Perfect video for my problem. I just pulled up tomatoes with huge knots. I want to prep my soil for my fall garden and want to plant lettuce. I will be solarizing! Ty!!

That’s a bingo on beneficial nematodes. They sure do help keep down noxious pests. You might also be able to ask around and find someone who has extra scraps of greenhouse film. That stuff is rated in years. I think I heard that Elbon Rye is a good cover crop for nematodes

You want to compress the soil to increase its thermal transfer and after solemnization you can fluff it.

I had issues last year with my okra in root knot nematodes, I used a cover crop of spicy mustard, believe it was the Kodiak Brown, it acts as a bio fumigator against the route not nematodes. I think next time I will try the solar first, followed up by the mustard, if there’s a next time lol

I have added yearly solarization to my garden plan during the least productive month of the year to deal with these nasty pests. I too am following that up with a cover crop that is unfriendly to root knot nematodes. May we both have luck dealing with these annoying pests!

I have used black plastic over my compost piles for similar solar powered heat, to kill off bugs and such. In Florida the black plastic also helped keep snakes from using the compost as an egg laying site.
Not sure how black plastic might work against knot nematodes.

All the research I found suggested Clear plastic. I can only guess that perhaps some of the direct sunlight aids with the process.
