Once again you are the first to publish, congratulations. I like you best when you don't mince words. For the first time I think you hinted that Brad and Joe might start to take some responsibility. Being mid-table for a Gills fan is actually normal, the problem is that for the last two years the hype was so ludicrously high in August (to sell season tickets?) that anything less than top 3 felt like failure, something that has NEVER applied before, and I go back to Freddie Cox, the old Spurs left-back who took us up in '64, the year before subs were allowed. If Freddie was going to beat you up he always waited until full-time.
We live in Gillingham and it is horrible seeing the club not doing great, hopefully the new manager will turn things around, be good for the club and the town.
I might be oversimplifying but I think there are two things that run through the club's DNA 1. Pure determination, as Gills fans we cannot tolerate players who give less than 100% 2. More often than not we seem to flourish with a 'little & large' combination up front. Bayo/Cody, Eaves/Parker, Kedwell/Burton, going back a bit Taylor/Asaba (ok Sarbs wasn't little, but was pacey and a finisher). Think we had that briefly with Hawkins/Nichol recently, before Hawkins got injured But anyway, the current crop/setup does not satisfy either of those things
Hi Matt, thanks for that, I hoped Mark would have been given a little longer, but with the last few results I think it was inevitable that his reign was over, all we can hope is that John Coleman is the right choice and can get these under performing players on song, don’t envy him that job without a magic wand!! Don’t know what sort of transfer budget we might now have, what with paying three managers off! Still onwards and hopefully upwards as always UTG⚽⚽💙
Had to happen Matt. He lost the Dressing Room ages ago. As you said his team selections were terrible, especially recently. Probably too late to save our season and can just hope for survival. The players definetely have helped
As an outsider it puzzles me how in the last 2 seasons the Gills have started well in each season and then struggled later in each season resulting in 2 managers both losing their jobs... I know like us you've had some horrendous injuries and I totally agree with u Matt when u say at least 12 players have played under the last 3 managers and that would suggest they are contributing to these managers losing their jobs... It seems to me that Gillingham as a team struggle to score goals and if u go one down the team seems to struggle to win games from there...That should never be happening with the players currently at the club...I honestly hope that with experienced EFL manager John Coleman in charge now until the end of the season at least, he manages to steady the ship and get back an identity for the team which will then see an upturn in results... I've always rated Gillingham as a team and tbh I tipped them to be top 3 this season as many others did, so as an outsider that follows you're channel I sincerely hope fortunes change asap...🤞🏻🤞🏻 Love you're no BS open and honest opinions Matt and this video was no exception my friend...All the best for the rest of the season and here's to a possible new dawn under JC and JB for the Gills...🤞🏻🤞🏻 P.s Well done on reaching the 3.5k subs mark as well Matt...totally well deserved for a superb channel...👏🏻⚽️👏🏻⚽️
Agree Bantam Neil and hope you enjoy watching Laps play for you. Good player in this league, if you can keep him fit. Just read today that Cookey is out for the season. Hopefully the moment has come for Big V. Reckon you will invest in a new striker though. You and your great fans have had enough of L2 😂
@DavidGay-mu1yo Yeah we got Michael Mellon in on loan from Burnley yesterday and last season he scored around 13-15 goals in League 2 for Morecambe in about 22-25 games so he's proven at this level...We still need at least more 1 striker to come in and tbh Oliver and Smith both need to either be sold, loaned out or have their contracts paid up as they are just not good enuf for this level now... Gutted about losing cooky to the ACL knee injury v Barrow but including the Barrow game and the Grimsby game we've scored 5 goals without him in 2 games so hopefully we carry that trend on with Mellon taking his place as Cooky won't b back until next season and another striker coming in to partner Mellon that is good enuf to warrant that place alongside him... I'm looking forward to seeing Lapslie in a Bantams kit as I rate that lad and I agree when fit he's a real asset to any team in League 2...We did well to get him on a free so it's a win win for us really...🤞🏻🤞🏻🐔🐓 Bit of a break 4 us now in the league until a week next Saturday when we take on Carlisle away (tbh I'd rather have played this wknd but bcoz of FA Cup we have no game so we will end up having another league game in hand on others which I prefer points on the board)... Best of luck under John Coleman dave and I'm sure proper football men like him and Jimmy Bell will get a fine tune out of the Gills squad given time to work with them... All the best Dave m8...👍🏻⚽️💪🏼 UPTFC 🐔🐓🏟⚽️💪🏼😍
Good video as normal. I just want some passion to be shown. Like you say, we might not have the best players but they'd always put in the effort and as fans that's the least we deserve.
I am truly still trying to get my head around this. I would have thought giving Bonner the transfer window would have been the right thing to do. I'll can it now. We move on. Looking forward to the press conference later today
Matt, don't you think that we have been trying to run before will can walk. I honestly believe Bonner would have had a cull in the summer and we would have seen a better squad next season
Will changing a manager (as you said the 3rd time 2 years) change this group. No. Bonner should have been given until May, at least. Sad day for the club
Bonner seems like he could be a good manager, but that string of poor results did for him. I've always felt since Galinson took over, we're basically still in rebuilding, and trying to rush up the pyramid isn't necessarily the best course for us. No matter how much money Brad has, its unfair to expect him to fix our issues by throwing Reynolds/McElhenney money at it.
Bonner performed absolute miracles at Cambridge. Too quick to blame managers but what are they working with? Proper low budgets, players not pulling weight and the good ones injured left right and centre. Stop blaming talented young managers and destroying their career, let them at least run out their seasons... its disgraceful
You are a modern football fan.......hoping against hope, listening to the hype & thinking all sorts of thoughts. I love Gillingham FC but as soon as I saw John Coleman's new manager introduction interview I knew he'd be useless! The leagues are full of these 'chancers', taking the money, making it up as they go along. Mark Bonner's also a classic example of one. Basically, look for a manager who's enigmatic, that could be the likes of a high-flying Jose Morinio or a lesser-known Marc White but as soon as you hear flannel, talk of 'it'll take time', talk of 'not a good enough performance', as soon as you hear any of that, kick them out! Basically use Brian Clough as your benchmark......the modern game is so shit that a good manager is actually really easy to spot! They shouldn't even talk to the cameras, especially after a lost game but they can't help themselves!!
The Galinsons and comper have made 2 poor appointments. 2 managers with little or no experience. Y would they be surprised by the outcome. Is Coleman the answer. Time will tell.
Another big money owner who doesn't get it. L2 is a competitive league. Teams take time to build. Not just a question of paying big wages to guarantee success. Revolving door is becoming a joke no wonder many clubs aren't progressing. Years gone by finishing a few places higher every year was in itself an achievement. As other teams don't stand still either.

What sticks out this season is how easily we are bullied during matches.

Really? Possible relegation not an issue to you?
@PhilipCoward I don't think so
GITBTV Is great love all what you put on here Matt keep it going UP THE GILLS
John Coleman be good appointment
Will changing a manager (as you said the 3rd time 2 years) change this group. No. Bonner should have been given until May, at least. Sad day for the club
No mate he was no good had to go, but it's not only him, look at those above and of course below.
Just sit there and watch him get us relegated?
@@Rating64 I don't think that was going to happen. I think we have lost a very good man in Bonner.
I think not.
The centre of our defence and Ehmer in particularly has been absolutely rubbish all through the last 3 managers
4 managers in 2 years is bad. Poor choices or a failure to support them.
Bonner should have been given his seasons due, managers often turn it around but now you broken his career
Good luck to John Coleman

Hi matt john Coleman is in charge till the end of the season ok
Hopefully Coleman selects a team that actually wants to play football😀

They can’t even get decent food for the fans let alone managers

Bonner was failing. Hopeless.
