New MCLAREN 620R! My First Drive at the Nurburgring

- My first drive in the brand new McLaren 620R! My friend Robert has just taken delivery of the latest McLaren, instantly drove it at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and has now let me take the keys to see what it's about. Nicknamed the 'baby Senna', there's nowhere better to put it to the test than a full lap at the Green Hell
Adding to Robert's extensive garage that features the Ferrari 488 Pista, McLaren 675LT, Porsche GT2 RS MR (Apex Taxi) and more, the McLaren 620R has been bought with the intention to be driven hard on the famous Green Hell. Having literally taken delivery of it at the entrance to the loop during a track day, Robert's very first kms were on the Nordschleife itself and now with just over 400km on the clock it hasn't spent much time anywhere else.
The McLaren 620R is another track focused variant of the Sports Series, different from the 600LT in the sense that it's based on the 570S GT4 car and carries through elements like adjustable coilovers, wheels ready to wear slicks, a huge fixed wing, s-ducts for front aero, and a snorkel over the roof for cooling to the 620hp 3.8l TT V8. The official build run was due to be 350 cars however this is now expected to be a smaller number due to the current global circumstances. Inside it features the Senna's bucket seats, a cage and harnesses, and can be configured without options like the air conditioning and sound system should the customer prefer.
After driving recently in the BMW M8 Shmeemobile behind Robert running in the 620R, he has kindly allowed me to take a drive, and not just any drive, but a lap of the full N24 circuit at the Nürburgring that includes a run around the Grand-Prix Strecke followed by the full Nordschleife. In doing so, and with Robert away from the Ring, I'm also joined by Misha to come along for an enjoyable spirited drive during Touristenfahrten, where the Ring operates as a public toll road where normal road rules apply.

Tim, you really made the best of the Covid situation. I like the Nordschleife movies a lot better than a lot of other things like some hyper-exclusive car rallies somewhere in the world. These have been really good months - I hope you will continue to do a lot of things on the Ring in the future. Thanks.
Archie Hamilton has loads of racing experience, but his on track content isn't anyway near as good as Shmee's. It is remarkable how quickly he has mastered the Green Hell, irrespective of the car he is driving.

Could I suggest a 4th rear camera....would add to the viewer experience
It would mean making the other screens smaller so it would also take away some. I think a roof mount 360 camera would be awesome, with a in picture cockpit camera.

Brandon maybe there’s scope to swap the cameras out during the longer vids, or flick to the rear view if someone is chasing him down (in the MR 911 usually 😂).

I have to say , after watching your last few videos of track action in the GT , Senna , GTR pro and 620 your driving has improved so so much and I just had to applaud you giving yours and Tim's pride and joys some serious stick ... The videos were so enjoyable to watch and I take my hat off to you for not treating the cars like garage queens - congrats and keep safe .

I thought the 620R display was like the senna display where switch from the normal display to the race display but it doesn’t I am surprised about that because it is my first time seeing the inside of a 620R
It's based on the Sports Series models as opposed to the Super Series so shares that dashboard

Just a beautiful car. Black beauty. Maybe my fav of Robert's "babies". Right there with the Pista. I'm glad that Robert went with the subtle look with the Apex decals. Reminds me of the way some police cars are fitted in my neck of the woods.

Excellent point at the end. There is no 'best' car. There are tools for jobs, and this looks like a great one for the job of having a laugh at the Nürburgring.

Just wanted to say, this new triple camera layout is super cool for track stuff like this. I know you often talk about how you prefer minimum gear so you can be a bit lighter on your feet for capturing whatever, so thanks for adding this little extra touch. Also, those “darth Vader breathing” sounds, is that the intake (roof scoop)?? That’s crazy if it is.
