Thanks so much Ant, fantastic walk. Just love those bridges, the stonework is beautiful. The countryside is lovely too. Thanks for taking me along, please stay safe and take care
The lake at Kirk Hallam was known as " Beauty Spot", here is a brief description from another site. "The area on the left soon opens out to give views over a stretch of water that is known as the Beauty Spot and although it has lost some of its former glory, it is still a quiet and tranquil place. In the not too distant past this was a recreational area where rowing boats and canoes could be hired and where carnival events, funfairs, firework displays and band concerts as well as sporting activities were staged." It also had a miniature railway around the lake, at least one, possibly more of the engines survive today.
Another brilliant video Ant. Kirk Hallam Colliery had a very short working life from 1875 to 1881. I taught at Kirk Hallam School for a short time in the late 1990s.
Brilliant video as usual I was at my sons house in church warsop about a month ago and we walked the railway line to welbeck colliery from church warsop my son was blown away by how much track and signals remained after all those years after closure he asked to do it again last weekend so we did unfortunately nothing remains track has been lifted signals gone and its just the track bed now had a few tears from my son as he has autism and doesn't understand why they lifted the track etc he said its part of our railway history daddy bless him so just thought we would let you know as it's your video of the line to welbeck colliery that inspired my boy to want to see it before it's too late so glad we managed to walk the track and even climb up the signals thank you again for giving my boy the inspiration to go on adventures keep up the good work from joff and my boy kean
Fabulous explore. Filming amazing. Music well chosen. Drone work spectacular. What a beautiful walk and those bridges were something else. Thanks Ant . Well done. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Did I ever mention I have real thing about bridges. Been catching up on this and some of the boating vids. Fantastic camera work. Loved seeing lots of great places for photos and painting. I'm so looking forward to checking out the area around Nottingham in Nov/Dec. Great to see Aimee doing a stirling job at the tiller, as you were cruising in another vid. Beautiful scenery. Very envious, although the winter sky in Melbourne is clear and blue at the moment. Cheers and happy trails to you both. 😎🛤
Hi ant, watched this vid, excellent mate but I’m a little confused, saw you get to straws bridge then you were on the friar gate embankment which was amazing cause I’ve cycled by there not even knowing it,but then you found a small piece of track which they hadn’t lifted but where is it in relation to embankment, you seem to go thru a hole in hedge,I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it,if you could pinpoint it for me that would be great, keep up the excellent work mate 👍👍
Another super video. Those three arch bridges were lovely. I often wonder how you manage to make your remarks so interesting, Ant - so many railway videos are a bit spoilt by boring commentary - but never yours. Look forward to the next instalment! Thanks again. .
This was brilliant Ant! 👍🏻 The filming was superb from the drone shots to the bridges and all. Really good walk past some superb railway history of ours. 🙂
Hello Ant - greetings from Poland That was a fascinating and very interesting video. Full of information and historical facts. Very well made, great drone shots and superb commentary.
Great vid, I've not long since moved up here and have walked the last section to Straws bridge a few times now. It's great hearing about the history, I've noticed a few relics but hadn't realised their significance. The bridges are beautiful and the section between the access road and the Straws bridge is quite cathedral like with the high canopy of the trees at this time of year. Love that a lot of your work is 'local'.
This seems quite a pleasant place where you've gone through on this video, Ant. Those overbridges are real fine structures and have been kept in good condition. The piece of railway track in that wood is amazing still to be there to this day. A fine picture of the class 58 loco and that steamer with a freight, too. Many thanks for this production.
Ant, your drone work has really come along, I can't imagine going back to videos without drones. Ant, has anyone ever walked and documented the original track bed as first used of The Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Thanks, Great watch...... Back to work.
What a well maintained walkway. Your drone shatters the idea that you are miles from anywhere but gives a great perspective of your location - is all that open area where the iron works was? Have I seen that piece of track in the last shot before, a few years back??? Great vid as usual Ant👍🏻👍🏻
Morning Bob. I walked it in late 2019 I believe. It's since been refurbished and is occasionally used for scrap metal trains. That open area is around a quarter of what the site once was 😔
Another very interesting video Ant. Great to see places I knew years ago. If you do not have a copy, the book 'The Great Northern Railway in The East Midlands', by RCTS, shows most of the track plans of the area.
That was a really nice video, great to see the bridges in such good shape - well done Notts/Derbys. Just a couple of observations, @15:22 through the gap to the left of the sleepers, is that a piece of rail? Also @16:30 is that a piece of platform or a retaining wall? It was fantastic to see the old rail from your first video still on the track bed, as Dean Martin once sang - "Memories are made of this"!!!
Another great vid! Do you know if the stretch of water around 3:10 to 3:20 in the vid is part of the old Nutbrook canal, part of which is used by Stanton fishing club near the main road (Ilkeston rd/Quarry hill rd) it looks as though it is in the right general line. Thanks.
Although this area has been reclaimed by nature, there doesn't appear to be a sign of birdlife. Everywhere looks rather devoid of any wildlife in fact.
Thanks so much Ant, fantastic walk. Just love those bridges, the stonework is beautiful. The countryside is lovely too. Thanks for taking me along, please stay safe and take care
Thanks very much Linda 🙂🙂
Another great video Ant. So inspirational as well as I now know I should get out and see some of the old lines of Lincs

Thanks very much Simon I shall definitely return 🙂

Wow Peter that must be one of the shortest colliery lifespans 😮
