I'm completely new to DND. To be honest, this game drowns me in complexity on a frightening level. But I'm also fascinated by its freedom, and merciless but not necessarily fatal consequences. I proudly managed to get off the ship with Shadowheart and Lae'zel - only to die horribly at the beach in the wrecked ship. Your playthrough along with your little explanations is *very* helpful - and inspiring. Thank you very much!
It was a great vid but as a complete newb… and i mean complete…i had no idea about the mechanics of combat, you went so quickly there. I tried rewinding several times but…thanks anyway.
@@kingslaphappy1533 I'm a noob too and had to learn the hard way. If there is one thing that was not very clear despite being crucial and surprisingly not that complex once you've seen it, it's action points / spell slots. In combat, look at the small symbols right above your spells/skill bar. Those geometric shapes are your "combat money", the things you spend to use one skill or another : - Green dot is action point, you have only 1 per turn and it is used for almost every skill, like melee attack or spell casting. - Triangle is bonus action, 1 per turn, it is used for some lesser skills, usually mobility skills (jumping...), but some weapons like daggers have a lesser attack that deals less damage than a normal one but only uses bonus action, instead of the green dot normal action. - Purple star is a reaction point, 1 per turn, it is used rarely in lower levels but will become much more important later in the game, depending on your build. It is used for things like counterattacks, and is only triggered by enemy actions during their turns. Typical example is a level 1 spell called "shield", which activates itself if someone attacks you and will protect you from the attack, but will use your reaction point. You will recharge the reaction point next turn, but it means that after this attack, if someone else attacks you you wont be able to block because you have no reaction point left for this turn. - Blue squares are your spell points. Numbers available depend on class, and you will get more of them by leveling up your character, wizards typically have the most. If you have level 1 spells, each time you cast a level 1 spell it will consume a level 1 spell point (once you'll have level 2 spells, those will require level 2 spell points, and you will have less of them than lvl1 points). Those points DO NOT RECHARGE EVERY TURN ! So you have to use them wisely because what you have at the beginning of the fight is literally the number of spells you will be able to cast during the fight ! To recharge spell points, you need to take a "long rest" (camp icon at bottom right of the screen) If you don't, the game does not stop you from doing multiple fights in a row, and you can guess that later fights will become much harder as you will have already spent your spell points in previous fights... Talking about spells ! I said each spell consumes a spell point, but it's not entirely true. During your character creation, the game lets you select "cantrips" (or in my French localization, it was named something like "minor spell"). Cantrips are very basic spells, we could say level 0 spells. Those cantrips DON'T COST ANY SPELL POINT, only an action point. You can see which skill consumes which point by hovering the mouse over the skill, and looking at the bottom of the window. It shows you what that skill cost. Check which spell you have is a cantrip, if it looks like a spell, but there is no spell point cost, then it's a cantrip. Note that even basic stuff uses some kind of points ! Jumping, or *drinking potions* use bonus point, which means that if you already jumped in this turn, you will not be able to drink a potion ! Also, moving DOES NOT CONSUME ANY POINT, so you can move a bit, cast a spell, then move back behind a wall, for example. Moving as much as the game authorizes you will not stop you from casting a spell or melee attacks, or jumping or whatever. Now the important part, how to use wisely all those different points ? As you've seen, you can get killed very fast in this game. So each turn is precious. Each point you have has great value and you must use them the best you can. At the beginning of the game there is not much to do on the matter. Don't spam your lvl1 spells, try to use them wisely. If you need to attack at distance with your mage or whatever, try using cantrips, those lvl0 spells that are free of charge. Those, you can spam them as you like (for 1 action point, so you can use them every turn). When you are leveling up, and the game lets you pick a new spell, don't forget to read what each spell costs. Some spells (shield, lvl1 spell) don't cost action point, but reaction point and a spell point. Others cost a reaction point (not many for wizards, but rangers, clerics, paladins have a few, usually these are healing, buff, or curses spells, but sometimes damage too) and a spell point. Reaction point spells are VERY VALUABLE, because they can be cast before or after your main action (normal action point) in the same turn, basically means you do 2 things in 1 turn, very good ! Typical use (for a paladin or a cleric) would be to buff yourself with a bonus action, then melee attack the enemy, for example. So, back to leveling up, usually bonus action spells look less powerful than full action spells. If they deal damage, it's less, or their buff is weaker, etc. BUT ! As you've seen, their strength is that they do not consume an action point, so you can cast your big stuff, and this smaller one, BEFORE the enemy can do anything about it during their turn. I think that's enough for now ^^. It's not as complex as it seems really. Look at the point system like casino tokens, make your bets and know when to fold. If you have other questions just ask. Once you have understood the basics, the strategy aspect of this game is a blast :D
I don’t know if ESO has done it, but lucky ghost did a complete description of like making your character and stuff. I’ve played DND before and I still had a little trouble getting into the game.
Same here. In my first plathrough (currently on the third one) I played on Balanced. I explored everything because everything was so new to me. Had a ton of fun. But the fights? oh boy did I struggle. Especially the spiders in Act I took me sth. like 3 hours to successfully fight them BUT I learned a lot during those hours. And I continued to learn right up until the end of the game. My second play through as evil dark urge went way smoother and I enjoyed the game on a whole new level. Now I am playing on Tactician and it is a lot of fun! The game is suddenly really challenging for me (almost as it was in the beginning on Balanced), but now I know so much more and I am "forced" to use all of my knowledge... And I still learn something new every time I play! What a game!
So just for future reference for you, if you need to get through a group on enemies and are afraid of them attacking you, you can take the disengage action and they don’t get to swing at you from your movement

Started playing yesterday and I love the narration. Really gives a feel thst you could be sitting at that table with an awesome Dungeon Master narrating the game
ive watchde at least ten different people fight commander zalk for the everburn blade but none of them were smart enough to disarm him and use it against him at the start of the fight but you man! Awesome!
I'm not a d&d fan, but watching half of this I went ahead and purchased the game. After the weekend I have to admit that this game is incredible. I love it so much. (Also I watched the rest of this video and my gameplay is completely different than ESO's, which amaze me a lot considering how scripted most of the games today.)
im a newcomer to this game, and my first character I accidentally chose the Dark Urge, and I didn't know what origin meant so I had no idea. As my playthrough started, I did begin to notice the weird and sadistic dialogue options but didn't pay them much attention, until one day I had a long rest and got shook by that bard cutscene... after that I understood what the Dark Urge really meant haha well just going to finish it still because I have almost 20 hours already ;A;
I suppose if you’re role playing as the Dark Urge, having it be a surprise is the best way. 😂 *You awaken, covered in blood, your companion’s severed head next to you.* 👀
I also went with a vengeance paladin but with in mind to become a dark urge oathbreaker who kills mostly only bad guys from the vengeance roleplay, once a while giving in to the urge and kill a few innocents to keep lazael and astarion happy. But mostly kill etc. And then doing the [paladin] speecj once a while to remember where i came from. God im so into the game sorry 😅
I was excited about this game and was just about to buy it. After watching this video I decided it wasnt for me though. Thank you so much for making it, you saved me some money!
I started DnD in jail and played some full campaigns and my god the feeling of moving your character from a sheet to a game is just amazing. Also to be free, charish your freedom and protect it. 😆

As ever, great style / commentary of your play through. No spoilers for me as I did EA and it's about where I'm up to ( I don't rush through). Kep it coming.
Loved your Skyrim playthroughs. Very detailed and you helped me get past more than one spot that gave me a headache. Giving Baldurs Gate III a try based on this. Thanks! I was looking for a new game to play.
amazing start ESO! the way you made that devil drop his sword was so cunning! i was so hyped like at a sports event lol. watched other playthroughs nobody did that or anything that clever!
I keep seeing people saying this should be game of the year, so I had to see what it was. Lmao fuck no. No shot GOTY will go to a game where you don’t even play you click around and tell the guy what to do. Fuck that. The cinematic looks really cool though.
I tried this game few months ago, and needed to stop cause I was like overwhelmed. My obsessive-compulsive disorder was killing me with so much to do, and the continuous feeling of losing something to do or else. I mean, it's probabbly one of the best gamest ever made, and the funnny part is precisely that: it's re-playable AF. Although I LOVE this game, love its comunnity and love this content. A lot of usefull info, tactics and really enjoyable video. Thanks a lot!
Because when you're thinking with lots of options and things to do, it's easier to execute strategies and just play this type of game if it's not in real time.
if i remember correctly that thing is a spelljammer ship used by the mindflayers wich actually can jump threw diffrent plains of exsitence for anyone who ddin't know
This walkthrough is most informative. Most of the players I watch bumble through, because it's their first time playing and they have no clue as to what they're doing (Astarion's VA included).
I’ve never played boulders gate, but I watched about 20 minutes of this and had to stop just because I don’t want any more spoilers. Lol but this is awesome!! I had no idea you could roll dice. I love the narration with the rolling of the dice. Can’t wait to see more.
First time checking out your channel and I like you style and how you interact with us. Informative yet still get a bit of that immersion when you reach during the battles or speak out some of the text. Cheers to the algorithm hope this video does well for you
I'm only 10 hours into my first playthrough and I'll admit, having never played a D&D style game I was a bit overwhelmed. All of my decisions seemed so... heavy... I killed Astarion... the little girl died, the other girl in the cell died... the crippled girl... dead... I don't think I'm doing things "right" but maybe that's the point? Also the amount of diversity in skills and abilities is mind blowing... I have no idea what to pick and use half the time. Should I daze this thing? Fear it? Charm it? Blind it? Or just whack it with my sword? I have no idea what I'm doing! Videos like this help so thank you but I still think learning on my own is... the point of the game.
I can't wait to burn down Druids Grove!

As my playthrough started, I did begin to notice the weird and sadistic dialogue options but didn't pay them much attention, until one day I had a long rest and got shook by that bard cutscene... after that I understood what the Dark Urge really meant haha well just going to finish it still because I have almost 20 hours already ;A;
I suppose if you’re role playing as the Dark Urge, having it be a surprise is the best way. 😂
*You awaken, covered in blood, your companion’s severed head next to you.* 👀
Dark urge bro, it’s in the name 😂
@@a.l.4852I’m guessing he didn’t do much reading 😅
Hahahah I’m actually starting as a paladin with the oath of vengeance 😂 love it
@@AnmolMishra946what bro this game is one of the greatest rpgs ever made mostly everyone playing it on PC then on PlayStation 5 next month
Really enjoying this walkthrough great job
I was excited about this game and was just about to buy it. After watching this video I decided it wasnt for me though. Thank you so much for making it, you saved me some money!
459 views in 5 minutes wich shows you ESO makes quality content
BG3 is also the hottest game out right now
that flaming sword battle omg had me on edge
Love how well your walkthroughs do, by far my favorite RUclips content .
I started DnD in jail and played some full campaigns and my god the feeling of moving your character from a sheet to a game is just amazing. Also to be free, charish your freedom and protect it. 😆
Finally an evil paladin yes I love it
That ship fight was intense, I didn’t think you’d get everybody out of there.
@@0ss2 I think they changed it for expediency, get people beyond the intro faster. The early access version had a lot more going on for testing purposes.

Good, old Wilhelm scream. :D
At first I was all, please say that's not really in the game...
Then I watched a few other playthroughs...
It's really in the game........................................................
12:33 sure looked like Scarlet Johansson
Was that a ‘Wilhelm scream’ I heard when Baldur was getting destroyed?
As ever, great style / commentary of your play through. No spoilers for me as I did EA and it's about where I'm up to ( I don't rush through). Kep it coming.
The taking of the sword was insane level of freedom!
1:19:59 "what's inside? OH looks like some GOLD and COINS" neat🤣
Wow, I had no idea you could disarm and steal the Devils sword. That makes the battle
Much easier!
How do you do it? I don’t see it as an option
Loved your Skyrim playthroughs. Very detailed and you helped me get past more than one spot that gave me a headache. Giving Baldurs Gate III a try based on this. Thanks! I was looking for a new game to play.

Astarion getting absolutely flattened by that boar 😂
amazing start ESO! the way you made that devil drop his sword was so cunning! i was so hyped like at a sports event lol. watched other playthroughs nobody did that or anything that clever!
Cannot wait til the next episode is out!
Can already tell I’m gonna love these walkthroughs!
shit I didn't realize I could have picked the haunted one for my evil playthrough, welp back to character creation
Just needed to see what the gameplay was like, thanks for a calm and informative video.
“Now we’re gonna loot the beach… IS THAT A LUTE??” Lol the timing
the word "Tiefling"is always pronounced "TEE-fling",
this looks absolutely amazing. obviously on PC. sadly when we get it on Xbox it won't be as defined but every bit as worth playing
"Lets go ahead and loot the beach - Oh is that a Lute?"
Such an incredible accidental joke.
Got to episode 19 I'm going back to express my appreciation Thank you for hours of funny exciting and interesting content
I hate when people pretend it's their first time playing a game and act like they don't know anything of whats going on. It's so uncanny
I keep seeing people saying this should be game of the year, so I had to see what it was. Lmao fuck no. No shot GOTY will go to a game where you don’t even play you click around and tell the guy what to do. Fuck that.
The cinematic looks really cool though.
It won 7 golden joystick awards yesterday including ultimate goty. So I guess the majority of people disagree with you.
@@ESOdanny it’s just not for me. This kind of game never will be.
I love the narrator's voice, she did an amazing job.
there is so many creators making walkthroughs but im here, best place
Great start, looking forward for more.
How the f... this can be game of the year 🤔
Cause it's awesome
You'd know if you played it
Why are you pretending you've never played this game 😂
It's been two years since I've last played it, they have added allot of cutscenes to the game since then.
If you’re going to be evil PLEASE punt that squirrel! 😂
"dreadlocks look pretty awesome on an Orc though" is something i never thought i'd ever hear 🤣
No way people think Spiderman 2 is better than this? 😂
It is the game is ass
Man i really tried to like this game but the gameplay feels just so clunky boardgame type shit that wssted my money only :/
I tried this game few months ago, and needed to stop cause I was like overwhelmed.
Danny my guy , thank u for finnily playing a half orc. I can't wait to see what reckegde you cause my friend
enough with these fake "shocked" thumbnails.
Chemical Prophecy 😂😂😂
I dont get how or why people like turn based games
I usually dont like it but pokemon and this game made it fun and strategic
Because when you're thinking with lots of options and things to do, it's easier to execute strategies and just play this type of game if it's not in real time.
if i remember correctly that thing is a spelljammer ship used by the mindflayers wich actually can jump threw diffrent plains of exsitence for anyone who ddin't know
The brain thing is adorable
I’m watching this as I download the game. My pc is going to explode 😂
Nice playthrough fella!
This walkthrough is most informative. Most of the players I watch bumble through, because it's their first time playing and they have no clue as to what they're doing (Astarion's VA included).
49:03 I just realized. You looted a lute. Nice one, Larian.
That's the first time I've seen someone make the Cambion drop his sword and beat him with it.
I’ve never played boulders gate, but I watched about 20 minutes of this and had to stop just because I don’t want any more spoilers. Lol but this is awesome!! I had no idea you could roll dice. I love the narration with the rolling of the dice. Can’t wait to see more.
you can select multiple items with shift or cntrl clicking to send multiple things to camp
First time checking out your channel and I like you style and how you interact with us. Informative yet still get a bit of that immersion when you reach during the battles or speak out some of the text. Cheers to the algorithm hope this video does well for you
React during the battles**
i like the subtle context. Well done pointing out what needs to be known without making it obvious.
can’t wait for your “character build” videos like how you did for Skyrim!
Yo whoever did these voice acting deserves there flowers man
13:58
Good devs using a wilhelm. 10/10 would buy
Great strategy for getting that flame sword.!
13:58 > that meme sound ( the yelling ) that gets passed between films, series and games for centuries... did you notice ?
Never played D&D, but I love this game
Ha! "For now; let's go ahead and loot the beach.... Oh! it that a lute?" 49:00 That made me laugh a little too hard.
It's not a door. It's not an orifice. It's a doorofice!
"Let's loot the beach"
*Instantly finds a lute*
"Look a lute" 😂
The animation quality in this insane!!!
Ngl that beard on the Orc at 08:57 looks 🔥
So glad you’re covering this game. It is the new Skyrim for this generation.
At 1:12:46 your eyes ''special effects'' is awesome 😂
Awesome video, great editing!
Your playthroughs are the best playthroughs.
