The firetruck slip reminds me of a highway incident where a slightly smaller truck, but probably loaded given how it behaved got caught unawares on a patch of black ice and the drive must've been kissed by angels or something, because even tho it was 100% spinning like a dime, he managed to control it and stop the truck without hitting anyone. We were driving at 50kph at the time and at least 4 or 5 cars passed his truck. It was nuts.

Well I used to frequent fly for work and I saw that pretty often, but I don’t know if that’s unusual or not.
As an Avgeek, By looking at the window he’s flying on the Boeing 737-MAX8-200 which only has a ceiling of 41,000 feet. Also, most commercial flights do not fly over 41,000 feet so in order for this to happen conditions have to be just right.
The poor girl that fell, I felt so bad for her. It was nice to hear someone call out to ask if she was ok.
Her mom definitely made it worse, yelling, "Are you okay?!?!"
It went from bad to worse to cringe. 😅

Fun Fact: in Japan, such black sand ( Tamahagane ), mainly from Shimane, was the main source of iron for their swords and knives.
Little correction: the sand is called satetsu (砂鉄, literally meaning iron sand if you translate it), the resulting steel after processing the sand is called tamahagane
Adding to this thread of information, 玉鋼 (Tamahagane) is a very poor quality steel filled with many imperfections, and so swordsmiths favoured folding the steel many times to reduce the imperfections, as it was the best steel they could really get, so they had to make do with it. This is mostly, but not entirely, responsible for why Katana were designed with a curve, though other things such as a slight advantage in edge alignment consistency are also contributing factors.

In case you didnt know, you can see the croco through a polarizer due to light getting polarized if reflected from a plane surface at a specific angle. It is called Brewster's angle. Due to the polarizer the reflected light is absorbed and only the light from within the water gets into your eye (or the camera)
Also works best in one direction, turning the sunglasses vertical makes windshields reflective again.

1:21 This is the exact reason why all ships and aeroplanes have red and green lights, indicators on either side to indicate port and starboard side. If red colour is on left side, the object is moving away and if green light is seen on left side the object is coming closer to you.

Hey, hi! I'm a hobbyist sailor hopping in to say that it's not quite exactly like that. No idea how it works with planes but on the sea it's 2 colors from the front and white stern light from the back. The colors are there rather to suggest which side you're seeing and it doesn't much help with the effect described - that's why the navigational lights are active only after sunset (when you can't really see any of the shapes).

That fire truck spinning was on local news other night in Boston!
Unfortunately that firetruck actually hit a car into a garage door and then was only partially in the driveway of the other house where it stopped after hitting the corner of the house. There are multiple camera angles that caught this happen.

This happened in Imperial, MO on 1/22/24. This is about 25 minutes from where I live. The firetruck was responding to a 911 call about a car that slid and struck an electrical box.

What you don't see is the car being struck by lightning as it passes just out of frame, freezing the doors electric locks while also disabling the power steering as the car spends the next 12 seconds hurtling towards a blazing fuel fire but just before the car gets into the fire, the driver manages to turn a bit to the left and come to a stop on the curb.
The driver pants with relief and smiles at the passenger just before one of the barrels explodes sending a piece of shrapnel into the car hitting them in the carotid artery leaving them to slowly expire over the next 10 seconds in front of the splattered, screaming passenger.

You can use free astronomy software to view it though. Even more impossible: in the same software you can view it from the sun, and so mars hides behind the earth. Also cool stuff.
Also for the planes/high flights: those are generally intercontinental. Local flights are far lower. I flew at about 30000+ ft.

1:48 It was less the chopstick doing the work and more the rosin that was applied to the chopstick doing the work there. Without rosin, even the bows that are normally used to play cellos will produce little more than squeaks when rubbing them on the strings.
I'm sure any surface with enough friction can cause the strings to produce some sound, though sandpaper probably will destroy the strings a little faster than rosin would.
It's just in this clip you can see the person applying the rosin beforehand. Though it's so quick I didn't even catch the application of rosin the first time (just looked like he was just wiping the chopstick off), but I saw the tell-tale sign of its residue on the strings and watched it back and then saw the rosin in the cloth.

*The best polarized sunglasses are the light brown tinted lenses of any price, I promise* . I've been fishing for about 25 years and it's been a family tradition for generations that we can actually track to the 1700s. I've tried so many glasses of all different types and prices and none beat the light brown lenses, you can see fish like the water is crystal clear and you don't even have to pay more than $5 for them at a walmart. It is life changing, especially if you go spot fishing
Black sand anecdote time: My early childhood was in Sept-Iles, Quebec on the mouth of the St. Lawrence river. Iron ore came down from Labrador to be processed and particulate iron would ride the winds and settle into the water where the iron ore would wash up in big black ripples on the beach sand that looked really neat. I'd walk the beach with a fridge magnet collecting Dixie cups full of purely "black sand" and spent many hours trying to melt my ore into a solid with magnifying glasses. This does not work.

I've had worse track races. In middle school, during my first meet, I tripped over 3 hurdles in one race. Fell on the first one, managed to get enough momentum for the second, tripped on the third, tripped on the fourth, then walked around the last one because I was done embarrassing myself. My sister and her friends from the high school team had even come out to cheer me on 🤦♀️
Ok I cackled a little im sorry. But I mean I cant jump hurdles at all- so thats still some impressive effort especially to keep trying. 💪🏽stronk

He is not a baggage handler - he is part of the traffic control team, that's why he had those lights in his hand. They direct the planes and ensure no other vehicles on the airfield get in the way of takeoff etc.
