on absolutely nothing but your own skill and determination, there are really no other variables involved and its a much more satisfying competitive experience.
I saw myself smiling watching this video. Being all alone now that my crewmates stopped playing the game is quite sad, but it's nice to see sometimes you can get a cool game with open crew.

It’s true. Switching up your games really helps keeping your enjoyment. I play sea of thieves usually for hapf the season until i get the pass done and explored the new stuff, and then i go back to age of empires 4, or playing a story game.having other games and hobbies just makes the whole experience just way more fun, because having a bad day on sea of thieves won’t instantly throw you off since you can just go play another game. When I come across people who don't find fun in games any more, I get quite sad for them. I think it's a very defeatist attitude, the way people say that "games aren't what they used to be" or "x game isn't fun any more", how they pine for more innocent memories of days gone by.
“I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.” is a common sentiment. The reality is you are in the good old days. You'll always look back with a level of fondness, even through darker times. The trick is also finding gratitude during your present day.
If you're in a game, alone or not, and you find yourself smiling for whatever reason, take a moment to savour it. You're in the good old days.
I think many games have become a chore rather than a free time thing to enjoy. Season passes and achievements has added a layer of stress to some people, which paired with the tendency for games to have toxic players becomes overwhelming and then they quit. When I ask people why they quit SoT, they say it's because they never felt like they could finish things before new stuff was added. It was always a race to get the curses, get the whatever cool cosmetics, finish the season pass. I think more streamers have to be chill like you, and remind people that it's just a game and you don't HAVE to speed run everything. Just enjoy the vibes and have fun :D
A couple buddies and i were doing our guilded voyages this past weekend when a brig pulled up on us right at the end, so we quick lowered our emissary and blew all 3 of them out of the water
Ever since I finished all of my trading companies, my motivation for SoT really slowed down, even more so now that I want the pvp curses.
Maybe I'll come back and try this method and see what happens.

No way to confirm but I'm pretty sure that default galleon that scuttled was me lmao, I was trying to match into my friend also solo galleon so we could fight each other for fun
You can also grind HG. That made the game fun for me again after I finished all of the PvE stuff, and was just tired of getting demolished. Now I'm pretty much invincible in high seas. As a side affect, you will get super annoyed at most people's takes on game balance; because they literally have no idea what they're talking about.

Me and my wife sail together. I consider myself incredibly lucky we both have someone to play co-op together else I can imagine playing online when you don't have anyone to play with can be a lonely and sometimes miserable experience.
In one hour glass match for me we both ended up getting tired because it was getting late and so we both decided that whoever gets a higher dice roll with a D 20 would be the winner and the loser with scuttle their ship. I rolled a 19 he rolled a 16.
I have over 5k hours but haven’t enjoyed the game since 2022 mostly due to the updates and a lack of a crew anymore since they all got tired of the game or life happened. It would be nice if there was matchmaking for different crew sizes I think. With the option to join servers with larger ships too of course.

The probably with my experience in sea of thieves is that 80% of the people I meet only want to attack you. I'm not that good at pvp and I have pretty much reached my potential and the only person left who sails with me is my friend who plays on Xbox and controlled, so he's not that great at pvp either. All my other friends have quit because they don't like the pvping and always got frustrated when we would be playing for a few hours and then got rolled up on and sunk and now all the time we just spent in the game had been erased.
My friend and I were playing the other day. We got rolled up on twice, once about 1.5 hours into playing, and then again about 4 hours into playing. We ended up losing everything both times. We've been playing since launch and we've gotten to the point where we don't know if we are going to continue playing, not because we don't like the game but because we don't like the majority of the people we meet while playing the game. I'd much rather play something else instead of a game that turns me into a terrible version of myself when things go bad.
We'd play on safer seas, but safer seas is SOOOO bad for experienced players. With 30% loot value, not being able to work on a lot of the things you can work on on live servers, there really isn't any incentive to play on it.

If all you've had is solo and the oddly good open crew, you dont. 95% of interactions Ive had in this game are toxic. I captured a burning blade and a Rick and Morty fan and a kid joined. The kid got stuck, so we brigged him, and then the guy mocked the kid till he left. The game and mods are genuinely traumatizing
If that's traumatizing, then you have never had real trauma. Grow a thicker skin. You would not have survived the MW2 days, that's for sure.

Again? I never stopped. I have to admit tho the only thing that would make this game better is if other people used voice chat more often. I'm perfectly fine with getting destroyed and all my loot taken if the opponent at least talked or said gg. I miss the old days of Halo 2 where everyone would talk in the lobby and you'd make friends. You can still find people like that, but way more rare.
Had a galeon ally. No crew only l/ they left. he seen someone attacking our brig. Full on hit them and sunk them. They were cheaters also but soa allows it. No cheat report

Sea of Thieves has been in the gutters for the past 3 years. The game has been running on fumes, development is incosistent and the entire SoT team consists of pretentiously optimistic people, who lie and has been unable to gauge their workload for 5 years.
The only thing that was exciting about being an active player of SoT was the promises, because the team always promised way more than what they had in actuality, and once the lackluster version of a feature has been put into the game, it'll go at least 2 years unsupported

I love the game, sadly the SA servers are so full of ego and pvp toxicity (not to mention cheaters), that for every 10 interactions, 2 of them usually are very good and 1 very bad, the very bad one gets me so off the game that i have to take a week+ break from it.. just wished that i could have more positive interactions, maybe would still be playing it all weekends.

If you play the game like nothing matters, the only thing that matters are the experiences themselves. Those experiences arr dhaped by people, and people in this game are some of the most toxic I have ever seen. It doesnt work Phuzzy
I dont like the game anymore because, the whole original reason I started playing was Tall Tales.
Im tired of some asshole rocking my shit every time I am trying to find a damn gem by looking at the stars.
I dont have fun with the PvP of the game, and Safer Seas wall off half the games content where I cant do them.
I understand its a pirate game, people are gonna steal your loot, I am fine with that.
But noone gets ANYTHING from stealing the Tall Tale loot. You cant sell it at outposts or hideouts, and even the T.T. loot you CAN sell like the chests that hold the items, give measly rewards in return.
Nothing ruins my day more than after HOURS of minding my own business, just killing skeletons and fishing, than being rode up on by some 1000hr Pirate Legend Brigantine unloading every single cursed cannonball in the game at me all at once. I just stopped fighting back at this point, I try to make peace first even giving them all my treasure.
But as soon as they fire on me, I immediately just leave the fuckn game.
I know how to do Naval combat. I know about Right/Left side advantage on separate ships, I know the best times to bildge, I know the right times to adjust sails. I know to shut my lanturns off, I know to never leave your anchor down, I know to hide your ship, I know how to do all the goofy movement mechanics, I know whos role is what, I know about the water level, pet chest trick, I know about all that stuff. But you can know EVERYTHING and it still requires practice.
Not only do I just not want to practice, because PvP in SOT is not fun to me, but I also dont have the time for it.
I have a life and a job, I do not have the time to practice and get good with all these fuckn PvP features. I dont know why Rare even added Tall Tales and PvE in the way that they did. Like it encourages you to leave PvP, but in the end thats waisted time you arent using to get better at it. Because you decided to spend 4 hours on Monkey Island, some other sweat has gained +4 more hours of experience fighting and are now better than you. All because you wanted to roleplay as an adventure seeking pirate, instead of a cutthroat swashbuckler.
So TL;DR, I had a LOT of fun with the game, but I cant do it anymore
Not in the way the game currently is. And unless Rare makes a way for non PvP sweatlords to level up rep in a way that dosent require getting their shit rocked constantly? Then I prob will never come back on my own. Only comming back when a friend wants to play.
SOT has nothing left to offer me. Why would I keep playing if I am not having fun. To me 90% of PvP is not fun. Tall Tales, PvE, and solving riddles is fun.

FUCK SOT! people stopped enjoying the game since the release of the stupid mode you call Hourglasss!! more cheaters because of this mode and less people on adventure! if you want to enjoy SoT again! they have to remove Hourglass entirely. Force people to go on adventures! make more tall tales! more new quests every 6 months at least! Bring Arena back and put all the curses that you get from HG there! that's how you enjoy SoT again. I bet my account that the game will die again after 2 weeks in the new season. I lost my 12 crew members they all stopped playing. THANKS RARE!
Do you know how bad everyone would be without HG? I was. I mean if you want to remove the only real way to git gud, and have me stay in the top 5% of players forever as new players come in, and the skill gap widens, then whatever; but it seems like a terrible idea.

Few years ago it was one of the beste, if not the best, adventure sandbox game. Nowadays it's just another PvP game.
Agree with you. Such a nice game before, lore, friends, simple etc... Now it's almost only toxic crews like playing Rocket League, not much lore, too many things everywhere, PvP everywhere.
