EXPLANATION❗
Zohakuten's greatest weapon is hatred and the more hatred he feels, the stronger he gets, but there are some people that he just couldn't make himself hate even if he tries and one of them is Akaza.
When Akaza fought against Hantengu, Hantengu let his clones participate while he hides in the back, Akaza was strong enough to hold against the 4 clones until it needed to merge together and form Zohakuten.
When Akaza first saw Zohakuten, he can see that he held great power and appreciate his opponent, this appreciation made Zohakuten ability to hate him stopped but he didn't stop attacking until the battle went on for so long that it drained Hantengu's energy and needed to eat human flesh in order to regain his energy, but he couldn't because it was not allowed so there are no other way than to surrender.
Akaza wins because he could hang on longer than Zohakuten, Zohakuten was then spared and was brought out of the Blood battle territory.
He despise how weak he was and how Akaza has won against him but he still can't hate Akaza.
