- So Genesis invited me over to Korea for the launch of the G70! I thought, as usual, you guys might like a tour of the car from a non-technical car guy. I show off the different features, the design and some important specs. :)

This car is damn beautiful, exterior and interior, I would pick this vehicle over a 3 series BMW or a Audi A4 in a heartbeat and a C Class Mercedes Benz the reliability is awesome from Hyundai.
True that. If Hyundai doesn't get too greedy with their new entry into the luxury sport sedan segment by asking too high a price, they could very well get some solid base and do very well in selling this model.

In any event It is definitely worth a comparison based on specs alone.
I have read many reviews of it's first year and have heard on youtube with minor problems and some with major like all first year cars, mostly computer and electronic related.
The quad is in a class by it's own.
Having said that , have you actually driven one?
Having now owned 2 Hyundai's and them both being the best cars Ive owned, I cant wait for this to come out. Watch out BMW, this is (now) a major competitor! Love it!

The rear looks like a S class & BMW 6 series mixed. I love it
I'm impressed by how nice the interior is despite this being the cheapest Genesis. They basically kept all features from the G80 but in a smaller package with slightly less nice materials. The rear seats look tight but normal for this category. I'm glad they didn't really remove any important features.

I saw the G70 at the Feb auto show and was truly impressed at how luxurious it feel. I’ve driven Lexus 350 and Infiniti Q60 but this G70 is something else. Especially the interior, can’t beat it. I’m seriously looking at buying it.

I just had the 3.3TT version for 2.5 days and the sun was shining with ZERO rain. I live in Vancouver & am a car guy.
Here are the 3 negatives: (a) The back seat doesn't accommodate anyone over 5'9" for a journey lasting over 30 minutes. (b) The long term reliability and trade-in value is a HUGE question mark (c) the vectoring is brake applied to the inside wheel- Lots of grabbing going on during spirited driving.
Now, onto the Positives - EVERYTHING ELSE!!
This handles like a go cart (it is a Compact car) the steering wheel feels right, the turning radius is one of the best, It has 5 ride selections, the tech is in abundance, the seats can be sporty or comfy, that engine - torque & HP is ample (4.7 seconds from 0-60), the sight-lines are excellent, HUD displays whats needed, the adaptive cruise works really well, the 15 speaker Lexicon sound system is very good.
I can go on and on.
The summary is this- If you want a Value filled 4 door vehicle that looks great, has an AWESOME interior, is quick & fast when u want it to be, has the latest tech and your mother-in-law will like it too b/c in comfort mode it drives very smoothly then this is a big contender vs the Germans, Japanese and maybe Cadillac.
Its an all in price for the 3.3TT V-6 of $57,500 Cdn.
Book a test drive and see for yourself. Excellent compact 4 door sedan and if u enjoy assertive driving try the 3.3TT. Too much fun!!
Also, the personal touch and customer service is a huge marketing advantage for them.

I have beend to the dealerships. these babies are going to take the competition to lunch in the future. I hope they bring back the coupes.
The side-scoop is functional. It vents air from the front over the wheel to aid in stability and cool breaks. Granted they aren't very large vents but they are functional.
This car is loaded to its gills. at the price point they are offering, this is valuetown. Very exciting things coming out of the korean market these days.

kwaseb probably similar to stinger in price range. from 33k for 2.0 v4 twin turbo base models and up to 45k for loaded 3.3 v6 twin turbo. or maybe just little more than that since it's branded as genesis whereas kia is just.. kia.
I4, not V4 . . . also, I thing the turbo 4 is a single turbo.
I think I'd take this almost ANY Japanese competitor (Main reason is overall balance and especially since this has a better infotainment setup) and I think the Germans should be worried too (I'd take this over the CURRENT 3-Series and pocket the difference to go on a nice vacation...tho I'm sure the next 3-series will be a solid package)

The side vent you said is not functional is, in fact, functional. It vents air from the wheel wells. You can argue about HOW functional that is, but many performance cars have the same thing.
Patrick Jeter It's for decorative purposes. It has no hole for venting. Also just to add I asked three people at the G70 launch event.
Team 974 MotorTrend is wrong, then. They say functional. Doesn't really matter I guess...still a nice car.
It's actually not functional on the G70, however I would not want it removed, I think it looks nice, the fender would look bare without it. The Kia Stinger has a similar vent that is actually functional, so i'm unsure why Genesis would not make this one functional. But this small arguable trait is not going to deter me or anyone else from getting their hands on the g70.
I would buy this over an Audi S4. I think the 3.3T model is as good or better than the S4 especially at the price.

To be honest German market going to be fine because German owners love German car but Japaneses market like Acura,Lexus,Infinity going to experiment wired sales on his models and the real problem going to be for Acura..... This Genesis G70 replace the TLX easy .
You are right - especially in Europe tradition is too strong, aftermarket, tuners everything in abundance. Besides Germans are not slacking and this will be one more variety to choose from. I welcome it however - I would certainly buy this car rather than 3 series etc because I love new and nontraditional car brands that make great cars. That is why I for example bought fully-loaded KIA Sportage over used and a lot less equipped BMW X1. During the test drive I found out that X1 just had no advantage over Sportage other than posh badge, which is not relevant to me. I dont buy cars to impress people but to indulge myself.
GOINFINITI is true ..just like me in 2008 i was in shopping car mode and I finish in a KIA Amanti 2008 ..all my friend and co-worker... Why you choose a kia over others nice brand ..I respond I like to be the under dog ..today 2017 I still have the car with out problem even in 2009 i buy a Land Rover 'the Family car" my Wife and i Agree those $57,000 SUV stay more time at deeler service vs The under dog Kia ...
Acura cars are so bad now. Not reliable, look outdated, weak engines, overpriced, absolutely terrible quality control. What are they even doing?
Agreed, I would take the G70 over TLX in a heartbeat. Acura and Infiniti have lost their brand identity and Genesis is taking that stride.
Ganbala infiniti and acura sure but lexus won’t be affected by this car, the G80 may surpass the GS but the G90 certainly doesn’t surpass the new LS500 in any way shape or form, but i’m also biased since i have an IS, which i would take over this car too

I test drove one 2 weeks ago same color and package setup. Great car, amazing engine. Too bad here in California they are very limited with no selling incentives. I'll wait a few months for them to offer better deals.

New IS will be on a new platform by the end of 2018, and will be 600 pounds lighter than this, with 3 engine choices...a 2.0 Turbo, 3.5 V6, and a 3.3 TT V6. You should wait and drive both.

Yes, it's expected to arrive early part of 2018. I think that it's gorgeous inside and out, can't wait to get in one.
Carlos Guevara the new IS will probably be for the 2020 model year, and will probably only offer a 2.0 turbo the TTV6 and an F model

Yes, Mercedes and BMW need to just pack up and go home. It's the beginning of the end for them. You'll still have your "label" robots like those who buy Iphones (which are now crap) but its the label..so those "types" will continue with BMW and Mercedes. They will be the butt of private jokes.
Jord Eli, this does not compete with Germans, It does not perform better in any categories. C63 is faster in straight light, and in corners. Sounds better, Best interior in it's class. Yeah its more expensive but you get what you pay for
I agree...I get so sick of the German's a la carte pricing on features that quickly adds $20k to the price of the car...so many things are not standard...like if you get heated seats, why would you not want a heated steering wheel? Yet that is a separate add-on that can cost up to $500. The worst is the heated seats in a warm climate and if you want the ventilated seats, you have to add on a $3500 option package. Bye-bye Germans!
If you these added option costs are pressuring you, then you shouldn't be in luxury market? Why are you here haha. Have you seen Porsche options list? Options will go more than 50% of the price of base car on Porsche. I never saw people complain on these pricy Porsche options.

You guys make some valid points.. But tell me.. Which of the competitors offer 365hp and 375 torque for 57k Canadian? None.. Your getting a an A4 with 220 hp for that price.

I'm a boomer baby and I'm getting into sports cars because I'm going to my second childhood LOL life is too short to deny yourself of nice things this looks awesome however the only problem is I have back problems I'm working my butt off all my life so I'm just going to find out if the seating is pretty good on that sometimes sports cars have bad seating and you can't get out of it that's the only drawback most modern cars battle sea thanks for the review

Are Genesis cars going to be as reliable as Lexus cars ?
I mean if not they offer 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and 3 year 36,000 mile complimentary maintenance.
So, there is no CD Player, doesn’t have a defrost button for the side mirrors or the auto dimmed feature, no rear heated seats, neither rear window shades. I don’t like the nets behind the chairs it cheapens the luxurious feel for me personally. It could have been leather or a hard plastic. However, I still want it though!

I really, really hope U.S. models come with all those awesome tech features!!!! But WHY did Genesis get rid of the center console selector for the nav screen? My '15 Hyundai Genesis has one, and I used it waaay more than the touch screen. Oh well.
I have an ES350 but I'm pondering to get an alternative car between Kia Stinger and G70. Previously I have a crush on Audi S4 but its very expensive.
I would love to travel around Qatar. May be I will hit a jackpot before the next world cup.
Genesis won't take the German spots but surely take over the japanese, swedish and english luxury lines, Acura and Infinity and Lexus, jaguar, volvo.

How much does this car weigh? It's a tad smaller than the Stinger, but if it's a few hundred pounds lighter, I'll probably get a G70 instead of the Stinger. I really like the way the Stinger looks though...
Reviewers say it is quite a bit lighter than the technology laden racing car Stinger. As a result, it drives with quicker response, etc.
The front of the car is a mix of kia stinger and Infiniti q50 with a genesis grill. I like it and it looks aggressive yet not overly busy and somewhat sophisticated. I'm not digging the back that much but I rarely stare at a cars ass.
From a higher camera angle over the front of the car, you can see that they designed the hood with a V coming forward and pointing to the Genesis Winged Logo. Cool!

Thank you for making this video. I appreciate car reviews from the perspective of a lay person. HOWEVER, it is still important not to spread disinformation. For example, the chevron shaped accent at the front fenders is a FUNCTIONAL, not fake, engine vent. Also, the seat bolsters tighten when the car is switched into SPORT mode - and relax when put into NORMAL mode. Additionally, you did NOT cover ALL features, and you certainly didn't give a full review without a driving portion.
Basically same Infotainment system as my Kia Optima, kind of a bummer. Other than that I'm liking this luxury midsize and the twin turbo V6!

This car has more technological features than the American G80.
* The buttons on the left shoulder side of the front passenger seat is to easily make rear seat leg room for the right side rear passenger.

Did Genesis get rid of the wheel in the middle to change radio stations, toggle between functions, etc...? I have that on my '13 Genesis and like it.
Yes it looks like they have decided to go with a strictly touch based infotainment system. Really wish they'd replace the drive mode nob with a menu navigation knob but I suppose I could deal as long as the screen doesn't feel too far away and the system is responsive. My GTI is touch only and I don't mind it because it is successful at both of those points. Curious to see if the new G80 will follow suit. I imagine it will retain the knob as I believe that car featuring a larger interior and also targeting an older demographic would benefit from the knob.

Every light inside and out should be LED at this point. The rear turn signals are not. Unacceptable.
